Embroidery Color Wheel Details

Well I'm so flattered that you all love my color wheel! I've worked on it here and there over the course of a month - it could be done faster, but I was mulling over options and need time to make decisions. Enough of you asked about the dmc numbers so I thought I would share.

I put the star with the colors I felt were directly from the color wheel, and I'm thinking my next color wheel maybe with those 12. Oh, and there's 26 colors here, it would be easier to eliminate 2 and have a easy, even number to work into the circle. I found a dmc color chart, if you would like to see the colors. I know there's a few esty sellers letting you select colors of floss, be sure to change the search to "supplies" and they will pop right up for you.

My friend Cassie worked with some Cosmo threads recently, and loved them! They are over a dollar a skein, but Cassie seems to think it's worth the extra cost. She sent me a link for a shop selling them in the US - if you love stitching it may be worth trying. I had a few frustrating knots and nests in my thread while working the color wheel, Cassie loves how smooth the Cosmo threads are, and I'm going to give them a try at some point!

So who wants to stitch with me!? I have a 12" hoop and just enough white fabric to fill it :) We will keep it informal and fun - I don't have anything to giveaway, but maybe a button for your blog if you insist. I'll share my design thought process in the coming weeks.

Blessings ~
Amy

When I started quilting, I said to myself "Self, you are probably never going to get into things like embroidering or applique; those are just WAY too advanced for you."

With that in mind, I'm ignoring myself. I'd love to play along with this game :) I have pretty much zero idea where to start, except I'll need a hoop, some white fabric, and some pretty pretty thread. Oh, a needle might be handy, too!

I'm definitely playing, I love a stitchy project to do in the evenings. I've heard good things about the Cosmo threads too, but if you want to tame those DMC threads, buy some thread heaven, it is fabulous for smoothing threads and eliminating annoying knots.

Definitely count me in. I just took a silk ribbon embroidery intro class, and it reminded me how much I loved embroidery as a teenager. Great project for sitting on the couch and watching TV.

Hello again Amy, I was wondering if you or any of your blog readers know where to buy cosmo threads online. I'd really like to give them a try.
Thanks,
Kelly :-)

Oh, Amy. The pressure of endorsing a product. I don't know if I can take it. LOL! I hope you like Cosmo when you give it a try. It really is lovely.

So, what plans do you have for this color wheel when it is all done. Just wondering... (I hope you didn't already tell us and I just spaced it out. I am blonde sometimes. Well, I'm blonde all the time, but I only act like it some of the time.)

It sounds like fun and you can count me in. I've done embroidery in the past and this is a great opportunity to take it up again. :o)

I think this would be a fun project. I have quite the collection of DMC, Cosmo and Finca floss. I'm sure I can find enough colors to make a color wheel.

this really is cool! I don't think I can add another project to my chaotic mess, but I'm glad to see what your thought process is while working!

I just found you on flickr - wish I had time to do this! I'm knee deep in Christmas gift crafting, and I don't need to get distracted. Though this is a very lovely distraction...

Oooh, this is so lovely! I want to make one! Now I have 2 quilts on the go, plus a cushion, plus a pincushion, plus some baby booties, so there's absolutely no way I can fit in another project... but hey, I want to make this so I'm sure I can make time. So count me in!

My embroidery isn't too good though so I was thinking of using beads instead of floss. It would probably end up quite sparkly and I like sparkly things :)

I embroider every evening. It is amazing what you can accomplish. I have made all of the Baskets that Bunny Hill is doing, several Nancy Halverson Christmas Wall Hangings, a Hatched and Patched table runner for Christmas (it was really long) and now a purse front from Bareroots.

Your beautiful color wheel will be in the mix as soon as I can get the purse and pocket out of the way. I love your creativity and choice of colors.

Good luck with the floors.
