Hairy Moments

Just in case Owen isn't the only one with the desire to put a train in his sisters' hair!  This is what happens - and it hurts!

The back story --  I was vacuuming up after the Christmas tree removal and had shooed Sophia and Owen into the kitchen while I did so.  Owen loves his new "choo-choo" and was protecting it from the big, noisy vacuum!  They each had one running against their cheek, both curious about the rub they were getting - when Owen had a great idea!  Put it in her hair!!  She must not have been paying enough attention, and as he is refusing to talk much more than "choo-choo" opted to whack her in the back of the noggin.  Thankfully, I heard Sophia's screams over the noisy vacuum, and came to her rescue!

After turning off the engine, I realized the best option was to cut it out, and get the pain over with!  It's in the back and haven't noticed the lack of hair yet - though a ponytail may be a challenge right now.

At the moment it was a little unnerving but now I'm laughing - what else are you going to do!?  What have you cut out of hair??

  1. Hahhhaaaaahahaa! My sister is 10 1/2 years younger than me and when she was about 7 she fell asleep in my lap with gum in her mouth and it got stuck in my hair...my hair that was all the way down to my waist! We couldn't get it out. I think she was chewing my hair and her gum and I didn't notice so it was really ground in! So we had to cut it but I wasn't about to cut allllll my hair so I cut out the gum from the right side and had to cut the left side to make it even so in my HS graduation picture I have these sideburns just below my chin while the rest of my hair was still to my waist. Plus my eyebrow on one side was sorta split in half....couldn't the photographer tell me to rub it back so it didn't have that split....noooooooo!;)

  3. Oh no! Those crazy brothers... they'll get you every time!

When I was little, I fell asleep with my retainer in my mouth. Upon awaking, it was gone! My mom and I searched everywhere, for more than an hour, before giving up. My mom told me to go get dressed and comb my hair. Lo and behold, but where was my retainer but stuck in my hair!

  4. Oh my poor Sophia! Well thankfully it will grow out. The only thing I can think of that my children had in their hair was gum :-( We did have a little hairdressing moment to get it out ;-)

  5. Old electric hair curlers. Some of them were not really great and your hair could tangle when you were unrolling them - once it was so bad I had to cut a chunk of hair off to get the curler out -- my own hair!!!

  6. Eleanor held a battery-powered train (on, naturally) to her head and it got caught in her hair about a year ago (she's 2.5 now). I wasn't there at the time, but when my husband went to detangle/cut it, it just pulled out a chunk of hair and left a bald patch about 1" in diameter. Fortunately her hair was JUST long enough to cover it, but it took a while to grow over, and for ages we could tell where it had been by the shorter hair there.

  7. Oh dear....yes, we've done the matchbox car tightly to the head of a long haired sister thing, but probably most commonly is bubble gum :::sigh::

And your tree is down already?! We'll probably have our major present opening on Thursday when all the family is home so our tree won't be coming down until after the weekend. I don't mind it too much as I love having just tree lights on in the late evenings or early mornings :-)

  8. My daughter had just discovered Elmers glue. Without me knowing, she took a nap with an open bottle. So as you can imagine, it got into her hair and was impossible to get out. Even with peanut butter! So chop chop and she ended up with a very cute pixie hair due.

  10. being a middle child...i had my hair cut and forced others to cut their hair... i think a train was a reason once, but because of a kid i babysat. one of my more memorable moments was as a teenager. i was chewing a huge piece of bubble gum, as i always did, and leaned over to look at a new painting my mom was working on. the gum fell out and into my very long hair and stuck. my mom suggested peanut butter so the oils would loosen it. nope. didn't work. then there was something else. didn't work. then there was ice - supposed to have frozen the gum so you could (get this) whack it with a hammer and the gum would break into pieces. i DON'T recommend it. the gum stayed in one piece and my hair broke off.

  11. Poor little Sophia, those brothers can be terrors. LOL I remember bubble gum in my hair but I'm sure there were some other things I can't remember at the moment. I hope your day goes better.

  12. Ouch! Poor Sophia!

My sweet nine-year old was blow drying her own hair recently and using a round brush like I do, only she was touching the end of the dryer to her hair and was burning it. When I walked into the bathroom, I screamed when I smelled the burning hair. It took a while to cut out all the singed and melted hair. I felt so bad for her!

  13. Oh those brothers are a challenge aren't they? When I was three-ish my older bro decided we should play barbershop. All our Mom could do was laugh at what little hair I had left. That is not my worst experience though...how I managed to get a dremel drill caught up in my hair is still a mystery but boy did that hurt! lol

  14. Poor thing! I didn't cut anything from my hair but when I was little and crafting (I did it then, too) my hair was simply in my way so I cut it!

  15. That is sad, but really funny! I remember having a round brush cut out of my hair when I was little:)

  16. Awe, poor little mite! I had a hairbrush cut out once (once is enough!) But most memorable is happily swinging on the big swings about 7 years old, long flowing hair got caught in the cahin on the swing - ouch! After having my kids and the constant hair pulling, I finally had it cut short ... LOL

  17. Oh let's see... gum, candy, burned ends from leaning over a candle, and a helicopter (one of the little remote ones)! All from one little girl, and her brother always looks on in a panic!

  18. Oh goodness gracious! I am certain sometimes things happen just so we an tell the funny stories when the kids are grown.

Merry Christmas Amy and many happy blessed days in the new year!

  19. My baby girl had a wheeled hamster toy caught up in her hair.

As for me, I let 13 yr-old boys do my hair once as part of a "Swan" show at summer camp. To get it to stand on end there was Elmer's glue, two spoons, a bic pen a rubber band, and some dirt. I WAS crowned the "Swan" that evening tho. BTW to remove the glue I used hot water and a LOT of conditioner.

It was LOL funny to read everyone's stories. THX

  20. My boys have both cut their own hair, but I haven't had to cut anything specific *out* of hair yet. Yikes, knock on wood.

  21. Oh goodness! That's quite a bit of hair on there!! I've thankfully never had to cut anything out of my hair, though one time my sister decided to take a chunk out of her bangs for no reason at all. Our mum was so livid lol!

  22. Exactly the same happened to my mother 50 years ago. It was christmas, too, and her little brother got a train, too. :-)

  23. I haven't had to get anything out of my boys' hair, but when I was about 10 (old enough to know better) I fell asleep with gum in my mouth and woke up with it in my hair (rear-end length, silky, blonde, MOM'S pride and joy-hair). So she wouldn't be mad at me, I cut it out-- a huge chunk in the back under the top layer. Keep in mind that she always fixed my hair and ponytails were standard-- and you are right, it was challenging! When she found it she told me I couldn't go with her to town and our Saturday trips to town were the highlight of my week!! I had to stay home with my dad who got a good laugh out of it. Lesson learned.

  24. I hate gum for that very reason! I've had to cut hair that is saturated in the goop after my daughter slept with her gum in.

BUT, I've found out if you use peanut butter on the gum it makes it goey and allows it to be washed out of the hair instead of needing a haircut. Wish I would have known that 15 years ago! :)

  25. Oh no! Percy has been cut from my hair too after Ollie thought it would be a good idea to stick it in my hair too! Boys huh. All Ollie's trains don't have batteries anymore to prevent that from happening. We decided to wait until he was a bit older to put the batteries back in just in case...

I've also cut marshmallow fish and rocky road out of Ollie's hair.

    Happy New Year!

PS - I got my diamond engagement ring for Christmas! It's beautiful!

  26. my almost 4yo lost about the same amount of hair on Christmas Eve, ripped out from a Zhu Zhu pet. She ripped it out though- no cutting required, which must have hurt badly.

  28. I haven't had to cut anything out of anyone's hair . . .YET, but I am sure it is just a matter of time!

  29. Sorry no hair cutting for me - but these comments are hilarious!

  30. Haha I have done this with my two children. My son loves his trains and almost every train we have, I have had to cut hair away from the wheels. Weather it be me, my husband, my daughter, or our dog... I have had to cut hair. It's not funny at the time but I laugh now... you only live once right!

  31. as a kid at overnight camp, I once got fly paper stuck in my hair ewwww! My kids... mostly gum, hair ties. Oh and a guinea pig (but no cutting necessary!)

  32. When I was little (back in the stone ages) my sister had a wind-up car that she drove over the top of my head and you can guess the rest. It was very painful. I understand your daughters pain! She'll learn to laugh with you one day soon I'm sure.

  33. Ouch! That is one for the memory books!
Gum is about the only thing I've cut out of hair...

  34. ouch! Thank goodness for scissors! That would have hurt to have to yank it out.

  35. Uhm....a toy circular saw....We had to break the saw to save the hair!!!

  36. My Emma just did this very thing with a Zhu-Zhu pet! It looked just like that! Oh, and it took forever to get the hair out of the little wheel. Good thing she has a TON of hair! You can't even tell it happened:)
