31 : : Boxy Tote Pattern & a Giveaway!

I can't believe I've finally pulled this pattern together! I am so excited to tell you that it is in my shop right now for sale! And, I went to get interfacing at my LQS earlier - they want to sell it too! And maybe make a class out of it! I wasn't even trying to market it there yet, I had the kids with me, and thought I would come back when I had my act together :)

The giveaway - I will giveaway two copies on Monday, August 3rd. Leave a comment, and let me know what fabrics you would like to make it up with. Also, I would love to have your help spreading the word, so grab my picture and post on your blog. Let me know you posted in another comment for an extra chance.

Thanks for your help and have a great weekend!

Amy

30 : : I'm Crocheting!

Just barely! So far I've learned dc, tr, and dtr - I figure abbreviated or not, they won't make sense unless you crochet too! The yarn was given to me by Amy - isn't it beautiful? Anyone have a good online resource for learning?

Thanks!

I've been slow to get some hints up for my partner - sorry! I love quilts in general. Happy quilts and sappy quilts, the color palette can be bold or soft, and the pattern traditional or modern. I hope that my group of favorites here helps to focus your plan! Thanks in advance - I know I will love your creation!!

Amy

I should say - the Doll Quilt Swap is no longer open for sign-ups this time around, but I encourage you to follow along if you are interested in the next round, and the quilts made with this group are some of the best! They have a blog up too - Doll Quilt Swap Blog.

27 : : Mondays are for weekend recovery!

At least, that's how today has been for me! I missed a day of posting - oh well :) Our weekend was full of friends and family, lots of driving, and not enough sleep! I don't have pictures of the weekend but this lavender has been growing beautifully and I wanted to share.

I've also been hanging out on flickr a lot with the zig-zag quilt-along - lots of cute quilts coming soon! And I got feedback from my testers about this bag - I'm hoping that I can finalize and publish the pattern this week.

I'm looking forward to July being over - I've missed writing here more!

Blessings to you~

22 : : Good, Clean Fun!

I saw on a blog somewhere last week, about a feature in Family Fun of these fun bubble creations!
Yesterday we put them to work inside :)

I have no mop, just a steamer for cleaning floors, our air has been out :( so I have put off cleaning the floor more than usual. The girls were enthusiastic to help, and even mop it up with cleaning towels when we were done. And yes - I was even sliding around in my shorts! Just beware to not slide too much if you try it - Ella has skinned knees today.

21 : : Our Mornings

Since school has been out, I've been working on my own morning routine. Which means going to bed prior to midnight :) Now that everyone sleeps through the night - I have no excuse! A new stroller arrived yesterday, I have been saving for it for a while, and now regular walks are part of our morning routine!

Hope your day is going well ~

July blocks for SewConnected and A Notion or Two! If you are interested in getting involved in a bee - there is a flickr group designated for swap blocks and an ongoing discussion for those wanting to get involved.

Yes, Henny - it's different in that it is just a block, and made from the fabric a group member provides. :)

16 : : A Finish!

I have to tell you up front - I'm going to stray from my picture format for the month. I just have to gush about this quilt, and the journey it has taken me on!

Old Red Barn - Quilt-Along
The making/piecing of the top, was straightforward and a breeze!
Old Red Barn - Quilt-Along
More of the challenge came when it was time to select thread for quilting, decide on fabrics for the back, and mentally preparing myself to quilt it!
Old Red Barn - Quilt-Along
I knew that it needed curves and movement in the quilting - it was crying out for it. But I was determined to have a solid plan before setting to quilt it. In the end it was Cheryl's comment that made everything click for me!
"Take one of the floral patterns from your fabric and use as an inspirational repeat. You could do it in each block, or as a linear pattern."
Make it a flower! In my sketch book I had already been doodling ideas and practicing the movement - when I read her comment I was put into action - thanks again Cheryl.

It's really hard to capture the entire quilt and highlight the quilting - but here's a few details :
Old Red Barn - Quilt-Along
In the center, I traced five circles, big circles, and then filled them in with circles - Like the center of a flower. I would do some quilting, pull it out and lay it on the floor again, see where I needed more and go do it! It was in those moments of looking at it I felt like an artist, like more than a simple quilter! I knew that I needed to do this quilting, but was more assured of why as I was actually doing it :)
Old Red Barn - Quilt-Along
Then I taped (painter's tape) the diagonals working out from the center. There's a few rows quilted, that had all four sides included -- lots of repositioning!!
Old Red Barn - Quilt-Along
The loops just kept on going! But working on the diagonal was great - so much less bulk to deal with - at times :) Having the areas taped off helped me to have a clear idea of where I was going and how big to make my loops as I went. Also, I've mentioned recently the perpendicular sewing machine, while quilting - I remembered where I learned that! My friend Andrea has actually posted a video of herself quilting this way, go check her out.
Old Red Barn - Quilt-Along
All the loops are random heights and widths - some have little ones inside the big ones. To me it is very organic and flowery feeling without being over the top. Just what I was hoping for!
Old Red Barn - Quilt-Along
And it is right at home in our room!
Old Red Barn - Quilt-Along
Some of these pictures were taken outside in the heat of the day - thus the colors vary a bit. I was too excited to wait for the evening sun - Oh well :)

I'm sure that I have more to tell, but I have managed to stay up to late getting this posted :) I'm hoping to catch up in my reader a bit before the zig-zagging gets underway! See you soon~
Amy

ETA: It is 100x110" and 110 blocks, I used spray baste for the first time and loved it! More freedom to move while quilting - but it needed 2 cans, I only bought 1 :) Next time!

15 : : Studio Blog Tour

What you don't see it!? Well it's lunch time :) My "studio" is put away!
My sewing machine is tucked away on the floor.

My fabrics safely stowed away from grubby fingers :)
That chest holds fabrics, batting, interfacing, rulers, the cutting mat is behind it, and my tools/notion box is on top! That is my computer chair on the right too :)
When nap time rolls around, and the girls go out to play - I pull everything back out again! The iron sits atop the yellow shelf and the board to the right of it. There's speakers on the shelf too - always some tunes on while quilting :)

Kristina wants to know--
-- What do you use your space for?
My space is the kitchen table, so it has many uses! We eat 3-5 meals a day here (4 kids), play games, and color. When all that is cleaned up I pull out my machine and ironing board to get my creative therapy in!

-- What is your favorite thing about your space?
My favorite thing is the large table space I have to work with, and the availability to my kids. They are always close by and I can see/hear what is going on :)

-- What struggles do you have with your space?
My biggest struggle is that it is not my own space, I have to be patient, and I have to clean up really well - every time. Someday ~ sigh~

-- When do you use your space?
I use my space whenever I can squeak out a few minutes! I tend to make small goals for myself that way I'm sure to accomplish something. Naptime, bedtime, occasionally morning cartoons :)

-- Share an organizational tip that works for you.
Everything is put away, but not necessarily organized, but having the container with the handle for all my notions/tools has been a huge help. I know eventually I will find the needle I need in there :)

Click the button and play along! Thanks for hosting Kristina!

Quilted!!

4 1/2 spools of thread
9 bobbins
3 quilting needles
6 hours of quilting time (roughly)

It's done!! I am so excited, and proud to have this accomplishment under my belt. I will probably never do it again - but I am happy to have quilted this "monster quilt" myself :) I'll show you more of the quilting once the binding is on and it has been washed - I can't wait!!

Blessings~
