My favorite gift ever from my husband of nearly 35 years was actually for Christmas, not Valentine's. (He is not much of a Valentine celebrator...hey, this is the man whose very first gift to me was an iron, for crying out loud!)

Anyway, it was a few years back and it consisted of several cards with sweet sayings and gifts.
1) "You are the light of my life" -- it was a mini flashlight that attached to my keyring.
2) "You bring color to my otherwise dull life" -- box of 64 crayons!
There were 3 or 4 more with bigger gifts attached, but I loved these 2 especially.

This was not a Valentine gift, but the best gift I ever got.
I lost my Mom last July to Breast Cancer. I was going through a very rough time, she was not only my Mom but my best friend, quilting buddy, and my biggest supporter.
My daughter who was 8 at the time came across a contest in the paper. It was an Amazing Mom Contest put on by Aqua Fresh.
She filled out the form and mailed it in without telling me. About 2 months later I got a call telling me I won the contest and was going to be treated to a day at a great spa in Scottsdale AZ.
I could not have needed it more, it was by far the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me.

The first Valentine's day that my husband and I were dating, he sent me a dozen long stemmed roses to my work. I was sooo surprised. Then, he presented me with another vase of flowers when he came to visit me that night after driving 3+ hours from school to my house. We are now married (11 yrs on the 20th) and have 3 wonderful children. Couldn't have asked for a better husband than I already have!

I'd been wanting a re-style of my wedding ring for a few years now. This year for Valentine's Day my husband took me shopping and we picked out a new setting for my diamond. I got it early and can't stop staring at it. The best part: it was his idea!

Deanna said...

The first Valentine's we were married my husband gave me a collection of Edgar Allen Poe. I felt so loved because he really knows me, not some imaginary, sterotype woman.

Such sweet stories! :) I don't have a particular favorite gift, but I do consider it a gift that my daughters are getting old enough to enjoy the holidays. We had a blast this weekend making glittery hearts to decorate the windows!

During one of the years we lived overseas he took me to Paris for the weekend. But mostly..flowers are the gift of choice it seems.
Love this giveaway!

My best valentine's gift actually came from my mom when I was 12; she took me to get contacts! Yeah, not at all romantic, but not having to wear glasses, oh heaven!

My husband sometimes brings home flowers...but I actually discourage it as they only last such a short while. I'd rather have a gift card to a nursery so I can get something to plant in the spring. But...I have to say that his card, candy, flowers, etc. are always appreciated! It's great to think of a man shopping to pick out gifts.

Gee Amy what a fantastic giveaway!! But I am still waiting to hear some more on your book... hint, hint. So my favorite gift was this past Dec for our 20th Anniversary. My hubby got me a ring with my birthstone and his, how sweet is that?

I received a beautiful bouquet of multi colored roses about a 2 weeks before Valentine's Day from my SO (significant other)who was out of town at the time. Anyhow a young co-worker (a guy!) sitting next to me was totally impressed and said I think that is the most beautiful bouquet of flowers I have ever seen, and I had to agree!

I suggested he send his new bride the same thing this year and he laughed. I wish but, those are not in our budget this year, perhaps one day! I went to the florist who had delivered them and asked for a blank card, I went back to work and at the end of the day wrapped the flowers back up and gave them to my co-worker with the empty card and told him to take them home to his wife...with one condition that he not tell her they were mine first. I told him I had already gotten the enjoyment of a surprise and it would be fun to surprise someone else. They were too beautiful not to pay them forward. He was silent and then smiled... cool, ok.

We don't really make a big deal of Valentines day around here. The kids make valentines to give to their classmates and sometimes I make heart-shaped cookies. When I was dating my husband I made him a big huge peanut-butter chocolate chip cookie. I still have that pan. Maybe I'll make one of those for my kids this year...

My husband and I had only been dating for three days when Valentine's Day rolled around. I was completely expecting the run-of-the mill flowers and chocolate. Instead, he had a print of one of his favorite painters framed for me. Nine years later, it's still hanging on our wall!

My favorite gift is from my husband. I think it may have been for my birthday though. When I lived in London I had a favorite mug I used for tea. I toted that mug all over Europe and it made it through several moves back in the US. One day the handle broke off my mug and I was so sad. I shelved it and moved on. My husband went to a paint your own pottery place and made me a brand new mug that looks strikingly like my London mug.

Not a big fan of the holiday, but I used to work at a school where every Valentine people could send roses to eachother: pupils and teachers. The money went to charity... I liked that rose very much!

One of the best and sweetest Valentine's gift I ever got was form both my husband and son. My husband wanted to get me some jewelery and let my son who was eight at the time pick out a very cute peridot ring(my birthstone. I treasure it because I can still see their faces when they gave to me.

szkornelia said...

We do not really celebrate Valentine's day. It is getting more and more popular as a result of TV and moves, but mostly for youngsters.
One of the nicest gift, however, I got for last Xmas for my boyfriend, a white gold tennis bracelet and some matching earrings.

EmileeHope said...

We normally keep Valentines day pretty small, but one of my favorite gifts hubby ever got me was an Elephant and beautiful red blanket for our bed. The reason why I loved it so much was because he really had to put some thought into that gift, and it shows he pays attention to what I like. (I collect elephants, and he knew I was wanting a new blanket for our bed, and paid attention to what I would really like!) I have redecorated since then, so I no longer use that blanket, but I was very proud of him for that special Valentines day gift!

Amy,
I've been following you for quite a while now - and the Fat Qtr Shop so it's great to see them sponsor you.

I think our best gift was me telling my husband he could buy a new motorcycle and him telling me he didn't want to be selfish and spend the money. We finally came to a agreement and bought it for our 16th Anniversary - WhooHoo we just went on our first ride together on our new bike an hour ago.
Oh I love bird fabric - and already had my eye on the Chirp fabric.

When I was a little girl I spied a beautiful broach in my Grandma's jewelry box, EVERYONE knew I fell in love with it....became a family joke, that when my Grandma passed on...I would get the broach....years went by and in 1998my grandma was dying from ovarian cancer. I had come over to her house for a visit...she left the room...next thing I knew she walked up to me, hand clasped around something...I knew what it was, we both started sobing...she told me she wanted me to have it, ironcially I was just looking at it yesterday, it is not worth any money but to me it is priceless and could never be replaced, just as my Grandma was :)

My most unusual Valentine's Day gift was from my hubby just after we had started dating. He worked away from home during the week, and must have appreciated the food that I would pack for him- because he took his father to the store and together they picked out a large set of cookware as a gift! He was so excited to give them to me, and I will always cherish that gift. Its the thought that counts and he was certainly thinking of me then as he does now!

Thanks so much for the giveaway Amy..love all the colors of the darling fabric!

The best gift from my husband definitely has to be a heart necklace that he bought me a few years back. My husband arranged to take me out for lunch on our anniversary. He left for work in the morning, and then waited in hiding for me to leave the house with our children to take them to my mother-in-law to mind while we went for lunch. He then went back into the house, packed suitcases of clothes, and when he came to pick me up from his mother's house to take me for lunch, he surprised me by driving up to the check-in entrance of the most gorgeous hotel in town, where he'd booked us into the honeymoon suite for the weekend. The valet guy opened the car door for me, asking "checking in Madam?" and I said, "Oh, no, we're just here for lunch". But when I got out of the car, I saw the trunk open and suitcases emerge. I was so moved by what my husband had done, and the effort he'd gone to to set this up. It was such a romantic weekend. (Only thing he'd "forgotten" to pack for me was my underwear!)

I LOVE Valentine's Day & my husband know it! Of course, it doesn't hurt that my bday is the following day. For the longest time my (now) husband would create me a card by drawing or copying the human heart. He would always say that he loved me enough to fill a 4-chambered heart, not the flimsy 2-chambered ones at the store. One year, when we were separated for Valentine's, he ordered, and had shipped to me, a solid chocolate 4-chambered heart. My friend thought he was nuts, but I loved it!

When my boyfriend(now husband) was in dental school and working in the lab, he made me a silver ring with 2 hearts on it. I loved that ring and 32 years later I still treasure that and polish it!
I love your site and the chirp fabric line.

I have enjoyed watching birds as far back as I can remember, and I especially enjoy watching birds eat at our bird feeders. One of our most entertaining feeders is for the Bluebirds, where the bird enters inside the feeder to eat. Weather had aged our feeder so bad that the bluebird food was getting wet, not a good thing. Dear hubby decided to make a new feeder using the old one as a pattern, Valentine's Day was near, and his gift still proudly feeds our birds today.

Thanks for the chance to win!

Best ever gift was the first gift my husband (then boyfriend) gave me - a string of pearls - he teased me and would not tell me. I thought I could talk him into telling me before Christmas, but he wouldn't even give me a hint. I was thrilled!

In 1981 I was taking a Biology class in college. My professor talked really fast and, at times, I had a hard time keeping up with my notes. So, in passing one day, I mentioned to my husband that it would be nice to have a small tape recorder so I could tape the lectures while I took notes. On Valentine's Day that year he surprised me with a tape recorder and some chocolates. I was so surprised.

I have always loved things I can use for Valentines Day. I'll take fabric any day over roses!

My favorite gift is my wedding ring! Hands down ! I know is sound rather fairy tale but I LOVE my ring. Dan did a great job of picking it out and it means so much to me. There was a sunday not to long ago that we actually turned around on the way to church to go home. I thought I'd lost it and physicly could not function. Thank God that is was safe. But, totally not anywhere it should have been it is a miracle I have it. God placed it where I found it there is no other explaination. Now I dont where the ring till I can get it fixed so there will be no more panic attacks.

My favourite gift must have been one of the Kosta Boda crystal art pieces I got from husband a few years ago. We have very different tastes in art, so he's stretching his own comfort zone buying me these pieces. The artwork is gorgeous in itself, but the fact that he got it for me makes it even more special.

My best gift was my proposal - I thought it was going to happen on Valentine's Day for sure! We went out for a nice dinner and then to see Wicked...to my surprise, it didn't happen then! Of course, I was so upset and actually vented my frustration to my now-husband! But 10 days later, to my surprise, we got engaged!

Hiya,
The BEST Christmas present: I had lost my diamond in my wedding ring when we were at our timeshare here in Va Bch VA many years back. I still wore my wedding ring anyway trying not to remember the diamond was missing. A few years later it was Christman morning, with my five daughters sitting around we all opened our gifts. But, I noticed suddendly my hubby, Jeff, was not around, as I thought he was in the kitchen getting his coffee. Then here he comes with this gift bag and laid it down in front of me..it was heavy..I opened it up and pulled out a Bonsai tree and a note attached which read "This is your Journey's End Linda, don't you just love the ornament. I looked at the Bonsai tree and then our Chrismas tree back and forth a few times, THEN I saw it,, on a branch of the Bonsai Tree there was a diamond ring!! OMG, how could I miss that,, I looked around at my daughters and saw tears in their eyes they were so awed at what I had finally found, I started crying, hubby teared up and I gave him a hug and he put the ring on my finger while he knelt on the floor on one knee.. THAT was the bestest Christmas EVER~!

When I met my husband, his lovely wife of 48 years had passed away and he was a bit lonely. We just fell in love with each other and as he healed we grew closer. On Valentines Day, we had been dating for three months and he had asked earlier what I would like, so I said a diamond necklace, earrings and ring. He said after a lovely dinner, it is time to go shopping, we went to Jared and he let me pick out any earrings I wanted. We were married six months later with my necklace appearing around mothers day and of course my wedding ring. He is such a blessing to me.

my best valentine gift? I can't say I've ever actually recieved a valentine's gift, 7 years ago, I ended up in our church with a pastor asking me why we wanted to elope- this was my husbands way of preposing..we were married on February 18th, so valentines day gets passed over year now-although that one (in the church) is for sure my favorite, even if I was so shocked at the time I couldn't answer!
Other than that, last year he made me paper flowers that he cut and shaped and glued himself..(for our anniversary.)
I LOVE this line! Hope I can win~

What a lovely giveaway! Well, my birthday is Valentine's Day so my gifts that day are part Valentine's gifts and part birthday gifts.
I'd have to say that my favorite was the car my husband bought me for my 30th. Now, not just because it was a car but because of all of the thought that went into it. He researched it like crazy and picked a car that had all of the features hat he knew I'd love in one car. Plus he bought it about two weeks before the actual day and kept it at a friend's house and customized it a little more too. I love that he set it up as a surprise because he never surprises me and I love surprises. So it was mainly the effort that he put into finding me the perfect car than it was the fact that he bought me a car. :)

Such joy to arrive home with our sweet little boy and be greeted by our 3 year old son. All the hugs and kisses from our oldest to our youngest was the best gift of love.
Hope you have a wonderful Valentines Day.

My most memorable gift was a surprise from my husband this Christmas. We had been saving money (I thought) to fix his truck. On Christmas morning I didn't think anything of the large boxes...I figured he'd bought his truck parts and wrapped them. It was a new machine and sewing table for me. I cried and cried. Even my 4 kids were in on it.

It's so fun to read some of these great Valentine's Day gifts! My favorite gift is a lovely jewelry box that housed a simple necklace from the first Valentine's Day I celebrated with my husband. Whenever I think of THE most awesome gift - my DMIL comes to mind. When I first started quilting she sent me a $250.00 gift certificate from Keepsake Quilting! I was in 'shock & awe' & shopped online for hours! She is the best MIL ever & we do an annual quilt trek every year. We hit a big show like Houston or Paducah or we just hit the road with bags and credit cards. This year it is going to be a road trip from Houston to Atlanta. If you are a quilt shop in between....we'll be seeing you in the fall.

The best Valentine Day gift was from my boyfriend. We hadn't been dating very long when he asked out to dinner on Valentine Day. That year Valentine Day landed on my woman's league bowling night so I declined the offer. After thinking about for a day or two I called him up and asked if the dinner offer was still good. I decided I could bowl the other 51 weeks out of the year. Thinking about it now, what if he had made other plans.... but he said yes and we went to dinner at a local Mexican restaurant. This year marks our 20th year anniversary of going to dinner at that same restaurant. Yes, I married him. Last year after the chips and salsa had been served, the waiter brought me the biggest bouquet of flowers from my husband to celebrate our 19th Valentine Day dinner date.
