I'm in deep. And I can't share a thing - but I want to keep connecting with all of you!
I'm wondering what you would like to hear from me. Do you have questions about me, our family, sewing, quilting, parenting - anything!?
I've been toying with the idea of posting "a day in my life" - but I'm not so sure that it's all that interesting. . .
I DO have a couple of questions for you --
Have you read any good books lately? If so please share titles!
How many loads of laundry do you do a week?
Aside from fabric, what is your favorite thing to purchase on Etsy? or what are you buying for Christmas presents on Etsy?
Random, I know - my thoughts have been very scattered this week! But please do leave me a comment and share what's on your mind - Thank you!

Hi - you should do a Day in the Life!
ReplyDeleteHave you read Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger? It is a great book.
Laundry - ha- I have only myself and husband these days on a small farm and yet we still manage to create at least 2 loads a day!
Keep blogging.
I do have a question about sewing... About a year ago, when I was a TOTAL newbie (now i'm just 2/3 newbie)to sewing and quilting, we bought a Janome sewing machine. However, the stitches are made on the BOTTOM of the fabric... so if I were to zigzag, the stitches are underneath the fabric and stitched with the bobbin thread. All stitches are like that, so I have NO CLUE how I'm supposed to applique or use those stitches. Any ideas?
ReplyDeleteAlso, bobbin tension and thread tension.. I still have problems with this. I'd love suggestions on that too! LOL
I read alot of "teenager" books - cause my kids are 11 and 14. I read what they read so I know what's going into that head of theirs. Just finished Hunger Games not too long ago - it was really good.
Laundry never ends. I'd say at about 2 loads a day...
I've never bought anything other than fabric via Etsy. Some of the things I would like are too expensive, so I try to figure out how to make it myself for a lot less...
:)
Kandra
BTW, I think an occasional "a day in my life" post would be great... we all meet these "collegues and friends" via blogging, but sometimes don't get the full picture :)
There's a giveaway that includes fabric scraps at my site if you'd like to enter.
Hunger Games is definitely a good read. I have a fourteen year old so I too am reading what the kids are reading.
ReplyDeleteHave your read anything by Charles De Lint? "Someplace to be Flying" was very good. I have read several other by him also.
I do two or three loads of laundry a day for a family of five.
I have only bought one thing on Etsy, a skein of yarn.
Definately keep blogging, I love reading about what you've been making, baking, up to with your family, and just daily life and it's challenges. So yes - 'a day in the life' post would be great!
ReplyDeleteEtsy, never bought anything from there, should give it a go really.
Laundry, most of the time it's just mine and my daughters, so on average about 4 loads a week! But she's almost a teenager, so it can vary depending on the weather and her social life! lol
What am I reading, The Time Travellers Wife' but that's on hold for Dan Browns 'The Missing Symbol'. Enjoyed 'The Lovely Bones' but can't remember who it's by - Sorry.
What's on my mind? Worrying about DD growing through the teenage years and challenging boundaries! Returning to work after prolonged recovery from surgery.
You have to read "The Story of Edgar Sawtelle." My all-time favorite book. It was one of Oprah's book club books. It's a good, long read and well worth reading.
ReplyDeleteHi! Fun questions by the way!
ReplyDeleteGreat book "Have a New Husband by Friday" by Kevin Leman. Uplifting and funny, not to mention accurate and helpful!!
Twenty loads a week give or take. A friend of mine calls it "Livin' the dream, baby!"
The only etsy purchases I make are fabric, and vintage sheets (technically more fabric)!
Blessings,
KT
A day in the life would be neat. I do love getting your up dated blogs.
ReplyDeleteBooks..... I dont read I'm horably dyslexic. But i have found a free program that reads what ever i highlight. it is called Free Natural Reader. When i first got it I cryed.... You dont know how fustrating it is to not be able to read.. Now I'm on the blogs and forum learning SO MUCH.
Laundry... I HATE IT... I have clean piles and dirty piles.. It just get in the way of my quilting time.. I have my husband and two teens. I do about 3 loads a day. This job is never done.
Etsy.. I havnt bought anything lately but i was thinking about putting up some bags I made.
Happily Quilting in Florida
Natalie
Yes please post 'a day in my life'. It is interesting to see what others are doing, about their families, projects, etc. I do at least 1-2 loads of laundry a day. I go to the gym 4 times a week after work. For two months now I have been without a kitchen, literally, due to updating this 1970's look. I have never purchased anything on Etsy, yet. A good book to read is "Water for Elephants" by Sara Gruen. I love your blog (even though I don't have one yet) and would miss you not posting something daily.
ReplyDeleteBridgette
Bridgette.R.Whittinghill@sscgp.com
I love to hear random things going on in your life. Nothing formal, just craft projects, recipes, home projects, family adventures. As if we were meeting for coffee and you don't me about your day or week.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun list of questions! I just bought some ornaments, a felt ball, and a brooch from Etsy shop owners. I also love to buy jewelry which I have listed in my blogroll. I just read a great series of fantasy books called Wicked Lovely. I do 2-3 loads of laundry a week (only 2 adults in our house).
Random day-in-the-life posts are interesting insights now and then. ;)
ReplyDeleteLaundry... It's just me & my hubby and we probably average a load a day. More if we've been doing something active rather than just go to work.
Etsy... I'm sorry to say I haven't caught that bug yet. Over the last couple of years I've purchased an art print, a couple of skeins of yarn, a necklace and a fabric or two.
Christmas... most of our friends & family are going low key this year. It will be simple gifts or time spent together. That's what really matters anyway, right?
Hang in there! I hear all book projects are intense. And there will be light on the other side!
I love when my favourite daily blog read comes with a new post. usually they are tied with a theme:
ReplyDeleteSoulemama - family and incorporating craft into family
V and co - same as Soulemama
YOU - the quilt festival and the many goodies.
On a second thought, I don't know you. Did you know some of the bloggers i thought they were aged older but actually younger than me (errr less than 40yrs)?
I also don't know what I want but hey, you want my thoughts. And those questions? Only thing I can answer is I LOVE the Prey series by John Sandford but currently reading a copycat of Lord of the Rings. If only we can read AND craft at the same time? I would be in heaven.
Let's see here...I just finished "Down the Common" by Ann Baer - very good book - gives you a reason to be thankful for modern life. I'm now starting "Albion Walk" by Gwendoline Butler. I don't get much time to read so it takes me a long time to finish a book. I try to do laundry only on Saturdays (if I'm home, that is) and I do about 5 or so loads each week. I haven't had the opportunity to purchase anything on etsy other than fabric and patterns - too tight with my money for "frivolous" things right now. Have a great day, Amy! ;)
ReplyDeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteI do one load of laundry every ten days, one load of dishwasher every 20 days, (have alot of ice tea spoons and forks) and "do" ten yards of fabric a day. Big smile. Pillow cases for charity when I need a quick fix, baby quilts for hospital when I can go alittle longer for a fix, and two dozen projects for me in various states of done, almost done, no where near done.... you get the pic.
How about what you are going to cook for T day, don't blog about it all on ONE day but spread it out.... or pics of this weeks "decorating". I have a turkey that has moved around the house over the years for its two weeks of glory and this year I had to point it out to DD as it is in the outside front door basket. Moving it out.... we will see if he makes it back next year....
Have so enjoyed YOUR festival.... there is always something to read when I need a break.....you would think after hundreds of stories they would get to be boring, but as you well know, they don't - This is Thank You for doing festival as this time around I can see that you must spend a HUGE amount of time and computer know how to make it happen. Time to make the bathrooms sparkel.
I haven't read anything noteworthy lately. I think it's been about a month since I last finished a book.
ReplyDeleteI do maybe two loads of laundry a week. If I get around to it. I can usually go two weeks before I have to do laundry (when I run out of clean underwear).
I've never bought anything on Etsy. Never even been there. Not quite sure what it is; I gather it's some kind of crafting community. If I can't make it myself then I will seldom buy it handmade. People always expect when they see a handmade gift from me that I made it and it's hard to let them down.
I love buying (and making) pin toppers! As for laundry...about 7 or 8 I'd guess. Some days none, some days 2 or 3 loads.
ReplyDeleteI think it'd be interesting for you to do a day in the life, especially since I suspect your daily life is much like everyone elses, and it be a great "Moments" opportunity.
I like to hear mostly about fabric shopping, sewing, what's inspiring you, etc. I like a little mix of daily life stuff thrown in (like what you've done in the past) but honestly am here for the quilt inspiration. Sometimes blogs that starts out as quilt blogs end up morphing into family blogs, and if I don't know the person, I tend to loose interest. Not because the families' lives aren't interesting, but I don't know them and am not invested in a relationship Does that make sense? My favorite quilt blogs are those that are mainly quilt-related content with a little personal life sprinkled on top, not the other way around.
ReplyDeleteI love to look on etsy, but usually don't buy. If I am going for handmade gifts, I like to make my own things for the most part when I can. If I were to buy it would likely be jewelery because I haven't ventured into that craft and I think there are some amazing artists and pieces out there for sale.
As for book - I second the recommendation for Hunger Games and Catching Fire that have been mentioned before. Good reads. My favorite books of all time are East of Eden, Ahab's wife, and Pillars of the Earth. Each is so, so good, but they are all really long books. Hope this helps. What are you brewing up???
Laundry-ugh. Probably 6 loads a week? Not my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI just finished up Juliet, Naked by Nick Hornby (don't worry--it's not really about naked ladies). Very good read.
As for Etsy...what DON'T I buy? I love getting art and cards particularly.
Someone Knows My Name by Lawrence Hill. The Canadian Edition is called The Book of Negroes. Oh my gosh, you won't get anything done until it's finished.
ReplyDeleteI love doing laundry. It's quick, and the dryer stuff gets folded while I watch a favourite daytime show in front of the tv. Guilty pleasure. I do about 5-7 loads a week, although I'm totally guessing right now.
I have a great recipe for you, but totally forgot to post it. It's quick and easy pasta. i'll go check if your linky is still working.
I really like hearing about people's family life. Even though it's a crafty blog, it's also about you, and we get more flavour about you and your family when we read stories about places you've gone to, activities....I love seeing photos of the area you live too.
don't worry...we'll be here for you!
You can always do a posting segment of 'crafts gone wrong' - projects you've attempted and they mucked up. That would really keep it real LOL!
I'd love to hear "A day in the life..."
ReplyDeleteI just finished People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks and cannot recommend it highly enough. If you can listen to books on tape, check it out from the library--it's read beautifully.
I do about 5-6 loads of laundry a week for the three of us.
I have purchased handmade soap and glass jewelry on etsy...I'm afraid to start purchasing fabric, as I've already got a healthy stash, and JoAnn coupons help with what I "must" have.
My SIL is on my mind right now...second nephew is due to arrive Saturday!
Hi, I think it's fun to do BOM's together on blogs, pictures of what you're creating, and snippets of life. I don't read the blogs with tons of life stories that are really long. Learning about people in blogland slowly is fine and less time consuming. We are 3 people and I do 2 loads a day. My husband says I create laundry because I like it! I go thru serious spurts of reading, and then switch to quilt/sew mags. Lovely Bones, Time Travelers Wife, all Philippa Gregory books (amazing), I was into biographies for about a year and read all the Running W/Scissors series, Glass Houses.
ReplyDeleteSorry, forgot to put Etsy stuff. I've started buying some fabric, I bought artwork from Swallowtail (love them), I like Fannie Nartes artwork, I bought 2 books from Lawrence Yang (sucksatlife) for my son for Christmas. The diversity and talent is wonderful and I love supporting other people like myself who prefer to do handmade.
ReplyDeletelove your random questions... as far as how many loads of laundry I do a week.. well yesterday I stood at my king sized bed folding and folding for over 2 hours! I have 2 year old twins and a 5 year old and it's amazing at how many thousands of pieces you can wash in just 3-4 loads!
ReplyDeleteas for any good books... read above - no time to read with 3 kids under 5. Reading blogs is the only reading I get to do and it's coming and going throughout the day as I pass by the laptop at the kitchen counter ;)
I'd love to hear more about your everyday life... those are the blogs I love the most ;)
Love from Texas! ~bonnie
I read a post from a blogger a while ago where she took you on a day in her life. She lived in Hawaii so it was interesting to see what she was seeing all day. I especially liked seeing the menu in her local McD and how they had spamburgers. I think your everyday sights are boring to you but to all of us it would be neat to see your local stuff. You could take photos of the food if you eat in a restaurant and of the menu and ask us what we would order if we were with you! You could also do the quilt store, etc. I like reality shows!
ReplyDeleteI think I know what you're saying. I don't know what I'll blog about in the next few weeks because I'll be making Christmas presents, so I can't post the pics until after Christmas.
ReplyDeleteLaundry? I love it. I'm a freak about laundry. I do about 6-7 loads per week.
Books? Water for Elephants was a great book, but now I hate the circus. Well maybe hate is too strong a word, but I look at the circus with a whole new perspective. My fav author: Elizabeth Berg. 2nd fav: Anne Tyler. So anything by them is good.
Love browsing Etsy for ideas but have never purchased anything there.
I'm reading through the Sookie Stackhouse books at the moment...
ReplyDeleteAnd 3 loads of laundry for 2 people - some weeks its 4 if we wash couch blankets, etc.
Let's see...I just finished reading "New Moon" (yes, I'm the last person on the planet to start reading Twilight series!) I'm giving myself a week to calm down from that book before I start "Eclipse."
ReplyDeleteI am working on a plain spoken quilt for my husband in the colors of his alma mater for Christmas. It is a surprise. I am REALLy excited about it!! But, I'm finding it hard to spread it out and work on it when he isn't around. I keep thinking I'll be working on it and he'll walk in.
This week I had a huge pile of laundry, so I think I did 8 loads on Monday. I could do some more but I've been sidetracked since then. And, besides, everyone still has clean socks and underwear so whats the rush?! :)
Have a good day!
I would LOVE to hear about a day in the life of Amy! Especially the parts where you learn how to balance family/sewing/quilting.
ReplyDeleteI am in the middle of reading "Odd Thomas" by Dean Koontz, and am enjoying it immensely.
I wait to do laundry for my husband and I until we are out of underwear. Then it's probably 5 or 6 loads in a day. Then the vicious cycle repeats itself ;)
I haven't purchased much on etsy, including fabric. I'm afraid of what the slippery slope of buying fabric online will do to our budget :( I DID buy a hand carved wooded ring for my husband before he was my husband, however, and loved the experience.
I've read a lot of good books, lately
ReplyDeleteRizzo's War, Lou Manfredo
A Quiet Belief in Angels, R. J. Ellory
How Shall I Tell the Dog?, Miles Kington
Rough Country, John Sanford
Half Broke Horses, Jeannette Walls
The Floor of the Sky, Pamela Carter Joern
The Professional, Robert B. Parker
Nine Dragons, Micheal Connelly
And that's just in Oct and Nov.
I do one or two loads of laundry every week or so, my husband is well trained, he does his own.
I buy a lot of different things on Etsy, jewelry, glasses, hats, etc.
No plans for Christmas via Etsy.
I, too, think a Day in the Life would be fun, and then maybe to do a Mr. Linky so we can all read about each others Days! I also like reading other's recipes of the week, what you learn about parenting, verses that speak to you, etc.
ReplyDeleteAs for the questions, I like to go on Etsy for jewelry (although I have never bought anything). I do 2-3 loads of laundry a day for our family, unless like last week I did none, and now I have about 20 loads to do!!
about that laundry...we have 6 and the baby is in cloth diapers, so i do anywhere from 7-10 loads a week.
ReplyDeleteYes, please do a Day in your Life post, I'm interested! :-)
ReplyDeleteI read Fried green tomatoes from Fannie Flagg in Hungarian and Jodi Picoult's The Pact in English lately. I loved both.
I do at least about 6-7 loads of laundry a week, we are a family of 5.
I don't shop on Etsy it is too expensive with the postal charges unfortunately - or maybe fortunately??? :-)) I do shop on Hungarian on-line sites, but try to either pick up the products myself, or order above a certain value so that they deliver free of charge.
My random thoughts? I have no thoughts in my head, I am too tired, and I am starting a a throat infection yet again...
Hope you are well,
Kristina
i would love to hear a day in the life! Sounds fun! Hope all is going well with your project!
ReplyDelete1. My dinner (recipe) came from your dinner search last week.
ReplyDelete2. I only read mysteries & I really only like Sue Grafton & Nevada Barr.
3. laundry - a lot less now that my son has out grown his cloth diapers. Used to be 2 loads a day without fail. (With the diapers taking two cycles, so that was more like 3 loads.) Now we try to do a load every other day.
Let's see. Since I'm unemployed, I don't buy anything on Etsy (or pretty much anywhere else except for food!). I do maybe 2-3 loads of laundry a week, but it's just me and the hubby. And good books? If you want to get in deep, try Neal Stephenson's Cryptonomicon and his entire Baroque Cycle. Other good stuff I've read in the last few months: The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, The King of Colored Town by Carryl Wimberley, People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks, The Commoner by John Burnham Schwartz, Mudbound by Hillary Jordan, The Opposite of Fate by Amy Tan (nonfiction), The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon, The Space Between Us by Thrity Umrigar. That should keep you busy! :)
ReplyDeleteA Day in the Life! Not a bad idea that I may steal too :) but my life is pretty dull -- work all day, craft til sleeptime :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fantasy fan and I love books by Brandon Sanderson. His book Elantris is really wonderful and his Mistborn trilogy is my favorite!
I've bought supplies on Etsy like my woven labels and I droll over all the lovely jewelry and once in a while splurge on a pretty piece for a friend :)
For Christmas, I'm thinking of making 2010 calendars and printing them at Spoonflower for friends and family :)
"A day in the life" rolls out one way or another in a blog, doesn't it? What's important is whether we are ~becoming~ in each day of our lives. You are artfully driving traffic up and I assume creating a work-at-home job for yourself...I hope it boosts your budget, ( cloth is expensive!) Fielding the quilt show and all certainly is work.
ReplyDeleteI think posting in a natural rhythm guided by your goals, which I perceive as (things do shine through) of being productive, creative, helpful and rightly focused might be the most rewarding. How does your web journal help you in the journey? That might be an interesting question to answer. For me, the questions I address on my blogs, the things I choose to share, rise from within me and my daily life...I write even if and when no one else reads it, and of course some of the most intense and personal writing is not for everyone to read but it informs me and more refined abridgments may surface in the public square.
One of the most important things we can do in our lives, our homes, our families, our communities, is to have right priorities. To blog is like a fragrance, not the flower itself.
So may you continue to bloom and blog happily away...
Hi Amy,
ReplyDeleteNothing wrong with having your thoughts all over the place! We all do and that is what makes us interesting!!:)
Hmmmmm...books....well, other than trying to catch up with all our magazines I am rereading "A Circle of Friends" by Maeve Binchy. I love that book and that movie.
Laundry...thought when our kids left it would be less but it isnt and now that one is back home for a year we are back to at least 2 loads a day but today I am behind so I am working on 5 loads!:)
Etsy...just last week I made my first etsy purchase. Rita at Red Pepper Quilts has these great labels for her quilts and has a link to this store, I think it is call Lillalotta. So I just ordered some cream cotton twill tape with a little pink heart and deeroo designs and I can't wait to get it and put them on all the quilts I have finished for the ORBC!:)
Dinner....it is raining...we are having a Noreaster....so it is going to be soup and maybe some cornbread with corn and peppers!:)
My son is a vegan so I am constantly looking for new ways to make things and it has actually made us eat healthier. We haven't given up meat but really only have it a couple times a month. We do try to eat fish a couple times a week...but that's if I have done a proper shopping!;) So our new fav thing to eat is roasted veggies....ah...little olive oil, little ground pepper and salt.....yum....ok...now I'm hungry!:)
15-20 loads per week :-)
ReplyDeleteI only purchase fabric on Etsy.
And no, I haven't read any good books lately. If I have a good book in the house I tend not to do anything else....
I just finished Dan Brown's latest "The Lost Symbol".
ReplyDeleteI have to do at least one load of laundry a day, or I fall behind. But if I do all of our clothes, somehow they don't fit in our dressers! How is that?
You really ought to do a day in the life... for people like me who are curious how a mother of 4 gets anything done!!!
ReplyDeleteBooks... I haven't been reading lately but the last I read and loved was The Onion Girl by Charles de Lint. And an all-round good read is A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson.
Laundry... 3 or so loads... it's only my husband and I.
Etsy... I don't buy anything but fabric on there heehee!
I just received my copy of Jennifer Chiaverini's new book "A Quilter's Holiday". Ive been re-reading some of the older books while I waited for it to arrive.
ReplyDeleteMy Blog is the Quilting Grandma so I blog about my Grandkids and my Quilts.
I'm an empty-nester too and I do laundry when the basket gets full. Sometimes only 2-3 loads a week. There's more if I go on a shopping binge. I don't do any online buying for Christmas or otherwise.
Hi Amy, I like the idea of 'a day in the life'. I also like the idea of a linky so we can all check each others days out as well. As far as laundry, I'd say about 4 loads per week.
ReplyDeleteI just re-read one of my favorite books "Bread Alone" by Judith Ryan Hendricks. I have lots of others too, but that one is sticking in my head right now.
Etsy =love! I buy mostly fabric, yes, but also handmade soaps and the occasional jewelry purchase.
The biggest thing on my mind right now is getting going on my Christmas gifts. I'm going entirely handmade this year, so it's going to be fun!
Love your blog!
~Molly
You should post whatever you want to write about. It is your blog, after all. And I'll read it! (Though I am partial to craftiness.) :)
ReplyDeleteBooks? One of my recent favorites is Joshilyn Jackson's The Girl Who Stopped Swimming (in fact, I've really enjoyed all of her books).
Laundry? Including diaper laundry, probably about 13-14 loads a week. But that's just me and the boy. My husband actually does his own laundry! :)
I've never bought fabric on Etsy, but I have purchased a few patterns (quilting and sewing) as well as clothing for my son. And I bought a lovely little needlebook once.
Amy, I can't wait to hear about what has you so busy, though I understand it is going to be awhile.
ReplyDeleteI do 8 to 12 loads of laundry in an average week, and with a broken dryer, that is a lot of trips to the laundromat!
My go to books are not new, but anything contemporary Lori Wick. Pretense, Every Storm and Bamboo and Lace to name a few.
And, only fabric off Etsy so far, and nothing this Christmas, as I plan on making all of my gifts this year.
I just finished reading The Time Traveler's Wife, and it was FANTASTIC! I devoured it in two days - I couldn't put it down!
ReplyDelete5-6 loads of laundry a week.
ReplyDeleteNo great books lately, but okay ones.
I do buy from Etsy occassionally, just waiting for two purchases actually. I try not to buy fabric though because I want to support my LQS whenever possible.
Can't wait to hear your news!
I've been reading the Women's Murder Club series by James Patterson and Blue Like Jazz - but I can only read a few chapter in that one a week, it's pretty challenging.
ReplyDeleteLaundry - Ha! I probably only do about 3 loads every 2 weeks... sorry!
Give us more of what's happening around that house!
Love you!
Natalie
A day in the life would be fun. I would have to agree with an earlier comment, I don't tend to read blogs that are heavy on the person's life with very little crafting. I have been doing laundry on Sundays and whatever can get done with everything else going on that day gets done. I have just started to spread it out a bit more. Other than buying fabric on etsy, the other thing I enjoy buying is patterns. I like paper piecing so I have bought some of those lately. Books to read - I work in a library so I usually read whatever the teens are reading. They usually want help choosing their books. I just finished reading Ruth Reichl's Garlic and Saphhires. It was a fascinating look at her time as the New York Food Critic. I find that you have a good balance in your blog writing. Hope this helps!
ReplyDeleteI always look to see what's new on your blog! I'll read whatever's on your mind. The best book ever, and you MUST read it, MUST, ok? MUST! Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. It's the 1st in a series of 6? And they only get better and better. Imagine a heroine (Claire) who is brilliant, timeless & witty, you'll learn so much, you wont realize and a hero (Jamie) who is strong, rich in character, rugged but realistic, deep and insightful...these books are a journey. Next read Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers (w/a box of kleenex but not without having your life changed)...never bought on etsy. And I taught 2 good friends to quilt using your summertime quilt-a-long whilst our kids played. Thank you for that.
ReplyDeleteI'm a mom of 7 & we live with my brother & his son, so this house does maybe 10 loads/week. My kids do the laundry, I think laundry is just way overrated!
~anna in md, www.bohemiancotton.blogspot.com/
So far, I have only purchased from Fabric Supplies on Etsy. I was lucky to win fabric from them after the spring festival, and I purchased more. I love what they carry.
ReplyDeleteWhile I believe that everyone has a story, I am more interested in artistic inspiration when I read blogs. I don't really want to read how many times people do laundry.
So many books, so little time. I am currently reading Angle of Repose by Wallace Stegner, published in the 1970s and very good. Love Jhumpa Lahiri's books--she's a great writer. And if you need something light, A Dog's Life, by Peter mayle, is a very well-written and very funny read. It's great on tape.
Amy-A great book- The Help by Kathryn Stockett. I think you'll like it as much as I did-I could not put it down.
ReplyDeleteLaundry-I do at least 4-5 loads every week-we use to many clothes I think : )
I'm sure you'll come up with something to entertain us-you always do!
Books: I love "THe Birth House" by Ami McKay. ONe of my favorites. I also really like Water for Elephants, Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers, if you like mysteries, then Janet Evanovich writes really good books.
ReplyDeleteGreat books...no, not so much. But, entertaining - I am currently reading The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown...it keeps you interested.
ReplyDeleteLaundry - actually, I average two loads a week -
I've never bought anything on Etsy...but, have looked around...
I'll be happy reading whatever you feel like writing about. Little clues to your daily life will be welcomed.
ReplyDeleteI love to read, but haven't really had time. Books on Tape is a good way to multi-task.
Laundry--one load every other day.
Etsy--I have purchased a LOT of fabric. And quite a few other things--including graphic design work for my own etsy shop banner. Etsy is addicting.
I love books. Since going back to work after maternity leave I have a 1 hour trip to read again (or listen to music). Fantastic. I just finished New Moon by Stephanie Meyer. Its a good read. I am really hanging out though for the latest Sue Grafton book to be released on December. the last one 'T is for Trespass' was great. I have also read some good 'chick lit' by Liane Moriarty. She only has 3 books but they all had great characters which kept you turning the pages quickly. In Australia we have an Etsy equivalent called Madeit and just last night I bought 2 gorgeous pencil rolls that also have a pocket for a notebook. I am endeavouring to not go near the shops in December. I already have quite a few presents bought/made. Not always this organised though. Its just this year for some reason I have already thought what I want to buy everyone. I love your blog no matter what the content. You have a nice mix of everything.
ReplyDeleteI read tons of good books and thats generally what I blog about. Lately I read 'Small is Heaven' by Emily Schultz and 'The boy Next Door ' by Irene Sabatini. This month I am reading less and have joined NaNoWrimo.org and am writing my own book. It had quilters and silk fabric and a mysterious treasure and 'Dear Jane' and lots of orange fabric. Can't wait to see what happens next.
ReplyDeleteAmy - I love reading your blog for lots of reasons but mostly because - 1) I find you inspiring - you have great creative ideas and you make them seem easy to achieve 2) your are completely personable and your blog is very relatable
ReplyDeleteSo anything you want to share is always appreciated. In fact if you've got any tips on how to toilet train and keep 2 year olds sleeping in their own beds at night - I'd be grateful hehe
As regards the loads of washing. I measure time in washing loads. When I decided to start a little blog I thought about calling it "My life as a washing machine". This week I have done 7 loads of normal washing and I've got 3 loads of "special" washing to put through today. And we're not even at the end of the week.
I'd like to hear about yoru day. I think my life's so dull anythign would be fascinating! I am self-taught, so if you did tutorials, or what not on some basic quilt stuff I probibly would get a lot better than my trial and error =)
ReplyDeleteI haven't bought anythign on etsy yet, but I tend to like patterns and kits in addition to fabirc. I have an idea for my own etsy shop, butit's only one idea. Maybe two if I make the product and sell a pattern for it too.
I hve five hampers, I don't go by loads/week I go by what hampers full and if I think it shoudl be about time to change sheets/wash blankets (both bed and couch) etc. The hampers are: R(the three year old), H (the three month old), Towels/blankets/coats/whatever else, and the man and I share darks and lights hampers. I sort of wish we did it his vs mine, but I would end up doing it either way so whatever.
as for good books, I am going through a Catherine Coulter phase, thanks to my aunt who sent me TONS.
You should go for your idea of posting a "day in my life" like once a week? You write about one thing and we would post comments about "this" thing in "our life". So that you would feel the conneciton with us;)
ReplyDeleteI do approx. 5 loads per week (for 2 adults and one little girl).
I read lately a nice book (translated in French) "Hothouse Flower and the Nine Plants of Desire"!
I only purchase fabric on Etsy! But other kind of things on eBay.
I'll try to do my best to "craft" some presents this year for my family;)
I hope to read a new couple of questions soon!
Oh I would love a day in the life!! That way I would know how you get so much quilting done!!
ReplyDeleteI have three boys and my laundry has gone from about 10-12 loads a week to three since one went to college, one moved out and one does mostly his own.
I just read "the art of racing in the rain" by Garth Stein and I would highly recommend it. It's the story a man and his family as told by his loyal and loving dog. Loved it!
Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver. Great book.
ReplyDeleteLaundry? at least 2 loads/day...
ReplyDeleteBooks. I love cheap paperback mysteries, Susan Wittig Albert, Tamar Myers, and Laura Childs.
Sending hugs your way...you can blog about anything you want. I love pics of fabric and projects... helps boost my imagination...
Be sure to take some time for you... you deserve it!!!
I actually like Clive Cussler books and am reading Iceberg. Also read Sense & Sensibility and The Lost Symbol lately.
ReplyDeleteLoads of laundry in a week? Well just today I did 3, so... guessing 8 - 10.
Oh Laundry - the bane of my existence - I do at least 10 a week. As far as books go, The Master Butcher's Singing Club is fabulous. Seriously. It's like reading a Wallace Stegner novel. Really a great read. I'm current;y reading World War Z, and I have to say that it is great too, but in a comletely different way. Don't let the premise scare you away (there is a war with zombies and this book is a journalist's compilation of post-war interviews.) It is fascinating, especially with the whole H1N1 scare these days.
ReplyDeletesome other people have already suggested The Time Traveler's Wife, that's definitely a MUST read! I recently reread Sunshine by Norma Klein, it's a really old one but still pretty good.
ReplyDeleteA day in the life would make a good post! It's always fun to hear how such talented people get so much done
I loved reading Shantaram. It is being made into a movie with Johnny Depp. My question to you is what is your secret in managing your time? I just seem to never get much accomplished in a day! I like reading your blog because there is always something new that you are working on!
ReplyDeletein deep & can't share a thing.. hmmm i wonder... ;-) laundry.. 2-3 a week. i love not having any kids yet!!
ReplyDeletea day in the life would be so much fun:)
ReplyDeletebooks: Love and Logic, a parenting book
laundry/week: 12 loads
etsy: I love finding cool stocking stuffer gifts, my favorites are full of things right now, no specifics, but I love the personalized stuff. Got a cool last name photography print last year, each letter represented by a "thing" in the outside world...so cool:)
laundry never ends at this house....today's book is Mercy by jodi piccolt (sp?) ..... that woman writes to make us think
ReplyDeleteLaundry is no big deal...my kids do their own, so I just do towels, sheets, and mine and my husbands...just finished Three Cups of Tea...a wonderful book! Love all your posts!
ReplyDeleteA day in the life would be great. We all love your quilts, tell us more about you!
ReplyDeleteIf you are looking for a can't put it down must read book, read The Tea Rose and then The Winter Rose by Jennifer Connely. Those books were amazing! I highly recommend them! But I have to warn you that once you get about 100 pages into the first one you can't stop!
I normally do about 8-10 loads of laundry a week. I can handle washing and folding is OK, I just hate the putting away part. I currently have three loads of clean laundry piled in a basket, I folded it on Sunday! : )
I'm reading the Outland series right now. They are SOOOOO good! But each one is like 800 pages, so it takes me a long time to read them.
ReplyDeleteThere is always laundry to be done. How I hate laundry. I'd say I average a load a day for my little family of 4.
Besides fabric I've bought necklaces and purses on Etsy. I've gotten gifts there before, not sure about this year though. Need to check out my list.
Ok...The Sookie Stackhouse books by Charlaine Harris if you need some pure escapism.
ReplyDeleteI do laundry everyday but I am anal about that sort of thing.
Have only purchased a few handmade items from etsy..I generally get supplies from there though x
"a day in the life" would be fun to read, it's always nice to see how other creative moms spend their time.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite book atm is my bilingualism textbook. not a light read, but fascenating all the same..
I do about 5 loads of laundry a week, but there are only 3 of us.
And I have never bought anything from etsy. i don't even go to look. I assume there must be wonderful things on there, but i know i don't need any of them.
A day in the life would be awesome! I want to know how anyone gets anything done with more than one kid..I'm having a hard enough time doing it with one!
ReplyDeleteI do about 5 loads of laundry a week..but I have to use a miniscule apartment washer/dryer that holds less than half a load for a normal machine!
Books- depends on what you like. I really enjoy fantasyish stuff(yeah, weird I know). Just read the 12th book of the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan, it is EXCELLENT.
I discovered the Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon last year. I cannot get enough of these books! They are historical fiction, time travel and great romance. Just finished the 7th book last month and the anticipation for the next is already killing me!
ReplyDeleteLove your blog! Personally, maybe 1 load of laundry a week . . .my wonderful husband picks up my slack ;) Some good books I've read lately:
ReplyDeleteThe Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society
Uglies (Pretties and Specials too)
Austenland
The Ladies No. 1 Detective Agency
The Historian
Darcy's Story
I like to buy Jewelry on Etsy, and occasionally supplies for my own use, like fabric covered buttons and such.
I bought soap on Etsy for christmas, and I have bought over time: card holders for my wedding, the clutch for the wedding, T-Shirts, hand dyed yarn, mouse pads and jewelry.
ReplyDeleteI loved Margret Atwood's Oryx and Crake.
Love your blog Amy so yes, a day in the life would be great. This thread is very interesting too! I've just read "Sleep, Pale Sister" by Joanne Harris, loved Time Traveller's Wife (apparently the film isn't very good so will avoid that) and am catching up with the Elm Creek Quilters, I'm just about to read the Christmas story. I've never bought anything on Etsy. What was the other question? Oh yes, washing. I usually do three loads a week - we do a lot of handwashing to save power and water.
ReplyDeleteI want to hear about your sewing and quilting adventures. Even if it's WIP's or what your thinking about sewing and even lessons learned :)
ReplyDeleteI just finished re-reading A Thousand Splendid Suns. Always good and now I'm reading The Help and I'm really enjoying it!
*I* do about 4-5 loads a week, but my two oldest do their own laundry and add about 4 loads together.
I'm thinking about purchasing my dh a ceramic shaving mug and brush for Christmas.
I have been reading Julia Golding's series called The Secret of the Sirens, The Gorgon's Gaze and Mines of the Minotaur. Still have one more to read. There's 4 books in all.
ReplyDeleteHubby does all the laundry and I fold and iron about 5-6 loads a week.
I love to look at handmade items Etsy but have never shopped there. I usually go to my local quilt shop to buy fabric or Joann's depending on the type of sewing project I have in mind.
A big thanks to you for hosting the blogger's quilt festival! It has motivated me to get back to my quilting and finishing up my quilting and sewing patterns so I can publish them.
Wow you got a lot of input on this post! That's awesome! I do about 4-5 loads of laundry a week. I'm sure that will change when baby comes. I wish I bought more stuff off etsy. I REALLY want to buy some felt food for the kids. I'm too lazy to make it.
ReplyDeleteYour posts are always great, I'm sure you have some good material!
Have you read Crossing to Safety by Wallace Stegner (a Utahn!) It's a sweet story about two couples who meet in college and become lifelong friends, not without their struggles. I really liked it.
My daughter and I have really enjoyed the Mysterious Benedict Society series. I read In Praise of Stay at Home Moms by Dr. Laura.
ReplyDeleteI usually do about 10-12 loads per week. And they are huge loads. (I have four kids.)
The only thing I've ever purchased from Etsy besides fabric is a set of beautiful art prints from a very talented young lady. Her Etsy shop is BreezyTulip.
Thanks for asking! It's been fun reading everyone's comments.
Two great books I've read recently: The Book Thief, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society
ReplyDelete2-3 loads of laundry a week (just 2 of us)
I like buying things on etsy that I can't make myself (stationery, interesting bags, etc)
My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult is awesome! Also, The Secret Lives of Bees is a wonderful read
