Blogger's Quilt Festival - Spring 2010

Welcome to the third Blogger's Quilt Festival!  I'm so glad that you are here - and I hope that you plan to enter a quilt in the Festival!  Everyone is welcome to participate, this is a relaxed festival with no judging, no gloves, and beverages are allowed, encouraged even!  :)

Many "Thank You's" go out to our sponsors!  They have been fun and gracious to work with in the weeks leading up to today.  And the prizes they are offering are so generous!  Be sure to visit each of the shops as you enjoy the show.  They each have a button to the right, and I have a list of prizes below the entries.

I have been so thankful to have my laptop while getting the details together this time around and I cannot wait to sit on the couch and take in all the inspiration!  I hope you have a comfy seat too - this may take a while.

While you are blog hopping - let me know if you see a quilter you would like to see featured on my blog.  I plan to continue the Friday features after the festival and always need more nominations!

Are you ready!?

To Participate : :
1 - Write a new post (old posts will be deleted).  Share one quilt, and it's story.  Why you made it, why it is special to you, what you learned about quilting/yourself while making it.  The quilt doesn't have to be brand new, never seen before on you blog - show what you like!

2 - In your post link back to the festival (posts without a link will also be deleted).  You can do this with a button, just copy and paste the code into your post, if all else fails.

3 - Share a link to your post, in the mr linky - be sure to post to that specific post please.  Right click on your post title, to copy link address, then paste it in the linky.

4 - Leave me a comment to be entered into giveaways.  Maybe you can tell me approximately how many quilts you have made so far.  Or if you finished a quilt just for the Festival.  Or how many quilts you have on your to do list.  It's fun to learn something about you as I read all the comments :)

5 - Visit all the other quilters sharing their quilts and be inspired!

6 - If you are on flickr, consider adding your entry to the Group Pool, it's great to see all the quilts in the gallery.

Please do not link up if you are not posting a specific quilt, also linking to etsy/ebay shops is not allowed. I reserve the right to delete links that are not within the guidelines above. Thanks!

If you happen to add an incorrect or dead link, please look for the smiley face next to your name/link and click on it, follow the instructions to delete the link and then post the correct link.  If all else fails - email me :)

The Fabulous Sponsors --

**But wait -- there's more!**

Thank you all for making this event a huge success!
-----

New button code -

this links back to this post instead of the info page.  Use it where ever you like!

-----
The Festival will be accepting links through next Friday, the 28th.  After that the linky will be closed and the links made permanent on this post.  Giveaway winners will be announced the following day.

I think that's everything!  I hope you enjoy the show :)

Amy

Amy, Thanks for doing this! I did it backwards...left the comment and then posted....but now it's done right. I am very fond of the little quilt that I shared. I love making small wall quilts and especially enjoy working by hand. If I count the tiny dollhouse baby quilts that I've made, the number is about 75. I enjoy sharing them at local quilt guilds and in programs for church women's groups. :-)

Just posted to my second blog-an antique inspired quilt I made for the HMQS charity fundraiser. I made 1 quilt and my sister made 2 and we raised about $300.00

Hi Amy, Thanks for organizing this great show. I'm not posting anything - no blog, new computer, never posted on flickr, shy, etc. But I am really enjoying looking at what other people have posted and I'm trying to comment on them all. I haven't finished any full size quilts on my own yet although I've got six on the go right now. I've worked with some quilting friends to make quilts to give away for co-workers, made lots of baby quilts and other things like bags, wallhangings and table runners. The first quilt I ever started was the year I was married (33 years ago). It was an applique quilt and thinking back on it the colours were ghastly - green on green, solid fabrics. Anyway it burnt when our home burned about six months after we were married. It was about two thirds done. I didn't quilt again until about five years ago. Thanks for a chance to win one (or more :)) of those fabulous prizes.

Awesome Amy!! Thank-you so much for doing this. This is my first ever quilt festival - either online or real-life - how fun! I'm very new to quilting, just started this year and have made about 4 quilts so far and 3 doll quilts on top of that. It's very addicting - i think you could safely say i'm not giving up this sport! :)

Angela S said...

What a wondeful group of posts and giveaways. I'm working on my first quilt now, a hand pieced grandmother's flower garden using the paper piecing method and 30's reproductions...did I mention yet that it is king sized? Yeah I've got 61 of the 80 "flowers" done and am starting on the pathway. For a first project I figure it is pretty big so am not feeling bad that it has gotten this far in about 8 months. I will have it done before the end of the year so I'm excited!

I browsed through so many of the quilts from last year that I decided to take up quilting!! 6 quilts and one year later, I finally got to participate:)

Thanks for doing the Festival again, it´s so fun!

I don´t really know how many quilts I´ve done, but approximatly around 30, and the pile of UFO´s is about 15 tops :) It seems like ideas of new projects must be realized before endings of the old ones :)

This is my first time participating in this Festival and how much fun this is! I've completed 140 quilts (of various sizes ... some small, some VERY LARGE) and probably have half as many on my To Do list. :-) I love sewing, quilting ... any creative sort of needlework ... it feeds my soul and makes me happy. (which, in turn, makes me a happy wife and mother. :-) )

Denise said...

Hi Amy, thanks for hosting! Since the first of the year I have made 5 quilts, in my lifetime I am not sure how many; I stopped quilting when the kids were really little and life was to crazy, but now that they are a bit older (and learning to sew themselves)I have jumped back into quilting with both feet! So many WIP going thru my head that I have listed them on my blog so I can keep track.

Thank you for hosting this festival. It will be cool to look through everyone's entries.

This is a wonderful and fun event! I'm thrilled to enter a quilt into the festival. I'm not sure how many quilts I've made to date, it's really about the process for me, not the quantity. I've been quilting for about 5 years and am always inspired by my fellow quilters from the online quilting community.

Well imagine my lucky timing. I'm sewing binding on a quilt tonight/this weekend and will be able to write a post in time to make your deadline :).

This will be my 4th quilt, the 2nd that is larger than a twin size quilt.

I've got fabric sitting for 4 quilts which I hope to get to soon. Right now I seem to have a one year turn around on quilts (see my timing is very lucky, LOL) ... I'd like to speed that up by a few months ;).

Thanks so much ... I can't wait to grab an iced tea and click through all the inspiration!!

Hi there, thanks for organising this Blogger's Quilt Festival. I am a first time entry because I am very new to blogging. I have been working with textiles for the last 30 years but patch working for about 10 or so. I think I have made about 30 quilts and they are scattered all over my house. The hubby and kids roll themselves up in them over the winter and they are in every room of the house. Patch working is my refuge and I am totally addicted to buying more fabric and making new things. I have a stack of my husband's old shirts ready to be made into something - possibly squares made from triangles so the lines on the fabric nearly match up or the Indigo Points quilt from Fassett's latest book. There are usually a few things on the go at the same time. I only get weekends to really get stuck into my sewing and every week a new idea pops into my head. Some get made and some don't. It's all fun.

Yay! I'm in! :) I'm thinking of making my next project a quilt for Reagan's bed (a full/queen). Nothing like jumping in with both feet huh? :D Have you ever used a duvet cover, added batting in between and then quilted it?? I found an awesome duvet cover and the thought crossed my mind. Not sure how it would work though....
Thanks for working so hard to bring the festival to fruition. May God bless you tenfold (and give you health and rest!).

This is a great way to see all the great work everyone is doing. I've been piecing quilt for over 20 years and learning new and different things every step of the way. My aunt inspired and challenged me to find a better way of doing things other than hand piecing. I taught her to piece a log cabin by machine in 1988. I've since made around 40 log cabins.
I made my first feathered star about a month ago and am experimenting with that. Quilting is exciting and quilters motivating!

Laurel H. said...

It is hard to say how many quilts I have sewn, because I've done very simple ones--possibly over a hundred of them--and given them away to charity. I'm looking in my flickr set, and I see about 27; I've given away 18 of those, and I just finished one, and one's not counted, so there are maybe 11 in the house. (Wow, that many? They're in many different places...)

I actually recently wrote a "I'd love to make this quilt" list, and I think there are {gulp} at least a dozen on there!

Thanks for doing this, Amy. It pushes me to keep moving forward in my quilting, and to create with an eye for display (so that means stepping up my level of craftsmanship!).

(By the way, you don't have to enter me in the drawings; I've won a couple of things recently, and I'd like to "share the love...")

Amy, this is such a great idea of yours. Thanks for doing it for us. It's so great to get inspired by others' wonderful work. I've made about 50 quilts since I started quilting in 2001. I have more than 30 fabric collections ready to be made into quilts, but I haven't finalized the patterns I will use for many of them. That's my hangup. I modify all my quilt patterns. They sort of evolve as I make them most of the time. I love the creative process that produces a quilt, but my favorite part is putting the fabrics together.

WOW, this is fun, I am a vintage fabric kinda girl so most of my quits are older quilts that are family quilts that I have "Saved" and proudly show off to anyone who will look at them. I do quilt and I have probably made about 10-20 quilts, started when our Girls were little, went thru quite a few on their beds, LOL. Now I am on a vintage linens kick so working on quilts made of recycled sheets and pillowcases, being green and making beautiful quilts at the same time. So go check out my blog, I am putting up one of my favorie quilts, so enjoy looking. THANKS FOR HOSTING THIS. I am going to try to hook up with your button, but am not all that savy so hopefully it works.

Thank you so much for organizing this festival. I really love this idea. The spring festival last year, was kind of a motivation for me to start my own blog. I also had just started quilting, so it feels like a significant milestone for me. I didn't finish a quilt specifically for the festival this time, but I had this past fall. I have something like 6 quilts in the queue. I hope to have at least 3 to choose from for the fall. Thanks again, this is a lot of fun.

I can't wait to check out all the quilts! I currently have three quilts in progress. They are waiting for me to finish some dresses for my girls for a wedding we are going to in June. I know that I made about 16 quilts last year, I have no idea of a lifetime number, but now that you mention it, I want to start keeping track.

I just posted my link...this is the first time I've joined, so I'm psyched! Have sewed forever, but never was interested in quilting until a little over a year ago...now, I think of nothing else except what I'm working on, what I want to work on, what I should be working on...well, you get the idea. ADDICTED!!! Okay, I'm off to go visit some blogs! Thank you for doing this, Amy...it is great fun!

This is my first year entering, so thanks for doing this! I entered my "quilt of insanity" hexagon quilt.
I've made a dozen or so quilts, some rag quilts, some more involved, but it's always something that I enjoy. I have two quilts in the works. One I am hand quilting right now, and another I just got the fabric for and I'm excited to get going on it.

Ooops! I almost forgot to leave a comment here! Here's something about me and my quilting: I'm very good at starting and finishing quilt tops, which then sit in a nice, neatly folded pile. I'm too afraid to go count them, but 8 is a good guess right now! Thanks for hosting the Festival and thanks to the sponsors!

Jill said...

This is the first time I've ever entered an online quilt festival! HOW FUN!!! The quilt I entered was the 3rd one I've ever made and I just finished a fourth with 3 more in the works. I love getting ideas from other quilters. Thank you again for doing such a fun online festival!!!!

Thanks for offering this WONDERFUL Festival! I do appreciate all your hard work. You asked for some information about me ... how about "I ordered my new sewing machine today?" I'm getting a Janome Horizon - that machine just hit the shops, and it seems to be perfect ;-))

Thanks Amy for organizing this! This is going to be so fun!

I have about 12 projects in the works, but I really am trying SO hard to get that down to just 3, 4 or 5. I would be so happy with that.

Hi Amy! Thanks for doing this, it's so much fun. Although I have quite a few quilts I plan to make right now, I'm working on two baby quilts, for two old friends who just had babies about the same time I had my baby this year. It is so much fun to commemorate such a special event with a quilt. Thanks again!

I love your quilt festivals!
I am becoming a more active quilter, and I have a website in development that will be devoted to quilting ... hoping to have it up soon. For now, I'm sharing my personal blog (which has turned into more of a crafty-quilt blog, when I remember to update it).
I have finished 5 quilts since the new year, and have one in progress. I find so much inspiration in the quilt-blog community and I can't wait to browse through all of the entries.
