June, eerrr July!

Where did the month go!?

In an effort to keep up with my family and remain connected with you, my plan for the next month is to post daily - but just a picture or two.

I'm finding it impossible to sit at the computer (desktop - ugh!) with all the daily activity around here, not to mention my lack of sewing time for this space.

So my month of pictures may be quilting, sewing, kids, cooking, baking or cleaning - somebody's got to do it! I hope you enjoy a wider glance in our life through photographs!

Any questions? Let me know - I'll do my best to answer them all :)

Our weekend in pictures

I hope you had a good weekend! We had been promising the kids a little pool, but had to wait for it to warm up enough. They had a great time in and out of the pool - getting the water nice and dirty! Oh well :)

Owen loves being in the water, I have to drag him out - even if the water is cold and making him shiver.

Lots of fun family time.

A little gardening - finally ready to start eating some of it!

A little binding, with my feet in the kiddie pool - of course!

That's about it for our weekend! What did you do?

Also, do have a question for me? Any sort of question, I'm willing to share - just ask!

Blessings to you ~

New Handbag

Yesterday I cut out two bags :) It was a good day - and that was before noon! After bedtime I managed to put one together, the other is waiting patiently for a bit more free time.

Do you recognize it? It is the same bag I've been playing with for a while now - this version had been taunting me last week, when I had no time to sit down. Do you like this version!?

I had to add the touch of pink! The other bag I cut had lots of extra fabric, so I added the pink/gray panel. This bag has no quilting and I used fusible fleece for the first time - Love it! I need to go browsing for closures - any suggestions?

Have a great weekend ~
Amy

SewConnected - June

Sarah of house of krom, or krommama on flickr, surprised us this month by not sending fabrics! Instead she asked that we use our scraps to make a wonky log cabin house. Super fun and something new for me :)

Wonky House for Sarah

This is my busy, wonky log cabin house! I found some old scraps I haven't seen for a while - it was a lot of fun!

Finally I have sat with my machine, after a whole week without my creative therapy - I was overdue! I have a placemat swap to get to next!

See you soon ~

Recent Happenings

It would seem I've been absent more than present here lately. . . and my creative time has been out the window, but I have good reason!

Saturday morning we packed the kids up and
went camping! Our plan was to be gone two nights, but the second night had some serious storms in the forecast. Joe and I ended up taking down the tent in the midst of a crazy hail storm - thankfully the kids were safe inside the truck :) We opted for more sleep at home, instead of the lightening/thunder night that was predicted.

We had a great time over in Dinosaur! The kids love to collect rocks, and poke sticks in holes to see who lives there. And explore the petroglyphs and scramble the mountain side.

Being in a National Monument means that all the rocks stay where they were found :) I've washed pockets full of rocks before -- oops!

We celebrated this little man's birthday yesterday.

My baby is now two, and no longer a baby! That makes me happy and sad all in the same moment. I'm excited to see what the coming year brings for Owen. More talking, less grunting, potty training, no more diapers in the house, more sleep at night, less wake ups for snuggle time.

He thoroughly enjoyed the attention from everyone!

A duplo train set has been the highlight so far :)
And a scooter like all his sister's have for outside time.
Of course the fun is in taking it all apart too!

Did I tell you he's trying to tell "knock, knock" jokes!? The girls like to take turns telling daddy a knock, knock joke at dinner time - no matter how odd, they always get a laugh from daddy and sisters -- Owen decided to join in last week, and get his own laugh! He loves making his sisters laugh :) So far all he says is "knock, knock" but knowing that he can, when he so chooses, make the sounds, is great! Although, I must say a little frustrating for me - I want him to talk all the time, not just for a laugh! Baby steps :)

Yesterday felt like Saturday, and today feels like Monday - I have lots of wet laundry to do :( I don't think I've been this behind in laundry for a while, but I should get though most of it today. I'm crossing my fingers that I can get a project cut out too - wish me luck!

I hope that you are well and blessed today! I am thankful for our warm, dry home and the clear weather on the horizon.

My Girlie Girls :)

I got my top done and haven't touched my machine since! My mind is full of projects, but the sun has finally been shining. Today was a full day with the kiddos, running errands and gardening/weeding! It's crazy how fast those things grow :/

Ella and I spent some time playing Scrabble while Owen napped and the little girls entertained themselves - Ella's a great speller, and Scrabble is a great way to reinforce it!
Sophia ended up watching us, she seemed to want to chat while I was trying to come up with a word :)
Today Ella and Emmalie got haircuts! Both have been ready for a while, but I wanted to make sure they were certain, before heading to the salon. At 5 and 9 these things change quickly :)

Aren't they cute!?
I'm hoping that Em's hair will thicken up a bit more, but I am so glad that she still has some curls.
Ella has been tired of all the knots and constant brushing/pony tales, thankfully she decided to not cut bangs! They are so much to keep up with :)

I thought Sophia would want a haircut too but when it was mentioned, it was as if she had been told she was going to get shots! She had fun watching the girls be transformed with their haircuts, and her cut will have to wait until she's ready.

Owen's always around - causing more and more trouble it seems! His birthday is over the weekend - summer solstice - entering the terrible two's right on schedule too :)
---------------------------------

I've been looking at the Kona Cottons over here for my quilt backing. I'm determined to get it done and not avoid it, which would be easy since it's so big! Hopefully I can gather my supplies, and courage, over the next week :)

Blessings ~

Quilt Along Top

Hi all! I managed to get my quilt top together! I love all the colors and beautiful prints. It is SO big!

My HUGE top :)

My helpers were holding it down while the wind was blowing :) I am still working out the batting and backing, really just crossing my fingers! Part of the quilt-along this week is a long-arm quilting giveaway :)

I'm super behind in my reader - I can't seem to keep up with it since school's been out! Maybe I'll do that tomorrow instead of sewing . . . maybe :)

Blessings~

Happy Day!

Earlier this week I made use of the gift certificate my sister gave me for my birthday. Isn't she sweet!?
I've been watching Wildwood since Market, loving the cool colors and graphic design. The bag I have loved for a while and so I thought I would do a crisp, modern bag - because you know I need another! :) No chance for a giveaway with this one!

--------------------------------------

The yard sale this morning was decent, slight chance of rain for the morning, but I did manage to unload $60 worth of stuff. Pretty good considering I don't hang on to much for long - no space to collect here :) The last hour has been full of big lightening and crazy winds - my girls are busy inside with a fort today. I even moved the couches around for better fort building!

I hope you are having a good weekend! I need to get back to my quilt-along quilt, hopefully I will have a top before the weekend is over :)

Quilt Along Progress

I have to admit it - I've been overwhelmed by the project I took on. A queen, almost king sized quilt! What was I thinking??

4-patch blocks

To have a few less pieces to deal with I made 4-patches of my blocks. Great idea! I had decisions to make for each block but not all at the same time, and I did it while watching tv in the evening after the kids went to bed :)

Before I sewed my groups together I laid a few out to get an idea of the final results -

progress

This is a quarter of my blocks, I'm now full of excitement and energy to get it together! For today I'm taking a little break though -- I took my machine in for servicing. Thankfully the little shop in town has a 24 hour turn around! Nothing is seriously wrong with it, but using it everyday it needs a little TLC to be happy.

So the afternoon weather has been crummy here. My girls love to play out while Owen naps - I highly encourage it too! This is them today trying to stay warm while the winds blew hard and the storm clouds rolled in.
Winter coats and shorts are a good look - don't you think!? I pulled them in to watch Tinkerbell with popcorn - all is well :)

I'm ready for it to be less stormy, but oh well. I've been working on gathering items from the house for a garage sale this weekend too - hopefully it stays dry enough for that!

Blessings to you -

Catching up

I feel like I've had lots to write all week, but no words to make a decent post. I am happily here with the kiddos, and a few runny noses . . . summer colds are the worst, don't you think?

I posted the music poll after getting a nice comment about how the music player has seemingly caused computer problems. Joe, had warned me that this day would come. . . I will remove it this coming week.

I understand more now after spending some time here, and realizing the time it takes for my blog to load - above all, I know that I want as many people welcome here as possible. And little extras take a good amount of time to load, and I would rather put that time into pictures loading. :)

Instead I will post a list of what is on the player now, and in the future update you with favorite songs or artists. Pandora has been a good source of new, to me, music! Music has always, always been a creative outlet for me, and not having it here will be a bit different - but for the best :)

----------------------------------------------
Moving on!

I have been sewing, mostly at night, trying to get my blocks in order for the next step in the quilt-along. I made it!

110 squared and ready

Yes - I'm still pressing my seams flat! I pressed the first few to one side and kept getting folds in the fabric, as I am very careful not to tug on the fabric. . . I'm quicker pressing open :)

And see that ruler in the background? 12.5" square, great size! Many of my SewConnected buddies have mentioned using this and smaller squares to get a nice square block in the end. I have only seen them for $30 (at my LQS), and rarely make it to JoAnn's with a 40% off coupon, (40mins, mountain pass) but a local discount store had it for $15! I jumped on it and it was perfect for cutting these squares, lining up the inch lines with my seams to make the blocks square and straight.

Now to get them all into a quilt top! It's going to be huge 100x110"! I have 110 blocks total - I realized as I was sewing the strip sets that I probably do not have enough floor space to baste it . . . I'll let you know what I figure out :)

I feel a bit more caught up with you all now! I hope that you are well and blessed today -
Amy

Summer Routine

Our first week without school, is good, but as always working into a new routine makes for a few hiccups in schedules and productivity! I haven't made as much progress as I had hoped for so far this week but some is better than none! I will get there :)

I'm all organized and ready to go when ever I have the chance to sit. On track to make 110 - 10.5" blocks - I altered Dana's design, just a bit :)
My organization

This is one of my favorites so far -
First blocks

Sophia had a great Birthday! Thanks for the well wishes - I think 4 may be one of her most challenging years yet, for me. She's been very contrary lately, wanting to do the opposite of what she should be doing, or saying. I'm praying it passes quickly. :) Nothing like testing mommy on every. single. little. thing!

Blessings to you today ~
Amy

PS - I put a little poll up on the right - I'm curious to know what everyone thinks :)

Your bag is gorgeous. I would love to carry it. I can definitely say bananas, old ones may make the top of my gross list. But I wouldn't carry them in your bag, promise! I would make my kids eat them all.

Liz has an etsy shop too - lots of fun goodies in there, you might just want to buy something to soothe yourself today :)

I'm off to frost birthday cake for my Sophia - she's 4 today!!
