My husband and I have a tradition of having a cooking date each Valentines Day. Our favorite was John Grisham's recipe for catfish lafitte that we made a few years ago the first Valentines Day in our first house.

My favorite gift for Valentine's Day is going out to dinner with my husband for Spaghetti. Don't need flowers or jewelry, just going out on a date with my hubby is a perfect gift.

we don't really do gifts for valentine's day, but my first mother's day gift was special. It was a difficult day, just weeks after the loss of our month-old baby girl. My husband had a precious picture of her and I blown up and framed with the words, "Mommies are Forever" on it. It made me feel lots better and still holds a special place in my heart.

Those fabrics are so incredibly cute! My favorite Valentine was one I gave to my hubby 2 years ago - a jar of 200 love notes. It was fun to make and fun to give and a nice reminder of all the big & little reasons I love him.

I know how this will sound, but my favorite Valentine's present was a dead tulip and a bag of Fritos from my soon-to-be fiance. (I did get an engagement ring a few days later). He was not so creative in the gift-giving department back then, but he's gotten better over the last 15 years. You can imagine how much I love reminding him of that gift from time to time. We both get a good laugh out of it!

Down it the Southern Hemiphere it is summer, So this day my husband and I aways spend it at the beach followed by a sand picnic with fresh bread rolls, advocardo and prawns. It started twenty years ago just with us, then our puppy's and now with our four precious children, more about the time together for us.

I get the best Valentine's gifts every year. My hubby and I write letters to one another and they are the sweetest. You know life gets so busy and we forget to say what we really feel every day, so every Valentines Day I am reminded how much he means to me and how much I mean to him. We are very lucky, we have been together for ten wonderful years.

My Grandad always gave me a beautiful heart shaped box of candy. As a child it made me feel so grown up. As an adult it made me feel loved. I received my last beautiful box of candy from my Grandad in 1983, I was 28. I guess that was the best one.

The best valentines gift I ever received was when my Mom was sick and I was going to pick her up from the hospital and stay with her for a couple days. My hubby had hid a new jewelry armore in the back of the vehicle. Plus he also had a bag of my favorite candy (Twizzlers) and a can of SPAM (my favorite). The best part was he took so much slack from the checkout girl (he also works same place)but just stood there and kept smiling telling her "I know my wife she will love it". And I did. (I would have been on cloud 9 with just the twizzlers and the spam)

I remember when my husband was still my boyfriend, and he was in Wisconsin, and I was in Toronto, CA. Both of us are students, and we don't have much money to buy anything for each other. However, I got a heart shape candy bracelet from him. At that time, even though it's not a value present, I still remember how touching I was at the moment I received.

Valentine's Day 1986 - We had only one car. I had a seven day a week early morning newspaper delivery route from 4:30am to 6am. I also babysat children in our home from 6:30am until 8pm Monday through Friday along with caring for our 11 month old daughter everyday. My husband's job, restaurant management, kept him away from home six days a week from noon until midnight or later. Some mornings my husband would be going to bed as I was waking up to deliver newspapers. On this particular Valentine's Day, I thought that was the case until I really focused on the bedside clock and realized I had slept way too long! He pulled me back into bed, kissed me and said, "Don't worry. I delivered the papers. Happy Valentine's Day!" And that is one of the reasons our partnership has survived more than 25 years!

Valentine's is fairly new (and way plasticky) here in Portugal (is this open internationally? if not, then please skip over me), so my best gift is from my mom, who lived in the States with me, and is fond of this holiday (and most others): a Meyer lemon tree, my favorite, the year I was really depressed and tired.
Best I've given will be this year, a doll I'm finishing for the baby.

The best Valentine's gift I've ever received was from my husband while we were dating. It was our first Valentine's together and I had just come back from a week with 200 junior high kids skiing and camp food. He picked me up, made me my favorite dinner and presented me with my gift, a book. The book featured the both of us as the main characters. It was a fictional story that used our characteristic and physical attributes to describe the characters. It was the funniest thing I've ever read.

When I started dating my husband, my best friend sent me a luscious red satin gown. She knew I was meeting my "soon to be" hubby for Valentines in Marrietta, GA. When he saw me in the gown his mouth fell open. But when he handed me a little box all wrapped in red paper, my mouth was the one that dropped. Inside was a beautiful diamond necklace. It was the very first diamond I had ever been given. Of course I cried like a baby.

my beloved proposed to me on a mile long pier at midnight so it was very dark,I was not expecting it-wejust had a lovely dinner & it was getting late.We were at the Lake & I always walk out along the pier.My beloved has some `issues'(heights,lights,..)the piers narrow & have no railings towards the ends -it's late, dark, waves crashings, no lighting,he is trying to propose & has this package in his hand that I am not aware of:soft pink satin gloved `hands' holding a satin pinker heart. with what I thought was a stitched ring. I toss it down to hug & kiss him as he cringes in shock, as waves crash over nearly taking it with, he falls to the cement to claim it...it is a diamond engagement ring he adorably put on it... (why didn't he do it over dinner with champange in a warm room?) WEll this I will never forget.

It is hard to think over all the years what the best gift I ever received is. Maybe this year, my husband gave me 3 sheep. Now, that may sound strange, but since a little girl I have wanted a sheep. I am now 61 and just got my sheep!

As far as giving a gift, I think it was with my late husband. His birthday was Valentines day so it was a double great day. One year I posted an ad in the paper under auto, as he was looking for a car. It was a Happy Birthday, Happy Valentines day "ad". He was still in school, we had several kids and no money. To him the "ad" and the homemade dinner following was a big surprise and and a real heart warmed for me to give.

He died in 99 and even though I am remarried I find Valentine's day a bit of a bitter sweet day. I still remember his face that day he read the "ad".

My husband is not a good gift-giver. Living so frugally when we were first married, twenty years ago, and not knowing what to do, he went to Target and bought an indoor countertop electric grill! I think it was $12.00. We grilled hot dogs and had a great time.

My best Valentine's present was my husband. I know it sounds cheesy, but bear with me a moment.

I was in the middle of my divorce, I hadn't seen my daughter all week and wouldn't see her for at least 4 or 5 more days (she was with her father on vacation), and I was feeling absolutely lonely and miserable. My then-boyfriend drove 9 hours to surprise me and spend the weekend with me. I don't think I could have asked for a more thoughtful present. It's sure lasted longer than a bouquet of flowers!

My favorite "gift" was that my now husband asked me to be his girlfriend on Valentines Day 19 years ago. We were still in high school and had been friends for a while. He didn't seem interested in dating, but for me hanging out was great. 19 years ago this Valentine's day, he asked me to be his "girl". We have been together every since. He joined the Navy 17 years ago and we have gone through deployments, moves around the country, and lots together. He is the best "gift" I could have ever gotten, on Valentines Day or any other day for that matter.

For me, it was the vase of 5 yellow roses sent to me by my dear friend (at the time). He wanted to show me how much he cared about me, and I was clueless how deep those feelings went. Until that Valentines Day. It was a wonderful surprise, during a brutal mid-term week in college. I married him two years later, and it has been 19 years since he sent the roses. I still adore this man-- I am blessed without a doubt.

A stuffed monkey that I got from my husband back when we were dating. He came to pick me up (I'd only known him for two weeks) and when he opened the car door for me there was a huge monkey in the front seat holding a dozen roses. I somehow mentioned to him that I loved chimpanzees, and the monkey he got me was a huge gorilla, but I thought it was so sweet of him to try, and it was hilarious to me that he didn't know a chimpanzee from a gorilla!

I'm so glad I married that monkey boy! :)
