<br />
Our second block is variation of a 4-patch, we are adding hourglass blocks to it. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TEPGjmW6YRI/AAAAAAAADxU/iFOvq7BYf3M/s1600/DSC_0058-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="367" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TEPGjmW6YRI/AAAAAAAADxU/iFOvq7BYf3M/s400/DSC_0058-1.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Here's what you need:<br />
2 - 6 1/2" squares in one fabric<br />
1 - 7 1/2" squares in two different fabrics - these will be your hourglass blocks.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Take your 7 1/2" squares back to the cutting mat, and cut on the diagonal.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TEO95fWMWsI/AAAAAAAADvU/p-ns4SH9Kg8/s1600/DSC_0070.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="323" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TEO95fWMWsI/AAAAAAAADvU/p-ns4SH9Kg8/s400/DSC_0070.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Then cut into quarter-triangles, I've found a second ruler, with the 45 degree angle to help mark the center, and keep things straight. Just move it away once, you are all lined up, and cut.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAJFujueCswz5M_n1PdCI4epwRG4Ojk0awrCdLW-DYOLbQ6pG3PeDgKR2qxoi_lmmNAFfiCq_8-1UAcjywgHWUL06RCdLEn-JHm31eyotLZrrNF9vjNTcr_x-o47ZLwnKsbAfFeIe40z0/s1600/DSC_0071.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="231" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAJFujueCswz5M_n1PdCI4epwRG4Ojk0awrCdLW-DYOLbQ6pG3PeDgKR2qxoi_lmmNAFfiCq_8-1UAcjywgHWUL06RCdLEn-JHm31eyotLZrrNF9vjNTcr_x-o47ZLwnKsbAfFeIe40z0/s400/DSC_0071.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Repeat with your second 7 1/2" square.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV6k-EAYO1D3ape63R1B3ppMBIpODP9cb8KuzTQL-M-a8h-t5BshmE8FUrqs7gxXq6OoMrZgfqqSoNf5W1XsxQHyvR7JurjsGmpEcxW8fPjgf1B7Pb7nAedRZkyAXxfzhs4I_rm5CyQFI/s1600/DSC_0072.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="207" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV6k-EAYO1D3ape63R1B3ppMBIpODP9cb8KuzTQL-M-a8h-t5BshmE8FUrqs7gxXq6OoMrZgfqqSoNf5W1XsxQHyvR7JurjsGmpEcxW8fPjgf1B7Pb7nAedRZkyAXxfzhs4I_rm5CyQFI/s400/DSC_0072.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
**There is another way to make an hourglass block - we will get to that method later...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJ1T02A2FLbpWmB_gTDKrBC0UIXPjKLfjgZOixf5ag51tt9wdYPFA2oomSUoLu3heHTQh6yVbyffBrVTGgrevVB29GacZfe4h9m6ATtml1hyphenhyphenOx3EGx6FJ0SXzGz9pG0NqJJXm1GtRUi68/s1600/DSC_0048.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="382" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJ1T02A2FLbpWmB_gTDKrBC0UIXPjKLfjgZOixf5ag51tt9wdYPFA2oomSUoLu3heHTQh6yVbyffBrVTGgrevVB29GacZfe4h9m6ATtml1hyphenhyphenOx3EGx6FJ0SXzGz9pG0NqJJXm1GtRUi68/s400/DSC_0048.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Layout your pieces, as you would like to sew it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TEPEKyk6-2I/AAAAAAAADwo/_A7HhfYMWIE/s1600/DSC_0049.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="326" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TEPEKyk6-2I/AAAAAAAADwo/_A7HhfYMWIE/s400/DSC_0049.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Lay the quarter triangles over one another.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_gfHxrQDuX5NqvL60bOvuGi6_DkQ7tQiYMW4Q-kaOtUOG5v_ixJkGYR-zvZIE2ubW4Bo_JyJWig0NHCLigbdNK6J6ZBL9CPePwKuDQZe-YDy1YwTSURyGR48iDHw2cAKNfyndhvFOjzU/s1600/DSC_0050.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="260" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_gfHxrQDuX5NqvL60bOvuGi6_DkQ7tQiYMW4Q-kaOtUOG5v_ixJkGYR-zvZIE2ubW4Bo_JyJWig0NHCLigbdNK6J6ZBL9CPePwKuDQZe-YDy1YwTSURyGR48iDHw2cAKNfyndhvFOjzU/s400/DSC_0050.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Pin, and sew from the center, out. We will be trimming the outside of the block later, so having the center match up is more important. Press your seams open.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeZD3AvfCcPMZLijk98p46jMyr41vn9wHwHD2bnWwQC5XHx1OVKPYsen5CFgumJ5J42uFujw5tb84j2Lyf66bHISEz87a0fmjk1tTggXhSBP9YGUQ61dQy9PHrw141uuBTyvL6cUUWNSU/s1600/DSC_0051.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="330" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeZD3AvfCcPMZLijk98p46jMyr41vn9wHwHD2bnWwQC5XHx1OVKPYsen5CFgumJ5J42uFujw5tb84j2Lyf66bHISEz87a0fmjk1tTggXhSBP9YGUQ61dQy9PHrw141uuBTyvL6cUUWNSU/s400/DSC_0051.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Now turn the triangle units over on one another, match center seams, pin and sew. Press open again.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

How are you doing with these? Little more tricky, but fun - I love the variety we are getting :) My blog will be down this week for a few hours of maintenance and so I made a <a href="http://parkcitygirl.googlegroups.com/web/Week%205.pdf?gsc=Nu9u_QsAAAD99P4RcpANccyeCScdQ4Y1">pdf </a>of the instructions, the file is pretty big, but it's all there!</div>

I'm feeling rather accomplished - I spent yesterday basting and quilting my <a href="http://www.amyscreativeside.com/2010/07/sewing-with-linen-new-quilt-top.html">quilt</a>! Of course, it was between errands and meals, and afternoon pool time. The <i>how </i>question (How do you do it all!?) comes up now and then in the comments - I stay up late, and get up early! I've never been one to need 8-9 hours of sleep, 6-7 is good, 5 if I'm in a pinch :) Anyway, let me get a binding on it, wash it, and finish up the pattern and I'll show it to you next week! Do you have a favorite size quilt to make? I put a poll up, to gauge your quilt commitment level - let me know! <br />
-----<br />
Our featured quilter today is <a href="http://quiltycat-quiltycat.blogspot.com/">Nichi (Nicoletta)</a> she's from Italy and I love her use of color. I hope you enjoy getting to know <a href="http://quiltycat-quiltycat.blogspot.com/">Nichi </a>better and seeing her quilts -<br />

</div>
<br />
I took my first quilting class in 2003 (after some years in collecting books and magazines) and I fell in love with it immediately…I was ready to fall in love!<br />
<br />

</div>
<br />
I have always love colors above all and quilting gives me the possibility to play with better as every other kind of crafting. I like all the quilting techniques, traditional, appliqué and improvisational that I feel as the new way of expression but that, as the modern art, can't set aside from the perfect knowledge of the basic rules and the tradition.<br />

</div>
<br />
My favourite quilting tip is to use all the fabric I choose for a project to finish that project ( for the border or the binding or the backing) so as to have the least scraps possible.<br />

The inspiration for my Festival quilts came from the red fabrics in my stash …I would find a way to use them all together and the big hexagon pattern seemed perfect.<br />

I took a day off, just didn't have anything worth saying! :) Thanks so much for all your<a href="http://www.amyscreativeside.com/2010/07/sewing-with-linen-new-quilt-top.html"> great ideas </a>for naming my <a href="http://www.amyscreativeside.com/2010/07/sewing-with-linen-new-quilt-top.html">quilt</a>. I think I have an idea decided on, but want to give it a few more days to make sure there's not a genius idea still out there :)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMId9tLWozG2F_TNWGUU0Nrg6rzzzk2m8KdoR8dD52M6__yoWfnwhP8slQqUfFVEdMlYBJ7uEuDknefgzasESY-21laFg_0qfZK5ksNEaMULvaCBtCvingcvew5mDmoGjJ1Rw1yrVE514/s1600/DSC_0048-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="133" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMId9tLWozG2F_TNWGUU0Nrg6rzzzk2m8KdoR8dD52M6__yoWfnwhP8slQqUfFVEdMlYBJ7uEuDknefgzasESY-21laFg_0qfZK5ksNEaMULvaCBtCvingcvew5mDmoGjJ1Rw1yrVE514/s400/DSC_0048-1.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I really enjoyed being <a href="http://www.amyscreativeside.com/2010/06/started.html">challenged </a>a couple weeks ago, and have decided to issue you a challenge! Once a month, we will have a Challenge Week. You decide on one thing, <i>one thing</i>, you want to challenge yourself with for the week, tell me about it in the comments, and one week later I'll have a linky so we can check out each other's projects! I might have to work out a prize too - give you a little more incentive to get you motivated. <br />
<br />
<b>Next Tuesday, July 20th will be the beginning. Then on the 27th we will share our projects!</b><br />
<br />
I really want to emphasize the <i>one thing</i> aspect - so often I get (and I know I'm not alone) overwhelmed with how many things I need to do and don't start ANY, so this will be a jumpstart! Cut out a quilt, piece a top, or finally finish that binding, whatever you have on your list that you just can't seem to get started, or finished as it may be!<br />
<br />
I know that when I did a survey a while back lots of you expressed needing help getting motivated to finish things, and last week when I asked <a href="http://www.amyscreativeside.com/2010/07/another-project.html">how many projects you have in the works</a>, many of you were a bit shocked to have actually counted them. So hopefully this is just what you need!<br />
<br />
What do you think? are you in?<br />
Hope so! I need a challenge :)<br />

I'm excited to share a new quilt top with you. I sewed blocks into the wee hours of the weekend, and yesterday started sewing the top up with my morning coffee. I really wanted to see this quilt top come together!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMId9tLWozG2F_TNWGUU0Nrg6rzzzk2m8KdoR8dD52M6__yoWfnwhP8slQqUfFVEdMlYBJ7uEuDknefgzasESY-21laFg_0qfZK5ksNEaMULvaCBtCvingcvew5mDmoGjJ1Rw1yrVE514/s1600/DSC_0048-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="132" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMId9tLWozG2F_TNWGUU0Nrg6rzzzk2m8KdoR8dD52M6__yoWfnwhP8slQqUfFVEdMlYBJ7uEuDknefgzasESY-21laFg_0qfZK5ksNEaMULvaCBtCvingcvew5mDmoGjJ1Rw1yrVE514/s400/DSC_0048-1.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Sewing with linen....it's kinda squirrelly and needs lots of pins. As the weave is larger than the cottons we typically use, it has a tendency to not hold it's shape.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDvNxcX8S7I/AAAAAAAADuU/V4iFp5tzzuw/s1600/DSC_0026-4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="237" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDvNxcX8S7I/AAAAAAAADuU/V4iFp5tzzuw/s400/DSC_0026-4.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
I carefully pressed and blocked each piece as I added it to the block, to keep things as square as possible. This quilt top is not perfect, cutting was a challenge as well since it was 60" wide and my longest ruler is 24". But the <i>fluidity </i>that it adds, and the <i>heft </i>are really nice. It is slightly heavier than my quilting cottons - but I like it a lot!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjz5tNmVvM-gkEzTBfIK1qkrr3ac9KdvHwCivM5D5T-4Ed06TCmOXQ6W5u7OYwtuyQEq6AtZmt25sXFSNObJ6wJ9meziUtzC1X-KXYOSIK2klOcjNsaAATxoVsYUsENb5o4ZZx5Oq6C6hw/s1600/DSC_0029-3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjz5tNmVvM-gkEzTBfIK1qkrr3ac9KdvHwCivM5D5T-4Ed06TCmOXQ6W5u7OYwtuyQEq6AtZmt25sXFSNObJ6wJ9meziUtzC1X-KXYOSIK2klOcjNsaAATxoVsYUsENb5o4ZZx5Oq6C6hw/s400/DSC_0029-3.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
I know that there are a few <a href="http://cvquiltworks.danemcoweb.com/shop/category/fabric/basics/essex-cotton-linen-blend-1/">linens </a>being marketed to quilters, but I've not had a chance to work with these yet. I'd love to, and compare - eventually :) I love how the colors pop in these pictures!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

My quilt measures 60x72 inches and I have a pattern in the works! <i> I need a little help naming this quilt...how about, if I pick the name that you suggest, you win a copy of the pattern when it's ready!?</i><br />
<i><br /></i><br />
Here's my kiddos- they were enjoying an evening swim, their cool down after dinner :) They keep me on my toes!<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<br />
I hope you like my quilt as much as I do!<br />

Originally I had planned to put all the HST blocks at the end and work up to them...but then I decided we should slowly work through them, so I have one more for you this week. I hope you aren't cringing - they really do get easier with practice, and that's just what we are doing! Perfection is good and all, but don't forget to <i>enjoy the process</i>, and learn as you go. And remember - I have been sewing for 20+ years, I've had a bit of practice with straight seams and working with my machine daily the last (almost) 2 years, it all makes a difference. <i>Please don't get frustrated, or down on yourself.</i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Our first block this week is a traditional favorite - Log Cabin. You can make these so many different ways, I have one side in white and the other scrappy - feel free to play with color placement!</div>

Here's what you need:<br />
From your solid - cut 2 - 2" strips and cross cut into:<br />
1 - 2 x 11"<br />
1 - 2 x 9 1/2"<br />
1 - 2 x 8"<br />

1 - 2 x 5"<br />
1 - 2 x 3 1/2"<br />
From a variety of prints -<br />
1 - 3 1/2" square - fun opportunity to fussy cut a favorite part of your fabric<br />
1 - 2 x 5" and 1 - 2 x 6 1/2"<br />
1 - 2 x 8" and 1 - 2 x 9 1/2"<br />

For this block we work from the center out, one piece at at time, lay out your pieces like I did, and prepare to sew and press, and sew and press!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDpDSTz2fWI/AAAAAAAADro/VgNZ7rm2Z94/s1600/DSC_0024.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="276" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDpDSTz2fWI/AAAAAAAADro/VgNZ7rm2Z94/s400/DSC_0024.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Lay the 3 1/2" length of white over your center square, pin and sew.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDpDdu4Wg8I/AAAAAAAADrs/vjKZFTnmGrA/s1600/DSC_0026.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDpDdu4Wg8I/AAAAAAAADrs/vjKZFTnmGrA/s400/DSC_0026.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Press your seam open, and working counter clockwise continue around the center block, adding the 5" length next. Pin and sew.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEfje6Fu_FeUCXaSkrIsMGHjQhQOZANvql-MTx82X9gP6sib2UZ3gqFsCqkNa50M4niGCGuE6yIQqA6GV1XQOobH_Omzk3Nd32dy-CfL9UO2tYhdLdeZvYdaqLalgj8NRct9aPGmR-e4k/s1600/DSC_0027.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="312" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEfje6Fu_FeUCXaSkrIsMGHjQhQOZANvql-MTx82X9gP6sib2UZ3gqFsCqkNa50M4niGCGuE6yIQqA6GV1XQOobH_Omzk3Nd32dy-CfL9UO2tYhdLdeZvYdaqLalgj8NRct9aPGmR-e4k/s400/DSC_0027.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
How's yours looking? Now we start adding prints, still working counter clockwise, lay the 5" print length over. Pin and sew. Are you thinking I'm super anal? always pinning..? I find that if I don't pin, the fabrics have give and will shift under the needle without my knowing. When adding these strips, I pin to keep the seam below in place, and two ends, just so that they match up nicely. When we get to the longer strips I add another to keep things in line.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDpEA2-IfvI/AAAAAAAADr0/2lolncTeyE4/s1600/DSC_0028.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDpEA2-IfvI/AAAAAAAADr0/2lolncTeyE4/s400/DSC_0028.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Continuing on, add the 6 1/2" print length.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCr-6ZQpTicG5lH8xh11M57XQRIcinnRzdLVzGlcA6p52_-k-uECS0A_pIvDRbolkYtMI4jpFLeaI9Ll4k4I9Ozdhqx30Xae60tr8RvemeGvNF_SxrtdhDdk_xvAU_aGpkHM9YNscZnDA/s1600/DSC_0029.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCr-6ZQpTicG5lH8xh11M57XQRIcinnRzdLVzGlcA6p52_-k-uECS0A_pIvDRbolkYtMI4jpFLeaI9Ll4k4I9Ozdhqx30Xae60tr8RvemeGvNF_SxrtdhDdk_xvAU_aGpkHM9YNscZnDA/s400/DSC_0029.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Back to the white strips, add the 6 1/2" length. Pin, sew and press open.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitbgDucGjlbpU0CsPS6EtNWirgaAKkBwu0dXbdIMAhBQpr1kTFm3ZR7mUrxjcxYHoMiLVNlYsiqy82sb4Kda4E0kKQJtiTdOcCVjhyGF8f-jsC9j8rz7gbkvThYFvhwhKblRfX0bwtZJQ/s1600/DSC_0030.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitbgDucGjlbpU0CsPS6EtNWirgaAKkBwu0dXbdIMAhBQpr1kTFm3ZR7mUrxjcxYHoMiLVNlYsiqy82sb4Kda4E0kKQJtiTdOcCVjhyGF8f-jsC9j8rz7gbkvThYFvhwhKblRfX0bwtZJQ/s400/DSC_0030.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Still in counter clockwise fashion, add the 8" length.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQFd2FzUqwxy2wZu4unJQY9Zi6FIaBCBBh2fnnrsPo6KDNdH162zJyjgkZHGePfmE5tMlPyeStNVppqJM928xzzFCpwBJpHll0_fDz_fVBceQ4yumH5ISwA6A0WNpXUi_MLI2BiquA8Vs/s1600/DSC_0031.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQFd2FzUqwxy2wZu4unJQY9Zi6FIaBCBBh2fnnrsPo6KDNdH162zJyjgkZHGePfmE5tMlPyeStNVppqJM928xzzFCpwBJpHll0_fDz_fVBceQ4yumH5ISwA6A0WNpXUi_MLI2BiquA8Vs/s400/DSC_0031.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Now add the print 8" length. Pin, sew and press open.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw8nONGLvZvg0H_gGeMR_YDvcXhW9Vt63B17fdTvsrg_bNLZ8gU4-TVs8hO_0l9EyopM-BJKQmJ73RzmHQVbRZIAX3XlCu5G9i4fb3E1AUi0psHPxjcY0Chqjzsrpx7lzNwJP_7rSnKl0/s1600/DSC_0032.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw8nONGLvZvg0H_gGeMR_YDvcXhW9Vt63B17fdTvsrg_bNLZ8gU4-TVs8hO_0l9EyopM-BJKQmJ73RzmHQVbRZIAX3XlCu5G9i4fb3E1AUi0psHPxjcY0Chqjzsrpx7lzNwJP_7rSnKl0/s400/DSC_0032.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Now the white, 9 1/2" length.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5_EG9DnT0o1N1i0ZqL7nNNAkMgl30xf7XfxcutcAqWGyuBkGetKu1INVz_hWqZoMuCwrJ7HNXsAdXvI8rrmvqgKsQqnb6VHL0WEZxlgsJro9l6CQsEghBeA8Lc6Y22lHg-uTx0b9ohAA/s1600/DSC_0033.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="375" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5_EG9DnT0o1N1i0ZqL7nNNAkMgl30xf7XfxcutcAqWGyuBkGetKu1INVz_hWqZoMuCwrJ7HNXsAdXvI8rrmvqgKsQqnb6VHL0WEZxlgsJro9l6CQsEghBeA8Lc6Y22lHg-uTx0b9ohAA/s400/DSC_0033.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
The final white length is 11". Pin, sew and press open.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDpE4r-OHhI/AAAAAAAADsM/a-ChCwpOI78/s1600/DSC_0034.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="346" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDpE4r-OHhI/AAAAAAAADsM/a-ChCwpOI78/s400/DSC_0034.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Next add the print 11" length.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcCXzCNBULbSQNaSH4AyYexRqeI-71IRJ1K33GQ6sZsAnHiLuiXxPZutADIchiN6bfyg8MDJau_yDHbSa5YayEFCREhjyVuCRNE8soHSAKOCdlUcUJ06BJ_HEs6K8mYRp4hFKmi2KL4Fw/s1600/DSC_0035.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="315" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcCXzCNBULbSQNaSH4AyYexRqeI-71IRJ1K33GQ6sZsAnHiLuiXxPZutADIchiN6bfyg8MDJau_yDHbSa5YayEFCREhjyVuCRNE8soHSAKOCdlUcUJ06BJ_HEs6K8mYRp4hFKmi2KL4Fw/s400/DSC_0035.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Add your final print length, at 12 1/2", to finish the block!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've told you how much I like starch, but I don't think I told you that when I've finished a block I like to set it with a little starch. When complete, AND ONLY THEN, (you don't want to shrink things before you finish) spray a bit on your seam allowances on the back to set. And carefully press. The seams lay nice and flat and I don't have to worry about things getting wonky as I wait to quilt. Not necessary - but something I find helpful :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuwnmVLj62Dy-NpBNee1acKuxs9_WEza_urgVKuW8k9LJnAgpWvNZaz5-rA9eC-EM1y5iL6c85S7HVEINAWUwf90TCnIT_huvn15xjb6ees1RAJ_mn3zQ8TXwjQ6x0_fpfJNQd4Wbqo3Y/s1600/DSC_0038.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="391" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuwnmVLj62Dy-NpBNee1acKuxs9_WEza_urgVKuW8k9LJnAgpWvNZaz5-rA9eC-EM1y5iL6c85S7HVEINAWUwf90TCnIT_huvn15xjb6ees1RAJ_mn3zQ8TXwjQ6x0_fpfJNQd4Wbqo3Y/s400/DSC_0038.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Our second block for this week is a mosaic block, my software named it Mosaic, No.5...so uninspired! Let me know if you have a good name for it - I think a quilt full of these would be really fun.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDpF6V0NlyI/AAAAAAAADsg/3zmUtkSr9iA/s1600/DSC_0064.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="387" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDpF6V0NlyI/AAAAAAAADsg/3zmUtkSr9iA/s400/DSC_0064.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Here's what you need:<br />
From your solid - 8 - 4" squares.<br />
From one print - 2 - 4" squares.<br />
From a second print - 6 - 4 " squares.<br />
If you aren't using a solid, look to the contrast of your fabrics - the difference of light and dark in your fabrics.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIpy_OA_gDpaaxVshN8dBoicyR5nBd5efgIX7B9Zq4e-0Pl7MFFrkQg3HQeyvgJzl18jBskLSwYzE4DMWgoM6vqoVhpxbWlFJ74ZwueH-FiEE3-spiHwlFsNwIzI_yf6Vy8ho1Vhh9cG8/s1600/DSC_0039.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="310" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIpy_OA_gDpaaxVshN8dBoicyR5nBd5efgIX7B9Zq4e-0Pl7MFFrkQg3HQeyvgJzl18jBskLSwYzE4DMWgoM6vqoVhpxbWlFJ74ZwueH-FiEE3-spiHwlFsNwIzI_yf6Vy8ho1Vhh9cG8/s400/DSC_0039.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
On the wrong side of your white or light, mark the diagonal. If you are having trouble, consider also drawing 1/4" away from your center diagonal, for a sewing line.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBX9xPzZd3t1fUtsG5WR0E3UaoX5NkxTQsqEm7mdfoV0WaANrHNLFDwBEG1cE46Yg0DlrNLmkjZSesDhWYPAcToeaQkZv-994oMUtjtalUuwk3YlCh0V9Fck2NXqjzQ2LLrMYLDXBoA0I/s1600/DSC_0041.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBX9xPzZd3t1fUtsG5WR0E3UaoX5NkxTQsqEm7mdfoV0WaANrHNLFDwBEG1cE46Yg0DlrNLmkjZSesDhWYPAcToeaQkZv-994oMUtjtalUuwk3YlCh0V9Fck2NXqjzQ2LLrMYLDXBoA0I/s400/DSC_0041.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Pin a white square to each of your printed squares.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I thought I would share where I start things, and how I use my hands to guide the pieces. These things take time to find what works best for you. Having a friend/mom over your shoulder as you learn, reminding you of where your hands are is handy, even if trying in the moment :)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDpGhmr9WGI/AAAAAAAADsw/YpRRk9sGtcw/s1600/DSC_0044.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDpGhmr9WGI/AAAAAAAADsw/YpRRk9sGtcw/s400/DSC_0044.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
I like to start with my needle down with these blocks so that I can get it as close to the needle as possible before stepping on the gas.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDpGt3HP6PI/AAAAAAAADs0/Mu572AwwOA8/s1600/DSC_0045.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDpGt3HP6PI/AAAAAAAADs0/Mu572AwwOA8/s400/DSC_0045.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
I hold my thread tight, and gently hold the square firmly in the direction you want it to go.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_FK83201Ghobjx1R8HU5RYDjR-C8_cNrUnUUe9fKhgUVIplb1H5Pk0EQHbGEZdvSjfCqIIZHMRsQEq6_HnEof3Bwr-Fp919xxKsjiYM0vX4L3TpOO7VygM2Lt6ws5UQX0SRc_mlmYsDY/s1600/DSC_0046.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_FK83201Ghobjx1R8HU5RYDjR-C8_cNrUnUUe9fKhgUVIplb1H5Pk0EQHbGEZdvSjfCqIIZHMRsQEq6_HnEof3Bwr-Fp919xxKsjiYM0vX4L3TpOO7VygM2Lt6ws5UQX0SRc_mlmYsDY/s400/DSC_0046.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
I keep my hand in front of the needle, guiding the square.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzEaWg4Q-8YDxCbv0WlxXQLq0JNxyXxbkdcRiKL7nUVtOGPAaR_lX-IAPLe2zlLYlXJo5hw3-wtKNXs2yRwJWpTT69kU000-LfiCFe10dtnpeX4LEqDXhrGoqIKJJlG-Nz00jrwifB9r0/s1600/DSC_0047.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzEaWg4Q-8YDxCbv0WlxXQLq0JNxyXxbkdcRiKL7nUVtOGPAaR_lX-IAPLe2zlLYlXJo5hw3-wtKNXs2yRwJWpTT69kU000-LfiCFe10dtnpeX4LEqDXhrGoqIKJJlG-Nz00jrwifB9r0/s400/DSC_0047.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
And when I reach the other tip, use my finger tips to steady the square as it moves past the needle. Usually I use my other hand on the right side as well, to keep it straight. And I go SLOW when sewing these HST's always. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgG2Pbv4GxjNCflZLoHK-8QHw1ay5pbdRBDI-HGMxwn_wkg25hHBWQzMiJu27Gxpo6LnbeuIsFjqXMvxSe7v6X7nse5_N-M2OpkqAfehbEhePn9r8bGj7Mj-gpl3LFVIktKA2WPGEPv3ls/s1600/DSC_0049.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="177" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgG2Pbv4GxjNCflZLoHK-8QHw1ay5pbdRBDI-HGMxwn_wkg25hHBWQzMiJu27Gxpo6LnbeuIsFjqXMvxSe7v6X7nse5_N-M2OpkqAfehbEhePn9r8bGj7Mj-gpl3LFVIktKA2WPGEPv3ls/s400/DSC_0049.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
After sewing your seams on both sides, set with the iron, and cut on the diagonal.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBfXCkVwZFcsZbsoIho7k6aWt7Hr_9IroiTAdMao0aTVRfvZ4mwFC_HDOomLUs6ExVVdzkttyrmL4Fq5mZheY773nOdxTpCoYGCDrhlD3_S6SVBkrWRGfGhkSjPJ6OJYh16MyVN3eQIps/s1600/DSC_0050.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="256" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBfXCkVwZFcsZbsoIho7k6aWt7Hr_9IroiTAdMao0aTVRfvZ4mwFC_HDOomLUs6ExVVdzkttyrmL4Fq5mZheY773nOdxTpCoYGCDrhlD3_S6SVBkrWRGfGhkSjPJ6OJYh16MyVN3eQIps/s400/DSC_0050.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Press your seams open. And trim to 3 1/2", using the diagonal as your guide.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOuWe9oOyAQHdnA4XKWqRyycTgxmRIkDX2mMRGhyphenhyphen0xWTHZJOqfrp9wgqzPnKZSOFEdc3XSiubtKrpgKnRzG5h6LppEkdl51V0HXLc84ri8nyXU-jzWEsAotnRnPFZOQcoEzO2pX-cH6os/s1600/DSC_0051.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOuWe9oOyAQHdnA4XKWqRyycTgxmRIkDX2mMRGhyphenhyphen0xWTHZJOqfrp9wgqzPnKZSOFEdc3XSiubtKrpgKnRzG5h6LppEkdl51V0HXLc84ri8nyXU-jzWEsAotnRnPFZOQcoEzO2pX-cH6os/s400/DSC_0051.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Here's the little pile of scraps, after the fact -<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDpIRoYKkMI/AAAAAAAADtQ/137lTb-DMdw/s1600/DSC_0052.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="350" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDpIRoYKkMI/AAAAAAAADtQ/137lTb-DMdw/s400/DSC_0052.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Now we can lay out our block and sew the rows together! Actually there's a lot of options for sewing these together - I have a couple more in the weeks to come - it's fun to play with the triangles and see patterns form.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDpIrMqiDrI/AAAAAAAADtU/sx-lNg5hF5o/s1600/DSC_0053.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="375" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDpIrMqiDrI/AAAAAAAADtU/sx-lNg5hF5o/s400/DSC_0053.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Lay your blocks over, carefully match the diagonals, pin and sew.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDpI4c6PAfI/AAAAAAAADtY/DbB0G4ff1Ww/s1600/DSC_0055.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="283" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDpI4c6PAfI/AAAAAAAADtY/DbB0G4ff1Ww/s400/DSC_0055.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKcMLBAYcXnawXMd9Y-balUQsRWdtrkTs_haoyXltI198nI99qT511T2TLatrTVhs5JNRiy6hQyjW0RHQHMQml1Bwo4Eip3o9xiSUw8biMm9mF5mliM1xIqYA9LtNALl0PrToMACTK_no/s1600/DSC_0056.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="237" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKcMLBAYcXnawXMd9Y-balUQsRWdtrkTs_haoyXltI198nI99qT511T2TLatrTVhs5JNRiy6hQyjW0RHQHMQml1Bwo4Eip3o9xiSUw8biMm9mF5mliM1xIqYA9LtNALl0PrToMACTK_no/s400/DSC_0056.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Press your seams open, and lay out the block again to finish sewing the rows together.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQrQ1HuPhyphenhyphenzHhsjOUAJ9RPetfER1II8mbFda2E0s21jMGS5rEK7kuJYQDeq-9qJjY0DCVJ5YzWBcfU22hPJHd_1YHw5SXEKU6JOqegaQ5uRcpbwv-IOuyr-iBnGMf53s3rn6eD8ThOf9Y/s1600/DSC_0058.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="380" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQrQ1HuPhyphenhyphenzHhsjOUAJ9RPetfER1II8mbFda2E0s21jMGS5rEK7kuJYQDeq-9qJjY0DCVJ5YzWBcfU22hPJHd_1YHw5SXEKU6JOqegaQ5uRcpbwv-IOuyr-iBnGMf53s3rn6eD8ThOf9Y/s400/DSC_0058.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Carefully match seams up again and pin - notice that I flipped my top two rows over so that I have a running start to the bundle of seams. It sews easier and things line up better (in my experience).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw9Yg2q-_EmEvwhIm9j_WyFzVAV5PdgfAESJqm3_KfvuZP_cKxRfPF09yCMCwSw2T9jCInHwW01y5mHG4YCPcvsZ6OTiY6j2Wlf_l1nT80d1ospLdxjnnhZGdSzJqmuaVvb9lThb0qEIg/s1600/DSC_0059.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="296" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw9Yg2q-_EmEvwhIm9j_WyFzVAV5PdgfAESJqm3_KfvuZP_cKxRfPF09yCMCwSw2T9jCInHwW01y5mHG4YCPcvsZ6OTiY6j2Wlf_l1nT80d1ospLdxjnnhZGdSzJqmuaVvb9lThb0qEIg/s400/DSC_0059.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Sew and press seams open. Lay things out again.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPBhTTu6zpNvplYOPFBT76zZfh6VL6Wr-B95onco3JySGpsVqbXiWkXJZAMNlG9z7bHe3BfWge92xeyN9wWhDt8doqOM0qXX_cla0qXiRc7hcv6bQ-TuYrxPip1SHSJm6WOJdi3WpxdFw/s1600/DSC_0060.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPBhTTu6zpNvplYOPFBT76zZfh6VL6Wr-B95onco3JySGpsVqbXiWkXJZAMNlG9z7bHe3BfWge92xeyN9wWhDt8doqOM0qXX_cla0qXiRc7hcv6bQ-TuYrxPip1SHSJm6WOJdi3WpxdFw/s400/DSC_0060.JPG" width="390" /></a></div>
Match seams up, starting in the center, and working out, pinning carefully, the first row to the second, and the third to the fourth.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgueAuvZCGfgYNSdaEB38PUoitM43cNfX7unqYrItkmfoFTuj0IEaByQPYyYHoPDnLoXWoqIMdPZQONjdDb7UoPJQvXmqzhKb8GtqPc-XoRUPKFqe-j13eYTcNgFIMgWdy83vOZi3tidww/s1600/DSC_0061.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="220" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgueAuvZCGfgYNSdaEB38PUoitM43cNfX7unqYrItkmfoFTuj0IEaByQPYyYHoPDnLoXWoqIMdPZQONjdDb7UoPJQvXmqzhKb8GtqPc-XoRUPKFqe-j13eYTcNgFIMgWdy83vOZi3tidww/s400/DSC_0061.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Sew and press seams open. Then repeat the last step to complete the block!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDqCNaqzsII/AAAAAAAADt0/PmGt5yuBMN8/s1600/DSC_0063.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="378" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDqCNaqzsII/AAAAAAAADt0/PmGt5yuBMN8/s400/DSC_0063.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>

<div style="margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">
Hi there! Today our featured quilter is <a href="http://ivoryspring.wordpress.com/">Wendy of Ivory Spring</a> - I hope you enjoy getting to know <a href="http://ivoryspring.wordpress.com/">Wendy</a> a bit more --</div>
<div style="margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<i>1. When did you begin quilting?</i></div>
<div style="margin: 0px;">
I began quilting in October 2005 with no prior sewing experience or
whatsoever. My quilting mentor and friend Barbara had been talking to
me about giving quilting a try. Right about that time, my husband had
a new nephew - so, that was just the reason I needed to start my first
quilt. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.wendysheppard.net/wordpress/pierce2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="328" src="http://www.wendysheppard.net/wordpress/pierce2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<i>2. Why do you quilt?</i></div>
<div style="margin: 0px;">
I have always been fascinated by quilts, but never did venture into
the world of quilting because I didn't know how to sew. I love
Baltimore quilts, and want to actually reproduce one some day. I quilt
because I want to share in the experience of quilters in the past that
had produced the many treasured quilts.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.wendysheppard.net/wordpress/ivory6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="393" src="http://www.wendysheppard.net/wordpress/ivory6.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<i>3. What is your favorite quilting
tip?</i></div>
<div style="margin: 0px;">
Do not be intimidated by the difficulty level of a quilt pattern -
if you like it, jump right into it. You will learn a lot in the
process and build your confidence level. And the sense of
gratification is enormous when the project is completed. For my first
quilt, I chose a pieced and applique pattern. It was not exactly easy,
but I felt really good after I complete the project. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://ivoryspring.files.wordpress.com/2010/02/pieceful1b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="352" src="http://ivoryspring.files.wordpress.com/2010/02/pieceful1b.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<i>4. What was your inspiration for
your </i><a href="http://ivoryspring.wordpress.com/2010/05/21/marabella-in-the-quilter-july-2010/"><i>Quilt Festival</i></a><i> quilt?</i></div>
<div style="margin: 0px;">
I was inspired by my love of spring, and the fabrics I was given
with which to work. Tulips were the perfect subject for spring! I
wanted it to be a sweet quilt - so, adding the ribbon bows made the
vase of tulips look like they are meant to be gifted to someone to make
their day special.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://ivoryspring.files.wordpress.com/2010/05/marabella20.jpg?w=482&h=401" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="332" src="http://ivoryspring.files.wordpress.com/2010/05/marabella20.jpg?w=482&h=401" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<i>5. Do you sew other things?</i></div>
<div style="margin: 0px;">
Yes, I dabble in heirloom sewing for my 17 month old daughter. I
love to do hand smocking, and thus does a bit of heirloom garment
construction. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://ivoryspring.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/blue-smocking4.jpg?w=482&h=383" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="317" src="http://ivoryspring.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/blue-smocking4.jpg?w=482&h=383" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<i>6. Anything else you would like us
to know
about you?</i></div>
<br />
I am originally from Southeast Asia. I came to the States when I
was 19 to pursue a degree in Chemical Engineering. I ended up with two
degrees in Chemical Engineering. I worked for 7 years in a research
wind tunnel at the University of Arkansas. I am now a work-at-home
quilt designer and mom and wife. My work has been featured in The
Quilter, Quilter's World, UK's Popular Patchwork, Quiltmaker,
Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks, Quilting & Embroidery, Bernina's Through
the Needle, and Creative Machine Embroidery. I am very excited about
my upcoming features in Fons & Porter's Love of Quilting and Easy
Quilts! My passion is free-motion quilting on my home machine.
Wholecloth is the keyword to melt my heart!<br />
<br />
Wow! Your quilts are beautiful - thanks for sharing <a href="http://ivoryspring.wordpress.com/">Wendy</a>!<br />
Have a great weekend~<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
These are the colors I'm planning to use from the stack - I love the brights!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I originally purchased my FQ stack from <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/">Fat Quarter Shop</a>, but they aren't carrying the Cross Weave collection right now - I added the dark brown yardage from<a href="http://www.pinkchalkfabrics.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=37_198_332&zenid=ba23910ea14b4ff0b544a532495c6d86"> Pink Chalk Fabrics</a>. And the linen I had on hand! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
How many projects do you currently have in progress?</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Stay tuned - there's always more to come! :)</div>

We had a nice relaxed day yesterday to celebrate the 4th, and were up too late after watching the fireworks, but fun was had by all, and that's all that really matters! <div>
<br /></div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So now it's time to make our blocks for week three :) You have squares down now - right? This week I have two new techniques for you, basics that will become second nature, with practice. Ready?</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Our first block is called Two by Three and with it we will use strip piecing. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh24DYFH6GARMyv30p46Cu8WvWv35HRnlj75AC9LPGns-tdzlO48ubLGpukG3cXbstN7yqidjP4YJYftLPeVw_ykCKRblEpHCpV3BghXSf9bcutbPiYzQgEXldQbT7NY95bMy9i_vPHsO0/s1600/DSC_0039.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="293" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh24DYFH6GARMyv30p46Cu8WvWv35HRnlj75AC9LPGns-tdzlO48ubLGpukG3cXbstN7yqidjP4YJYftLPeVw_ykCKRblEpHCpV3BghXSf9bcutbPiYzQgEXldQbT7NY95bMy9i_vPHsO0/s400/DSC_0039.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div>
Here's what you need:</div>
<div>
From two fabrics cut a strip 2 1/2" x 18 1/2"</div>
<div>
From two more fabrics cut a strip 2 1/2" x 23 1/2"</div>
<div>
Mine are paired light and dark fabrics, or more saturated fabrics.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Four strips total:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4xV3j4MbvZNImBme3TlnM4cozC9DPC4n2Ye_uG-7XMW7btA9WPV9QUfnHi5rQO6k_yLmzRfePwyuLJJKp-OLqThKom4x_G0LNCnoIaaq1pd5C1zmWPSMMLZ3KUFIpTTvEMf1DDtIme8o/s1600/DSC_0022.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="177" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4xV3j4MbvZNImBme3TlnM4cozC9DPC4n2Ye_uG-7XMW7btA9WPV9QUfnHi5rQO6k_yLmzRfePwyuLJJKp-OLqThKom4x_G0LNCnoIaaq1pd5C1zmWPSMMLZ3KUFIpTTvEMf1DDtIme8o/s400/DSC_0022.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Now we are going to sew the strips together, pair up the same size strips and sew along one long edge.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDEaofXrFpI/AAAAAAAADmc/C5sRyv7MATY/s1600/DSC_0023.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="187" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDEaofXrFpI/AAAAAAAADmc/C5sRyv7MATY/s400/DSC_0023.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Carefully press your seams open, now we need to crosscut segments for our block. Trim one end, when cutting segments, I always use the seam as a guide instead of the top or bottom of the unit, then my units are always square. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5xN38fXgYUMP_8_efY_ZtE5pxdkG5YAzdSWJb5M87Z6V4qvtNbOlEcC7jXZRtLYi55t5fRG8OsG_szWGY55_zCTSyqdcb5elo04muM9q9K9yTNvnUa3A9EFDBAIDQTmPh_04S6sZC1B4/s1600/DSC_0024.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5xN38fXgYUMP_8_efY_ZtE5pxdkG5YAzdSWJb5M87Z6V4qvtNbOlEcC7jXZRtLYi55t5fRG8OsG_szWGY55_zCTSyqdcb5elo04muM9q9K9yTNvnUa3A9EFDBAIDQTmPh_04S6sZC1B4/s400/DSC_0024.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Turn to cut 5 - 4 1/2" units, from the longer set and 4 - 4 1/2" units from the shorter set.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDEa_FrfpYI/AAAAAAAADmk/paWkCM5dNEk/s1600/DSC_0025.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDEa_FrfpYI/AAAAAAAADmk/paWkCM5dNEk/s400/DSC_0025.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghHnERp1_o3Q7OUAHxFofqXQquzsc3JKl4kKYEG-YrMQ_wZpTSEImwJCjf5Zx56bqCSzszE_eparVWP08EzDbnSdqWay3cqAavbhYtClKFc2bO-9y1beJoKGcdnxuyc9LF1Mi3ylZ5OIw/s1600/DSC_0026.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghHnERp1_o3Q7OUAHxFofqXQquzsc3JKl4kKYEG-YrMQ_wZpTSEImwJCjf5Zx56bqCSzszE_eparVWP08EzDbnSdqWay3cqAavbhYtClKFc2bO-9y1beJoKGcdnxuyc9LF1Mi3ylZ5OIw/s400/DSC_0026.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
If when lining up your ruler with your seam, the edge isn't straight, move the ruler over a bit so that it the 4 1/2" line is met, then cut, turn your square and clean up the other side.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKN1jaraX-1_2ncIXWsGynag7w7cKrN6xfJG7KRQettxi-APTGbBgXUpGk4dgfnXzDSonLYJJgMnt3PBngMawP8HqteOUuz6tXzbC9S1YGNlWUT6mQ73aDAZgebd8mswh1GAleAthk7Gs/s1600/DSC_0027.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKN1jaraX-1_2ncIXWsGynag7w7cKrN6xfJG7KRQettxi-APTGbBgXUpGk4dgfnXzDSonLYJJgMnt3PBngMawP8HqteOUuz6tXzbC9S1YGNlWUT6mQ73aDAZgebd8mswh1GAleAthk7Gs/s400/DSC_0027.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Usually it's a tiny bit that you are trimming, but will make a difference in how things sew together...easy peasy!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKMdP4MjA3oSSdfH-wNZQoo8Kg5BOkwVynIvIu2VG4rzZvlVz2IsymVbc7ImhjLZfoG21qtfTWavXkwZlK5aLyu2BJeJddXZvmmOvTYWAn4OKg5hPONY-oR1gYA_us96R3MhioB0hpsY0/s1600/DSC_0028.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKMdP4MjA3oSSdfH-wNZQoo8Kg5BOkwVynIvIu2VG4rzZvlVz2IsymVbc7ImhjLZfoG21qtfTWavXkwZlK5aLyu2BJeJddXZvmmOvTYWAn4OKg5hPONY-oR1gYA_us96R3MhioB0hpsY0/s400/DSC_0028.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Now we are ready to sew the block, lay out your pieces, as shown.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDEbw_diW4I/AAAAAAAADm0/T3Hvkjfp8z8/s1600/DSC_0029.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="301" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDEbw_diW4I/AAAAAAAADm0/T3Hvkjfp8z8/s400/DSC_0029.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
First sew the rows together -<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzX9WRQGxPGKYyA2noCgLXBqXj5-VuZCnXdKxfvoBVxFxpHeWEC0uIy8qL2k5JIESSEdZx8PqJ-OdA_8TikoG6s1uDaIvKnOG54L5JNhEQ1lP-TiZQ2l6Z_dcxltfKmBE0E6QNHr_uL6w/s1600/DSC_0030.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="321" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzX9WRQGxPGKYyA2noCgLXBqXj5-VuZCnXdKxfvoBVxFxpHeWEC0uIy8qL2k5JIESSEdZx8PqJ-OdA_8TikoG6s1uDaIvKnOG54L5JNhEQ1lP-TiZQ2l6Z_dcxltfKmBE0E6QNHr_uL6w/s400/DSC_0030.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Press and add another square to finish the row -<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTC2FWYUf1ouQFkLxE0aKx73eHowmf-Zjd1rMECqDbyQ_x0untXDlWshflqmKABQqA1MYMWUuHSq59AYroqYFQOPUKKR5ye6pE8GV1Uq71wCuq2qCpzTsFtzBbep4xBGpVBaPWie_Dlx4/s1600/DSC_0032.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="301" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTC2FWYUf1ouQFkLxE0aKx73eHowmf-Zjd1rMECqDbyQ_x0untXDlWshflqmKABQqA1MYMWUuHSq59AYroqYFQOPUKKR5ye6pE8GV1Uq71wCuq2qCpzTsFtzBbep4xBGpVBaPWie_Dlx4/s400/DSC_0032.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDEcc5Wr5zI/AAAAAAAADnA/c26KVkDYyac/s1600/DSC_0033.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDEcc5Wr5zI/AAAAAAAADnA/c26KVkDYyac/s400/DSC_0033.JPG" width="326" /></a></div>
Press, then sew the rows together -<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEWeAysR_7YpRh89iqZMUR1L42OW2t_q2P4YUHG_i7RCbMK9kotGTS4OuAzA2WXkgPyiWLEhkbC0bXLTWYlOnfSulfraR-GaCNm1IGv7z46moE9g9ucq5qvL9ULeA3ttjNRscAIcONmXE/s1600/DSC_0035.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="278" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEWeAysR_7YpRh89iqZMUR1L42OW2t_q2P4YUHG_i7RCbMK9kotGTS4OuAzA2WXkgPyiWLEhkbC0bXLTWYlOnfSulfraR-GaCNm1IGv7z46moE9g9ucq5qvL9ULeA3ttjNRscAIcONmXE/s400/DSC_0035.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Starting at the top - pin and sew, then press seams open again.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDEc4KuYoRI/AAAAAAAADnI/yCZAzNuFDI8/s1600/DSC_0036.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="236" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDEc4KuYoRI/AAAAAAAADnI/yCZAzNuFDI8/s400/DSC_0036.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>

Then pin and sew the bottom row to the block.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgivFylaWifOkcEgFR_-aHxVdZKIDw_6ppZYTj930muJD9DtUjqOs3V9XSL7Ny-Gt4vbxvsQ5-YG3tgv9JvrigBGGs1PdZP-_6eQQh__OCrQ5V58eYgsZZslccSmZfhXVYmVnHPoDcpE_M/s1600/DSC_0038.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="306" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgivFylaWifOkcEgFR_-aHxVdZKIDw_6ppZYTj930muJD9DtUjqOs3V9XSL7Ny-Gt4vbxvsQ5-YG3tgv9JvrigBGGs1PdZP-_6eQQh__OCrQ5V58eYgsZZslccSmZfhXVYmVnHPoDcpE_M/s400/DSC_0038.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Press and your block is complete!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh24DYFH6GARMyv30p46Cu8WvWv35HRnlj75AC9LPGns-tdzlO48ubLGpukG3cXbstN7yqidjP4YJYftLPeVw_ykCKRblEpHCpV3BghXSf9bcutbPiYzQgEXldQbT7NY95bMy9i_vPHsO0/s1600/DSC_0039.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="293" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh24DYFH6GARMyv30p46Cu8WvWv35HRnlj75AC9LPGns-tdzlO48ubLGpukG3cXbstN7yqidjP4YJYftLPeVw_ykCKRblEpHCpV3BghXSf9bcutbPiYzQgEXldQbT7NY95bMy9i_vPHsO0/s400/DSC_0039.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Strip piecing saves time and helps your piecing to be more accurate, when you trim carefully, I know that you will use this technique more and more as you quilt!<br />
<br />
Block two is a Snowball Variation, and with it we will have a introduction to half square triangles (HST's).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoZHnF-ljwR3ztOXs6rju2gjh0pze-wRSR3GEvPr2AqCVxqEyb9xLkLxOtYICFRAHeA3Np6C_tU4bcFf2Kw9HXVX_EezPfZBXpfYGW_d58xjuh7MxZUuD6Eq1DrwBbkQe8SIHoc3FJdS0/s1600/DSC_0074.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="224" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoZHnF-ljwR3ztOXs6rju2gjh0pze-wRSR3GEvPr2AqCVxqEyb9xLkLxOtYICFRAHeA3Np6C_tU4bcFf2Kw9HXVX_EezPfZBXpfYGW_d58xjuh7MxZUuD6Eq1DrwBbkQe8SIHoc3FJdS0/s320/DSC_0074.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Here's what you need:<br />
From your print - 4 - 4 1/2" squares, and 2 - 5" squares<br />
From your solid - 1 - 4 1/2" square, and 2 - 5" squares<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIsQxA27GDTFGC74ocf344xZFFGrE3pParIitN4u2nQb2cpEOrj8FZyQwU4mDjmWweF1A0h-R1740iJ4-n3YKzbxwnRH1QhJrGdyjpItb-Ejs_bB9dsi94GkP0lc-IJThsrZaMy4fPIY0/s1600/DSC_0042.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIsQxA27GDTFGC74ocf344xZFFGrE3pParIitN4u2nQb2cpEOrj8FZyQwU4mDjmWweF1A0h-R1740iJ4-n3YKzbxwnRH1QhJrGdyjpItb-Ejs_bB9dsi94GkP0lc-IJThsrZaMy4fPIY0/s400/DSC_0042.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
We have the square part of the block, but we need to make our triangle pieces, just a little magic...<br />
<br />
On the wrong side of your solid 5" squares, mark the diagonal. Careful not to pull your fabric as you mark.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoF7D-pIA4ZCTjKDWKjdQXqUY5g5sPdtS_jDwxm-4qLMob-g7xYCQjUUdIMFJwxelRrokmxglw2FteSE_V1PfxjI9Rb8VP74Fgtk98ynEERcPeL2Bk9sk5cPwsUL3KgxViYmP8vs972QU/s1600/DSC_0043.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoF7D-pIA4ZCTjKDWKjdQXqUY5g5sPdtS_jDwxm-4qLMob-g7xYCQjUUdIMFJwxelRrokmxglw2FteSE_V1PfxjI9Rb8VP74Fgtk98ynEERcPeL2Bk9sk5cPwsUL3KgxViYmP8vs972QU/s400/DSC_0043.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Any marking tool will work, but this what I recently upgraded to...I was in a pinch and my LQS just had these for marking -<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpaHkG_IDoHT7KMTpeVhJaqLo1OaZGqR3AE5EWWD1qvlWHt3fXd035RRh9aG5NEXJ_pYhXsA8RaPnT1wKpD3qBwcAfbq7BCMqQAzaMydjAmtnyhs34rZmqSAAaHYnE3a-Wzxr9Iwh36hM/s1600/DSC_0044.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpaHkG_IDoHT7KMTpeVhJaqLo1OaZGqR3AE5EWWD1qvlWHt3fXd035RRh9aG5NEXJ_pYhXsA8RaPnT1wKpD3qBwcAfbq7BCMqQAzaMydjAmtnyhs34rZmqSAAaHYnE3a-Wzxr9Iwh36hM/s400/DSC_0044.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Now add your print, right sides together.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhS5rscI5dU38g3vfN8xBErQGMeK1OPReZPun4vv1yZ3EzpJldOOLb4d-hyO-f3E6Q-zefgBv07YQ4ZVdRU51ptrq9_EC8aRT3fkvEvekhqpeYOGmR8Y2xVCNqTCmJTCK0yeT7ZH2-qTxo/s1600/DSC_0046.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="317" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhS5rscI5dU38g3vfN8xBErQGMeK1OPReZPun4vv1yZ3EzpJldOOLb4d-hyO-f3E6Q-zefgBv07YQ4ZVdRU51ptrq9_EC8aRT3fkvEvekhqpeYOGmR8Y2xVCNqTCmJTCK0yeT7ZH2-qTxo/s400/DSC_0046.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Add a few pins to keep things in place - the diagonal is call the bias, which has a lot of stretch. If you are tugging and pulling too much things will start getting wobbly.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgX16nlMBFzGvjIR9awM06izdVZ9JcEZ7q1VQBjpOTeYLKaeUiJHWur0B7vnmeJFd2hb3BO0dTH2a12rUHSFO4aGLdATCNuG04wIPPAIBE0B5CiRPiYAPKUg7beuCU31nuIQQTWvII-mfg/s1600/DSC_0048.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="306" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgX16nlMBFzGvjIR9awM06izdVZ9JcEZ7q1VQBjpOTeYLKaeUiJHWur0B7vnmeJFd2hb3BO0dTH2a12rUHSFO4aGLdATCNuG04wIPPAIBE0B5CiRPiYAPKUg7beuCU31nuIQQTWvII-mfg/s400/DSC_0048.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
At the sewing machine, sew 1/4" away from the line you drew.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDE0YLmoxNI/AAAAAAAADn0/5qx8G22dSfs/s1600/DSC_0051.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="316" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDE0YLmoxNI/AAAAAAAADn0/5qx8G22dSfs/s400/DSC_0051.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Turn the squares around and sew on the other side of the drawn line.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-AEMp8TRjXr2IERUOCiXDONOGBMuQxQexxHmOAN_em7wi0EHMjcyL2EzCLoyrDPve1QhAR5ccQyyJdBe8wD1H3-U8nhT-NtRjeWvgeavATfLmHMO4OctZSa6kqvTxNWufbE3taZRGRSc/s1600/DSC_0052.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="290" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-AEMp8TRjXr2IERUOCiXDONOGBMuQxQexxHmOAN_em7wi0EHMjcyL2EzCLoyrDPve1QhAR5ccQyyJdBe8wD1H3-U8nhT-NtRjeWvgeavATfLmHMO4OctZSa6kqvTxNWufbE3taZRGRSc/s400/DSC_0052.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Here's mine post sewing -<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh28q3pGxeyHJ1N9tZ5YnwMsqndEp-dLJ_A8gSEeJTe2CwaJURK8eM_JXJPSL5JK4o7-Bkn8_FA6g6NX8xU6RcFjkxGKSFhyphenhyphenJa8Nl9QWD6CF1s3kTkwBoByBOiVaNVx4JdmaNl9tETHnUo/s1600/DSC_0053.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="205" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh28q3pGxeyHJ1N9tZ5YnwMsqndEp-dLJ_A8gSEeJTe2CwaJURK8eM_JXJPSL5JK4o7-Bkn8_FA6g6NX8xU6RcFjkxGKSFhyphenhyphenJa8Nl9QWD6CF1s3kTkwBoByBOiVaNVx4JdmaNl9tETHnUo/s400/DSC_0053.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Now back to the cutting mat to cut along the drawn line, using your ruler.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDE1qq-RHiI/AAAAAAAADoA/F8wt9ZRZRS0/s1600/DSC_0056.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="252" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDE1qq-RHiI/AAAAAAAADoA/F8wt9ZRZRS0/s400/DSC_0056.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Are you with me? <br />
You will have 4 total units.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDE12bzzUVI/AAAAAAAADoE/QjJnbFWnS1Q/s1600/DSC_0058.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="312" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDE12bzzUVI/AAAAAAAADoE/QjJnbFWnS1Q/s400/DSC_0058.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Now press your seams open, carefully, remember the bias...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_GgfLnfuZBKKa3U6sqKynMSbyw9c4uJaVKwGe2c8GDqJ6A90yhNWcGdQpSqvZ_C-evXcTVzqT1gaECqBXxDHFbi91M7VHAK4-rEDO9ahYP9s56YaaQ8f5X-i3j8rrIhKJWlLySlOgTmw/s1600/DSC_0059.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="340" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_GgfLnfuZBKKa3U6sqKynMSbyw9c4uJaVKwGe2c8GDqJ6A90yhNWcGdQpSqvZ_C-evXcTVzqT1gaECqBXxDHFbi91M7VHAK4-rEDO9ahYP9s56YaaQ8f5X-i3j8rrIhKJWlLySlOgTmw/s400/DSC_0059.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Now it's time to trim things up again, remember the rest of your squares were 4 1/2", so we want these to be the same. Use the 45 degree line on your ruler, to line up your seam. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDE2SpUTumI/AAAAAAAADoM/n-guPwc4jOE/s1600/DSC_0060.JPG" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="331" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDE2SpUTumI/AAAAAAAADoM/n-guPwc4jOE/s400/DSC_0060.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Notice the ruler is lined up to 4 1/2", or slightly over, trim then turn and trim the opposite in the same manner.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmVY2uHHzotKyz95hu1WkYxT8VzGo9aKDSf3o0UAbt8zg7JulVO-v_wSQ-Q8fBbUBioU1X9C6Z_7hh96ezQxrYKE0urOeKb4P19_3mzsjgO6DM7hsU6VsJQyCs5g6FEYY6mMR2JR6MdYQ/s1600/DSC_0062.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="290" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmVY2uHHzotKyz95hu1WkYxT8VzGo9aKDSf3o0UAbt8zg7JulVO-v_wSQ-Q8fBbUBioU1X9C6Z_7hh96ezQxrYKE0urOeKb4P19_3mzsjgO6DM7hsU6VsJQyCs5g6FEYY6mMR2JR6MdYQ/s400/DSC_0062.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmVY2uHHzotKyz95hu1WkYxT8VzGo9aKDSf3o0UAbt8zg7JulVO-v_wSQ-Q8fBbUBioU1X9C6Z_7hh96ezQxrYKE0urOeKb4P19_3mzsjgO6DM7hsU6VsJQyCs5g6FEYY6mMR2JR6MdYQ/s1600/DSC_0062.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a>Often you will find instructions for sewing HST's with a smaller measurement, and they won't require trimming...I prefer to cut things a tad bit bigger and trim to the size required. I find that I have less frustration this way.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKT6JIWNOa9kgsIHjCY7UyP4azfamC9SNAgnbVcP2t9hvzjbgDDyrnoNE3W1wV3fXDzrfIG23ciQx8lY3Nyse7lB2mQL1KxG2HU-R2isexHWJLgjdnExvvpgwagitnG65sHpUGn7zucbk/s1600/DSC_0064.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKT6JIWNOa9kgsIHjCY7UyP4azfamC9SNAgnbVcP2t9hvzjbgDDyrnoNE3W1wV3fXDzrfIG23ciQx8lY3Nyse7lB2mQL1KxG2HU-R2isexHWJLgjdnExvvpgwagitnG65sHpUGn7zucbk/s400/DSC_0064.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Trim all four so that your HST's look like this -<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrWBwh0uPM5FIGmVNHbe3lGfwCnlsjFCbuKJhRLyy1GIvyHKiGfez0NZYsbSuRcUObuQXl8w_syOqh7-d6Ih0IAPsB1EWKOVYiYkZQi3a0aEgU_uh7YkS7WlPC8CFD_bOlQZwpuOwt44E/s1600/DSC_0063.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="328" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrWBwh0uPM5FIGmVNHbe3lGfwCnlsjFCbuKJhRLyy1GIvyHKiGfez0NZYsbSuRcUObuQXl8w_syOqh7-d6Ih0IAPsB1EWKOVYiYkZQi3a0aEgU_uh7YkS7WlPC8CFD_bOlQZwpuOwt44E/s400/DSC_0063.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Now we are ready to sew our block! Layout your pieces like so-<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDHxPxQY7mI/AAAAAAAADoc/Qi6yRRPUKQQ/s1600/DSC_0066.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="292" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDHxPxQY7mI/AAAAAAAADoc/Qi6yRRPUKQQ/s400/DSC_0066.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
And sew the rows together. I've learned when working with HST's that it is easier to sew from the side that doesn't have the diagonal seam, toward that does have a diagonal seam - when possible. Does that make sense? If I start, where there's already a diagonal seam allowance it's harder to get the machine going - so I work up to it. This means I turn things around a bit, but don't have to pick stitches out.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghfYzQAI4-XZC0eoZBZiJDb73kLtMeiq_ZTtFBhSLiaJYdQ4v-Su-WAZjHZBE9YIOyQV-wKEx9seKS6lQRmkysXePlNTFPn-CqoNy_JBh4EO3sZkQadcI_bLUufqMSPZaB4ZVWl80y7Sk/s1600/DSC_0067.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="341" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghfYzQAI4-XZC0eoZBZiJDb73kLtMeiq_ZTtFBhSLiaJYdQ4v-Su-WAZjHZBE9YIOyQV-wKEx9seKS6lQRmkysXePlNTFPn-CqoNy_JBh4EO3sZkQadcI_bLUufqMSPZaB4ZVWl80y7Sk/s400/DSC_0067.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Left to right sew the rows together, pressings seams open.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDHx3Z8ShoI/AAAAAAAADok/jJXKYG3qFSo/s1600/DSC_0069.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="293" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TDHx3Z8ShoI/AAAAAAAADok/jJXKYG3qFSo/s400/DSC_0069.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Pin carefully, the bias is not yet fully encased and will still have the desire to get wonky on you. Just take your time :)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7YETwFR4a4v3bRmMrKc8ViIt2GnBDIQInUMqDld1nnyydVJq3SnsctZr4i0EZ3FCNBLWNL75DHDftblkrJpCjvbI0i4d907xEpvAjWPIl5Kk0LmMEBtBhIZCKiKvn-KvgDERpnR49M4A/s1600/DSC_0070.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7YETwFR4a4v3bRmMrKc8ViIt2GnBDIQInUMqDld1nnyydVJq3SnsctZr4i0EZ3FCNBLWNL75DHDftblkrJpCjvbI0i4d907xEpvAjWPIl5Kk0LmMEBtBhIZCKiKvn-KvgDERpnR49M4A/s400/DSC_0070.JPG" width="393" /></a></div>
Now sew the rows, from the top down. In this instance you will have to start with the diagonal seam, make sure you hold your threads tightly as you begin, and maybe use them to pull your block along the first couple of stitches.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4mZf_O1mrX9MC15sL9V30TczJP2NxcM6mLHCwDO9f-wjM-gzfgcfLrKS2w9R4BURGjIbhas_82e6yPe51-2sAOeNU-hhnOfbLzBJ-D8-NL517spVY3y3uEuBQW9-EB9PwaJMpXKtz1XE/s1600/DSC_0071.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="330" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4mZf_O1mrX9MC15sL9V30TczJP2NxcM6mLHCwDO9f-wjM-gzfgcfLrKS2w9R4BURGjIbhas_82e6yPe51-2sAOeNU-hhnOfbLzBJ-D8-NL517spVY3y3uEuBQW9-EB9PwaJMpXKtz1XE/s400/DSC_0071.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>

<div>
Today's featured quilter is <a href="http://cvquiltworks.blogspot.com/">Jackie</a>! Many of you probably know her from her sweet comments and helpful insights - I hope you enjoy getting to know her more and seeing her beautiful quilts here!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
-----</div>
<div>
Hello Everyone, my name is <a href="http://cvquiltworks.blogspot.com/">Jackie </a>and I am so glad to meet
you! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<i>1. When did you begin quilting?</i></div>
<div>
Technically, I first started quilting in my 6th grade Home
Economics class when I made a patchwork pillow. I actually still have
it too!! But I am not going to tell you how many years ago that was.
So, I guess I became serious about quilting about 17 years ago. That is
the short answer. There is a much longer one, but I won't bore you.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipxlvfZo7hVZE7Tg-Js5VFUF-1U8-9nlUTi8qEPqLfTW2qOsjfTSMkV_LfyMiMsnPl5grEwsI3yRwfUl7RhQbWds7v3S1_E9C6crju1swMvcpL4exFq-nq0iNYfmZ74QNS_Ym43BjlXlw/s1600/IMG_1116.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipxlvfZo7hVZE7Tg-Js5VFUF-1U8-9nlUTi8qEPqLfTW2qOsjfTSMkV_LfyMiMsnPl5grEwsI3yRwfUl7RhQbWds7v3S1_E9C6crju1swMvcpL4exFq-nq0iNYfmZ74QNS_Ym43BjlXlw/s400/IMG_1116.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<i>2.
Why do you quilt? </i></div>
<div>
That is an easy one, because I absolutely love it. I
love every aspect from picking fabrics, to designing, piecing,
quilting, binding, all of it. It is also a big stress reliever for me
too. Whenever I just need to "get away" this is my favorite outlet.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh32u7gekcnAJvNRSy3pL6aCpOgtJQ6M8fVfGG2az3nhyphenhypheniby6_Y4UAM4IozIJtWUqR-bTgkLPrSBPngzvUKOzZ51pp8pqJ2c1Zkb5cKjzfB2GLLBo9wUIGQWYAf_7x5i8kG88DDi4QPelU/s1600/IMG_1153.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="391" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh32u7gekcnAJvNRSy3pL6aCpOgtJQ6M8fVfGG2az3nhyphenhypheniby6_Y4UAM4IozIJtWUqR-bTgkLPrSBPngzvUKOzZ51pp8pqJ2c1Zkb5cKjzfB2GLLBo9wUIGQWYAf_7x5i8kG88DDi4QPelU/s400/IMG_1153.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<i>3. What is your favorite quilting tip?</i></div>
<div>
My favorite quilting tip is to never stop learning. Try new techniques
even if you think it may be too difficult. I take classes whenever I
can. Sometimes it may be just a quilt that I have wanted to do for a
long time and I already know the technique. But all teachers teach
differently and offer up their own tips. I think this is one of the
best things that you can walk away with, just one new thing you didn't
know before.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TC1m0ScTTcI/AAAAAAAADl0/zRkiIGVgu3A/s1600/IMG_1523.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TC1m0ScTTcI/AAAAAAAADl0/zRkiIGVgu3A/s400/IMG_1523.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<i>4. What was your inspiration for your <a href="http://cvquiltworks.blogspot.com/2010/05/blogger-quilt-festival-spring-2010.html">Quilt Festival quilt</a>?</i></div>
<div>
My inspiration for Quilt
Festival was my favorite quilt that I made in 2009. It is a paper
pieced pattern, which I love to do and it a special gift for my
mother's birthday later this year. The fabric colors were inspired by
my Mom's favorite candy Chocolate Raspberry Truffles. That is what I
decided to name the quilt.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TC1m4212vkI/AAAAAAAADl4/45o4nKqx7Fk/s1600/IMG_1128.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TC1m4212vkI/AAAAAAAADl4/45o4nKqx7Fk/s400/IMG_1128.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<i>5. Do you sew other things?</i></div>
<div>
On occasion, I
sew totes/bags. I also make pillowcases for charity. And of course, I
quilt my customers quilts on my long arm.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNArHuWaxlo-7HXAK0eV7YUDFiY5Pna5gxsION13ycW8pJdKQApb8WjDOqHAfYjvPCuexUoUfWH-CUqm_7GPVvV6Q7KL4IRNOgv6jszSPfWQpR-Xt7157hB8B3E0tOYJO8yUt4dvfIvcA/s1600/IMG_1131.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="328" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNArHuWaxlo-7HXAK0eV7YUDFiY5Pna5gxsION13ycW8pJdKQApb8WjDOqHAfYjvPCuexUoUfWH-CUqm_7GPVvV6Q7KL4IRNOgv6jszSPfWQpR-Xt7157hB8B3E0tOYJO8yUt4dvfIvcA/s400/IMG_1131.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<i>6. Anything else you would like us to know about you?</i></div>
<div>
Because quilting is such a passion of mine, I turned it into a
business in 2000 and it is called <a href="http://cvquiltworks.danemcoweb.com/shop/">Canton Village Quilt Works</a>. I have
been a Professional Long Arm quilter since then and own a Gammill
Statler Stitcher. The majority of my customers are local, but I have
quite a few that mail to me from all over the country. One of my
dreams, since I began quilting, was to open a quilt shop someday. Well,
timing has never been right and with the internet really taking off, it
has enabled me to recently open my own online quilt shop!! I opened
it's virtual doors in November of 2009 and am seeing a steady growth.
Choosing fabrics for the shop is always inspiring. Come check the shop
out here: <a href="http://www.cvquiltworks.com/shop">http://www.cvquiltworks.com/shop</a>. The shop recently underwent a facelift and I really love it, much more user friendly.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I
would love to hear from you!! Come visit me at my <a href="http://cvquiltworks.blogspot.com/">blog </a>(which is
constantly being updated with lots of creative quilty things) or my
<a href="http://www.cvquiltworks.com/">website</a>. Send me an e-mail, I would love it if you would say Hi!!
Thank you so much Amy for this wonderful opportunity to meet your
readers.</div>
<div>
-----</div>
<br />
Thanks so much for sharing Jackie! I love your quilts, and use of color in them - always striking and beautiful!<br />
<br />
Have a great weekend everyone,<br />

I have had scraps from my <a href="http://www.amyscreativeside.com/2010/04/roman-shades-winner.html">roman shade project</a> waiting for pillows, just no pillow forms. So I waited. The kids and I ran an errand for Joe first thing this morning and when finished went to Wal-mart since we were already out - I don't go often. <br />
<br />
I found 2 nice 18" pillow form on sale - and snatched them up! After finally getting home, and convincing the boy to at least rest in his bed... I took an hour to whip these up.<br />
<br />

Nothing fancy, but functional and cute! They have an envelope back so I can wash as needed too.<br />

I'll get to the other stuff here in a few minutes :)<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
What do you think?<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4079/4749834282_c1b46c6a1b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4079/4749834282_c1b46c6a1b.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I LOVE them, but I can't decide which center plate to use. I have time though, I next need to figure out what my background will be, and if I want to piece it.<br />
<br />
Hope you are having a productive day!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4143/4747136118_3fd74d84bf.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4143/4747136118_3fd74d84bf.jpg" /></a></div>
In between, "mom" responsibilities, I cut and sewed more than enough dresden plates! Not that I'm afraid of new york beauties, I just couldn't get excited for this project about them....these I'm excited about. <br />
<br />
So <a href="http://web.me.com/lsasseville/knitlindsay/Quilting_Blog/Quilting_Blog.html">Lindsay</a>...What have you been working on?<br />
<br />
I have a few things on the household to do list, hopefully I can resist this pile until later :)<br />

(I have all the fabric, I've been focused on the quilt-along so far) So today I'm going to start on the doll quilt :) I had been thinking new york beauties, but I'm chickening out - I'm going to make some dresden plated with these <a href="http://www.piecenquilt.com/category/32458408">Happy </a>fabrics!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4059/4707066742_937dcf8800.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4059/4707066742_937dcf8800.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Keep me accountable - okay!? I need to share some progress here really soon, so I can work on the rest of the list.<br />
Blessings,<br />

</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Happy Monday! I'm all set and ready to share the next two blocks, are you ready!? Just in case you are starting now, these will catch you up -</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<a href="http://www.amyscreativeside.com/2010/06/simple-sampler-quilt-along-details.html">Simple Sampler Quilt Along Details</a> (includes a pic of the quilt)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<a href="http://www.amyscreativeside.com/2010/06/simple-sampler-quilt-along-week-1.html">Simple Sampler Quilt Along -- Week 1</a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I have a flickr group here too! <a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/amyscreativeside/">Amy's Creative Side on Flickr</a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Also, if you have one block smaller than the other, most likely your seam allowance is a teeny bit big. If you were making the same block for an entire quilt it wouldn't matter too much, you could just trim them all to the same size. With this sampler, you could trim all to the same size when you find your smallest block after sewing them all. Or, if you would like to have more accurate seams check out my tutorial - <a href="http://www.amyscreativeside.com/2010/03/basics-tutorial-sewing-accurate-14.html">Sewing Accurate 1/4" Seams.</a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here's our first block for this week: Plus</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-S6er-3TSZukdzvxGNAGcD09km4iLa6N87XLS99j6vSfuq0n0lNCoHA4xtyub1FLI4tquUvFZdUgjCcEY_O97kaIEHt4gesTMptoHszvwQEhhhxCe5p1jn9sgrZSFHr33DANwb8sCoec/s1600/DSC_0039.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="328" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-S6er-3TSZukdzvxGNAGcD09km4iLa6N87XLS99j6vSfuq0n0lNCoHA4xtyub1FLI4tquUvFZdUgjCcEY_O97kaIEHt4gesTMptoHszvwQEhhhxCe5p1jn9sgrZSFHr33DANwb8sCoec/s400/DSC_0039.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here's what you need:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
From one fabric cut</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1 - 4 1/2" x 12 1/2" rectangle and 2 - 4 1/2" x 4 1/2" squares</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
From a second fabric cut</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
4 - 4 1/2" x 4 1/2" squares</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you need help with cutting go back and look at the<a href="http://www.amyscreativeside.com/2010/06/simple-sampler-quilt-along-week-1.html"> first set of instructions</a>, or ask in the comments.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then layout as shown here:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_Q5RC0XNaayUzs2NcJHWsVAeOk4kkh7X8EDlhHp9LRfJWWsd94P8_6waHVXcstsZwssokGimk7muWmVYJpdEAdHHN-mzAnLJRGm97EZJcwayMODp1st_Gb67DZI1JHTKgYAQacpsCeWg/s1600/DSC_0024.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="310" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_Q5RC0XNaayUzs2NcJHWsVAeOk4kkh7X8EDlhHp9LRfJWWsd94P8_6waHVXcstsZwssokGimk7muWmVYJpdEAdHHN-mzAnLJRGm97EZJcwayMODp1st_Gb67DZI1JHTKgYAQacpsCeWg/s400/DSC_0024.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
We are going to work on the sides first. Lay the top squares down over the center squares.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TCgMpOvUrxI/AAAAAAAADjU/ZckYpZdDCMg/s1600/DSC_0025.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="228" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TCgMpOvUrxI/AAAAAAAADjU/ZckYpZdDCMg/s400/DSC_0025.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Pin and sew your pieces together. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTXfsYWJNfgSvULXTgAwMiBpn5oRzLXUbG1anD54bTXWJvOum77hAjlkq8vM9riHz8-R1RT4WGgSOWr1iL0QPTq5GQLpooVSOtSoeNN7ULMx7kaSBeWlmgvtAS-sODrUKlYDuofHkNcXA/s1600/DSC_0026.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="273" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTXfsYWJNfgSvULXTgAwMiBpn5oRzLXUbG1anD54bTXWJvOum77hAjlkq8vM9riHz8-R1RT4WGgSOWr1iL0QPTq5GQLpooVSOtSoeNN7ULMx7kaSBeWlmgvtAS-sODrUKlYDuofHkNcXA/s400/DSC_0026.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Press your seams open, and set it back down with the other pieces.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTkK0mLpspkP-qlTDyCl6KFKi9gJsahD1TIqElniKiv7tmTUF_etEuDQfxR30VfO94StYWwD5aTR-sBgpO8Q-cCxumV3qo2KlFmTg5Ji4anEVpnpZo_X3Gb19YbHHsGd1H_Sy6hE0uMR0/s1600/DSC_0029.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="308" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTkK0mLpspkP-qlTDyCl6KFKi9gJsahD1TIqElniKiv7tmTUF_etEuDQfxR30VfO94StYWwD5aTR-sBgpO8Q-cCxumV3qo2KlFmTg5Ji4anEVpnpZo_X3Gb19YbHHsGd1H_Sy6hE0uMR0/s400/DSC_0029.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Lay your bottom pieces onto the center.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNnw9DE2BT-4CwzMj8IigwLe50R_rw_aMUHrOpVMKBbONKcs51V3OF-lm8_NGLFEMdazicXH8x59UbC5BHrnzlbikQjQWS-legIfEgXxzYVtiuWMDYcmE2ktkcZtu5N1FgoFrZFPgeEm4/s1600/DSC_0031.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="321" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNnw9DE2BT-4CwzMj8IigwLe50R_rw_aMUHrOpVMKBbONKcs51V3OF-lm8_NGLFEMdazicXH8x59UbC5BHrnzlbikQjQWS-legIfEgXxzYVtiuWMDYcmE2ktkcZtu5N1FgoFrZFPgeEm4/s400/DSC_0031.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Pin and sew together. Then press.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLYEuupcBOPdgyuTrhGg59EP8-nYa8Xu6xgiG6RswTX73ieIan-X7_wWHEkHOah1xbJ8cJIRukctWTZRgPNOT_lxksra8xuTNOOulEj0jQBv5e5j5B4s7TkmTIm3pcKYfBuQUUUmJD4XI/s1600/DSC_0032.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLYEuupcBOPdgyuTrhGg59EP8-nYa8Xu6xgiG6RswTX73ieIan-X7_wWHEkHOah1xbJ8cJIRukctWTZRgPNOT_lxksra8xuTNOOulEj0jQBv5e5j5B4s7TkmTIm3pcKYfBuQUUUmJD4XI/s400/DSC_0032.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Almost there! Pin and sew one side to the center. Since there aren't any seam to match up begin pinning at either edge and work your way in.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBLgMJUn5kVVYUlTeC0oLc1Kh40XfRu1midFrto0dh83MCOnuqJuOaDoTvsZS2xgmSTECpjNn52UpWlbLsxIgXQpMo0wsawkh7wxRR7jiIeePoR_w53Kc0PMGba-YgjHJk24rqZJCBXAU/s1600/DSC_0033.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="287" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBLgMJUn5kVVYUlTeC0oLc1Kh40XfRu1midFrto0dh83MCOnuqJuOaDoTvsZS2xgmSTECpjNn52UpWlbLsxIgXQpMo0wsawkh7wxRR7jiIeePoR_w53Kc0PMGba-YgjHJk24rqZJCBXAU/s400/DSC_0033.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
When I'm sewing a piece that has seams in it to one that doesn't, I like to keep the seams up so that I can keep track of them and make sure that they are flat going under the needle.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzgRaJfqL3rG7q1TKgVYqnXXpmHCYMVIkCQegmbWZMNuKAHZIuRDhHXfv0wenWF8w4WAyqgoZksazSCJxkiPQZmNgvsR0SiDwGtf0-RkMubSxRhZX_MyEQHmJ6mVDSXnbB-kkE80XvSIc/s1600/DSC_0034.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzgRaJfqL3rG7q1TKgVYqnXXpmHCYMVIkCQegmbWZMNuKAHZIuRDhHXfv0wenWF8w4WAyqgoZksazSCJxkiPQZmNgvsR0SiDwGtf0-RkMubSxRhZX_MyEQHmJ6mVDSXnbB-kkE80XvSIc/s400/DSC_0034.JPG" width="338" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgA-33T9w1nDpfkcofXu22M0NwekJuNE80QOUjcstUyXXrjnXhXMHb5Kw05sLcted94t22qzoArOoUFmQDvaI_UhAppTBa9Zzud9NakQsA6SI9nanidzYErWh7UBopxsbXq_HeCelqDD_0/s1600/DSC_0035.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgA-33T9w1nDpfkcofXu22M0NwekJuNE80QOUjcstUyXXrjnXhXMHb5Kw05sLcted94t22qzoArOoUFmQDvaI_UhAppTBa9Zzud9NakQsA6SI9nanidzYErWh7UBopxsbXq_HeCelqDD_0/s400/DSC_0035.JPG" width="266" /></a></div>

Not too bad - right? Next up is the Double Four Patch:<br />

It's a mixture of the two blocks that we made last week.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TCgO45jxehI/AAAAAAAADkA/gPMfll_k6tU/s1600/DSC_0041.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="305" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TCgO45jxehI/AAAAAAAADkA/gPMfll_k6tU/s400/DSC_0041.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Here's what you need:<br />
From one fabric -<br />
2 - 6 1/2" squares and 4 - 3 1/2" squares<br />
From a second fabric -<br />
4 - 3 1/2" squares<br />
Lay them out to make sure you have it in the right spots.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TCgPCy_NRpI/AAAAAAAADkE/1txa-t34rWE/s1600/DSC_0042.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="305" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TCgPCy_NRpI/AAAAAAAADkE/1txa-t34rWE/s400/DSC_0042.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Starting with the smaller pieces, lay them over each other as shown, and pin.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiy-5IRYcO6zqt66uyrVIB4ych96Fhi3SzpmpDrmusvr97gKfvch4AjV9A6FHWz5Mpnc4MIdqRWFR-ahWptlj4vnBxNFhyEIXcthit0tljYp5jOZFtD_Sjgjm6tNcB74k7gPXZO0DyYGBg/s1600/DSC_0043.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiy-5IRYcO6zqt66uyrVIB4ych96Fhi3SzpmpDrmusvr97gKfvch4AjV9A6FHWz5Mpnc4MIdqRWFR-ahWptlj4vnBxNFhyEIXcthit0tljYp5jOZFtD_Sjgjm6tNcB74k7gPXZO0DyYGBg/s400/DSC_0043.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Sew them together and press seams open.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TCgPW4MhAOI/AAAAAAAADkM/RL5vi26FTlk/s1600/DSC_0044.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="338" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TCgPW4MhAOI/AAAAAAAADkM/RL5vi26FTlk/s400/DSC_0044.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Lay one pair over the other, match seams, pin and sew.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TCgPgN6bQAI/AAAAAAAADkU/3xvHUtRsq4A/s1600/DSC_0045.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="286" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Ti1jKyD0Z3g/TCgPgN6bQAI/AAAAAAAADkU/3xvHUtRsq4A/s400/DSC_0045.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>

I've made lots of silly mistakes by sewing my pieces together differently than I had intended, which is why I always lay them out in between each step :)<br />

<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I’m not very good at free motion quilting, so when I want to quilt a curvy motif on a quilt, I draw it on freezer paper, iron it to the quilt top and quilt around the freezer paper. </span></div>

<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">When I was designing “A New View” there were several ideas going around in my head. I was interested in making an asymmetrical quilt and in the graphic possibilities of very simple blocks. I was fascinated with windows in buildings around town and I wanted to make a scrap quilt that was not multicolored. These ideas all merged together to become “A New View”. </span></div>

I had been having trouble with tension in my machine and the obvious lint build up was part of the problem. I spent a little bit more than I usually do, but I believe the payoff is huge! My machine has been happier!<br />
<br />
And so, here are a few of the finer things I have enjoyed using while sewing lately :)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdaMpm6CixunbSgY04xT4galp7HOsyk1AGOlAqClraXyZpWpmzykpJtzdBHpJ75vFtNAs09ycc6wzNwi8ivR2Cht9LuDjb8ij5IAKhkyEhqICTXJbX0smLku_mw5vT4AUzE7aV73nCbTs/s1600/DSC_0048-2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdaMpm6CixunbSgY04xT4galp7HOsyk1AGOlAqClraXyZpWpmzykpJtzdBHpJ75vFtNAs09ycc6wzNwi8ivR2Cht9LuDjb8ij5IAKhkyEhqICTXJbX0smLku_mw5vT4AUzE7aV73nCbTs/s400/DSC_0048-2.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<a href="http://www.superiorthreads.com/shop/category/thread/so-fine/description/">So Fine Thread</a> &<a href="http://www.superiorthreads.com/shop/category/thread/so-fine/description/">Topstitching Needles</a> by Superior Threads -- The needles seem to stay sharp longer than other brands.<br />
<a href="http://ihavea-notion.com/store/item_1211/Scissor-Embroidery-Fine-Tip-4-12in-Famore.htm">Famore Scissors</a> - the tip is tiny, helps to get threads from the tiniest spaces.<br />
<a href="http://ihavea-notion.com/store/item_616/Patchwork-Glasshead-Pin-Size-30--1-78in-100ct.htm">Patchwork Pins</a> - so tiny and fine, no visible holes left in the fabric after pinning.<br />
<a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/sewingontheedge">Selvage Pin Cushion</a> - it stays where I put it while pushing pins in as I sew.<br />
<br />
The next thing I need to find is a cone holder/stand. I love the thread so much I went with a cone, and it's much to big for my machine - so far I've just set it on the table, and let it feed up, but I don't think that will last too long.<br />
<br />
Do you have a favorite notion, or two?<br />
<br />
Blessings,<br />
Amy<br />
