Just my opinion here, but skip Running with Scissors. I found it extremely upsetting. I realize it is a true story, but I couldn't take it.
I did not see Same Kind of Different as Me on your list. It is a great book.

My two favorite books!
Have you read any other Francine Rivers books besides Redeeming Love? She has a great trilogy called "Mark of the LIon" - the first book is "A Voice in the WInd" - they are really good. Also Liz Curtis Higgs has an excellent series - first one is called "Thorn in my Heart" - they are SO good!
Ok - It would appear that I'm the only GUY commenting on this stream, but hopefully that's ok :) I just wanted to say - I've been reading "The Neverending Story" by Michael Ende and it's awesome! If you've seen the movie, fine - but you must read the book. It's much richer!

I second many of these {the ones I've read!} Particularly Outlander - the whole series. And The Book Thief was a wonderfully surprising treat!

I loved The Life of Pi, and Listening is an Act of Love. Right now I'm reading The Zookeeper's Wife, and it's a good one.
I highly recommend "Through Violet Eyes". Couldn't put it down and neither could my husband.

Thanks for this great list Amy! I just joined my local library, because my book shelves runneth over, so I figured perhaps I should start borrowing them from the library instead of buying more. The problem is, where to start, sooooo many books in the library. I'll take your list with me next time I go.
My suggestion for your list is "Eat, Pray, Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert. I LOVED this book and it now ranks as one of my all time favourites!

The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls...it is a memoir of her life with very eccentric wandering parents...it is an amazing story and she has a new one out called Half Broke Horses: A True Life Novel about her maternal grandmother and it looks to be just has good...I bought it for my daughter for xmas and I am just dying to read it but I'll wait until she does!:)

I have been reading for about 7 years non stop and I haven't read any of these and only heard of a few. I guess I need to update my reading list.
So which one are you going to try first? I HIGHLY recommend the Birth House. It was soooo good!
Maybe every time you start a new book, or finish one, you can let us know what you thought of it. We could do a read along, so to speak!
Great list Amy, and I'm please my suggestions made it here! I forgot to mention 'The Piano Teacher' - gret read. Would warn anyone reading The Lovely Bones to grab the tissues, very moving not one for anyone who may be grieving a lost one though.
wow...that's quite the list! I see that no one suggested My Sister's Keeper and The Secret Lives of Bees (the movie on this one was really good, so the book must be awesome!)

I'm going to check out some onyour list. I'm reading Twilight now and like you, I'm not into vampires, but it is OK - not don't want to put it down, but ok. ;-)

Okay, definitely scratch Edward Sawtelle and Running with Scissors. Definitely add My Sisters Keeper, actually all of Jodi Piccoult's books and The Glass Castle, what an amazing story and writer!
I'm going to love investigating these books for my Kindle, because most I've read and loved and others are new, *love* recommendations from people with common interests!
Boy, you've got a great list there! I think almost everyone in our bookgroup threw Running with Scissors against the wall -- I didn't finish it, but everyone seemed to hate it!

Hmm, have you read The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini? I love that book. The movie pales in comparison, I couldn't put it down 'til I finished it. This coming from a person who normally does those horror novels :0) I think it's a real eye-opener for people about the Middle East and speaking up when you should. It was such an easy read as well.
