I'm wondering if a mitered corner tutorial would be helpful for anyone? Next up - Project Improv!
I had been putting off this block a little, hoping that I could get a few fat quarters before stitching it up . . . (didn't happen) I rummaged through my scraps and found colors in the requested fields and set to work.
A few thoughts about improv:- I like the end result, but not having a clear picture before starting is a challenge for me!
- I don't have enough of a stash for it to be really freeing. I tend to buy per project, or win bits and pieces :)
- I'm not sure I have the time for this sort of quilting, but . . .
- I think I need to make a larger piece before I make any decisions, which is part of the project, maybe I will get to a baby/toddler quilt soon.
Do you improv? the group pool has some great work in it!

yes! I need a mitred corner tutorial! I have an idea and I think that would be the best way to do the corners, but I don't know how!

The vintage sheet block is so pretty, and I think you did a great job with your improve block, too! I find it much harder to do, (and be pleased with) just one improvised block then a whole improvised piece. Doing just a block felt like I was looking at just one piece of the puzzle... I felt something was missing. Give the improvised baby quilt, or even just a small wall hanging, a try and see if you like the improvised style of working a bit better. (And It's okay if you don't!)
I would appreciate a tutorial on mitred corners. I've never learned. Your block is lovely. Speaks spring something that we has teased us of late. Did you get a ton of snow?

Your block is lovely, Amy! I'm surprised that you don't find the improv "freeing". I really liked it. Of course, I have yet to do another piece - ha,ha!!!
I agree that having a bunch of odds and ends lying around makes it easier. I am SO impressed and admire your discipline in buying the fabric you need with a particular project in mind. I really need to learn that! I think that living in a rural area and not getting to shop often, I tend to grab up something just because it appeals to me with no idea what I will do with it. Sometimes it works well, sometimes it just sits there.
You inspire me to work harder to follow your example. Thanks!
I love the vintage sheet block you did Amy, it turned out so nice (and perfect!) Your improv block is mighty fine too!
The mitered corners really pop in that solid fabric. I have only thought of mitered corners for borders. You might make me rethink! Cool blocks!
I haven't figured out how to not feel incredibly wasteful with improv work. It seems like lot of stuff gets cut away and thrown away. But your block is fabulous!!!
I really like the first square with the yellow. One of my favorite colors!
