Hi! I'm excited to share a new quilt top with you. I sewed blocks into the wee hours of the weekend, and yesterday started sewing the top up with my morning coffee. I really wanted to see this quilt top come together!
Sewing with linen....it's kinda squirrelly and needs lots of pins. As the weave is larger than the cottons we typically use, it has a tendency to not hold it's shape.
I carefully pressed and blocked each piece as I added it to the block, to keep things as square as possible. This quilt top is not perfect, cutting was a challenge as well since it was 60" wide and my longest ruler is 24". But the
fluidity that it adds, and the
heft are really nice. It is slightly heavier than my quilting cottons - but I like it a lot!
I know that there are a few
linens being marketed to quilters, but I've not had a chance to work with these yet. I'd love to, and compare - eventually :) I love how the colors pop in these pictures!
My quilt measures 60x72 inches and I have a pattern in the works!
I need a little help naming this quilt...how about, if I pick the name that you suggest, you win a copy of the pattern when it's ready!?
Here's my kiddos- they were enjoying an evening swim, their cool down after dinner :) They keep me on my toes!

Oooh great quilt top! How about "Bobsleigh" because they look like little sleighs with a kid at each end, on a vast snowy landscape. It looks to me like a really fun weekend when all the kids are out and coming down a snowy hill on their sleighs in droves.
Very nice quilt design! It reminds of those litmus papers we used in high school to test if something was acidic or alkaline. So, I suggest "Litmus Test" for a name.

It is beautiful! Is the entire top linen? Love it. Thank you for the link back. The Essex is wonderful to work with and washes up beautifully! Hope you will try it! I don't know but the only thing that keeps popping into my head for a name is PEZ. It just reminds me of the PEZ candies, I don't know why. Or maybe See Saw, they do kind of look like See Saws don't they? Your kids look like they are having too much fun!
Gumsticks. It reminds me of the stiped gum we used to get and we would take it all out of the package.

What a neat top, so fresh and bright! Thank you for the review on working with linens too, you know I always appreciate tool-tips! I have two name suggestions that spring to mind: Bar None, and Instamatic (others perceive this pattern as evocative too, I think).
Great quilt! For some reason, I think of bandaids! Could be because my granddaughter is always wanting one - but that's what comes to mind - pop art bandaids! I've got a stash of Irish linens from my grandmother that I may have to look at for a quilt like this - thanks for the inspiration!

Love this! How about "Balance" or "balance beams"? Or maybe "Double dipped"?
Pretty! Love those colors popping off this quilt top. Each block reminds me of an hourglass or a carpenter's level.
Awesome Amy! As soon as I saw it I thought about those lick-em-sticks we had as kids where you licked the end and dipped it into the sugar. Good Times! So I would call it Fun Dip :)
I was going to say Pez, but I see Jackie beat me to it! It definitely needs to be something candy-inspired. Melissa's suggestion of Fun Dip is awesome too.
Oh how pretty. Love the bright colors in that quilt. I immediately thought of the name "Block to Block" because it has such bright blocks of colors from one to the next.
You sound like you had the energy to finish that quilt top as I had this morning. I was up doing machine embroidery at 4am today. VERY unheard of for me. LOL
It's so pretty and almost calming! I instantly thought of Teeter Totters when I saw it!
I think this is one of the greatest modern quilt designs I've seen in a while! congratulations on a fantastic quilt Amy. I'm terrible at naming quilts...I like Dorey's "Litmus Test" a lot.

This is a such a beautiful quilt! It reminds me of sherbet "Push Up Pops", so that's what I would name it! :)

Your quilt is awesome - I think it should be called "Lipsticks".
How bout floating rectangles? Or floating boxes? It looks like the rectanges are suspended in space...No matter what you name it, it is beautiful!!!
I know what you mean about linen...it is a lovely dress fabric; must try it in a quilt. I know that there left-overs in my stash somewhere from all the dresses! Your quilt is lovely and kooooool! lol...The kids look equally koooool! So, so cute!

Lovely!! The essex cottons are a dream to work with. I did a quilting bee where they were sent and it was just so nice and easy to sew with.
I would name it Dip stick.
Everything matches so perfectly. You do such neat work.
I am loving some of these name suggestions and am not even surprised that someone beat me to "Litmus". I would also suggest "Majorie Dawe" as an homage to that random nursery rhyme... See-saw Marjorie Dawe... because the blocks look a little like seesaws to me.

Love it Amy! Great job, even with all the linen challenges!! I think I would call it "Road Block" or "Traffic Jam", it reminds me of the paint between lanes of traffic on the roads. I think this would make a great baby boy quilt scaled down too!!

Beautiful quilt, Amy. I think I'd call it "Simply Summer" because linen always makes me think of summer and so does this quilt because it is simple, cool looking and perfect for summer.
Ooh linen, scary! Love your quilt though, it looks as if you've got the fabric mastered (or mistressed!) I immediately thought of "Cup Half Full" - you know the optimist v the pessimist with the cup half empty?

Litmus paper was the first thing I thought of when I read you were looking for a name. So I'm submitting Color blocks as a name as that was the next thing to pop out at me. A beautiful quilt.
This is weird, but for some reason it makes me think of an at-home pregnancy test. Or those slips of paper you use to test the pool chemicals. Litmus I think it is?
Don't hate me, but the name that pops into my head is Candy Cigarettes. Not a real option, I know.
Maybe something more along the lines of Candy Dips.

I think it looks like flags of the world, from the side. So, do you think if you had starched the heck out of the linen, would that have made it more stable? I haven't worked with linen yet, but I hear it gets softer with washing (it sure does with linen yarn). So you'd want to wash it anyway, why not starch it like crazy and take command?
Hour Glass: It reminds me of hourglasses(minus the narrowing center)with sand still at the top and some in the bottom...like those timers in games! It's a great design!
It's beautiful! And so is your family! I thought of Litmus Strips, too, but it also reminds me of those popsicles that have three flavors on one stick... whatever those are called, I haven't had my coffee yet and!

I would include "linen" in it somewhere. How about "Line-en"? I like the seesaw suggestion too. Since it's made of Linen, how about "iWrinkle?" :D Or "A wrinkle in time?" :D

You know the kid's game, "Twister"? Well, this reminds me of it, only not with circles....so something like,
"Untwisted Twister" , or "Twister Untwisted"....
My silly suggestion is:
"Flags of Countries Unknown"
Because the quilt looks like those simple flags of those countries you have never heard and have no clue where they are! It is really nice though, I like it a lot! I just sewed some linen clutches and found it aggravating to work with!

Amy, this is a FABULOUS quilt! It reminds me of the paint sticks that you stir the paint with. What a colorful house that would be, eh? So my name is Paint Sticks. LOVE it, girl! My new favorite quilt!
I reckon they look like old-fashioned strips of photo negatives! So maybe a name like Slide-show" or something similar.
It's wonderful! I thought of balance when i looked at it. But something like "Off Balance" doesn't seem quite right...Perfect Balance? Or you could name it after my son Ethan who has amazing balance and likes to spend time walking along the fence. :)

I REALLY like this quilt. The symmetry is really appealing to me. Nice work! It reminds me of the canisters at the bank drive-thru, so how about that: "canisters". Or better yet, "Fill me up" as in fill me up with cash, or more philosophically fill me up with happiness, love, whatever you want...?

Love the quilt! Not so good at giving Quilts names. Nothing I thought up sounded better than anyone elses ideas. That being said, I will second PEZ. Good luck choosing :o).

Love this quilt! I had never thought of using linen. It reminds me of "City Traffic". Cars all lined up wating for the light to change.
I love the colors! They remind me of two completely different things: 1. An old-fashioned "switchboard." I guess the colors make me imagine all of the lights lighting up and keeping the operators busy! Kind of a funny name for a modern quilt... Switchboard.
2. It also reminds me of that old electronic game "Simon." So maybe "Simon Says"?
Regardless, the quilt is gorgeous! And I will be on vacation during your first challenge, but I started a quilt during Christmas break and it's finally going on the long arm this week! Woo-hoo!
