Dresden Plates Update!

Just popping in to show you where I've gone with the Dresden Plates!  They are laid on top of one another so far - I'm hand stitching them in place, it's just like stitching a binding in place.
I hope you don't get tired of seeing this project...I'm really happy to be making it for my DQS partner :)

Are you working on a project for a friend?

Dresden Plates

I really thought I needed to get a few more things done today, before sewing up these plates....but the piles were calling to me.  I'll get to the other stuff here in a few minutes :)

What do you think?

I LOVE them, but I can't decide which center plate to use.  I have time though, I next need to figure out what my background will be, and if I want to piece it.

Hope you are having a productive day!

Started!

In the comments on my last post, I was challenged!
In between, "mom" responsibilities, I cut and sewed more than enough dresden plates!  Not that I'm afraid of new york beauties, I just couldn't get excited for this project about them....these I'm excited about.

So Lindsay...What have you been working on?

I have a few things on the household to do list, hopefully I can resist this pile until later :)

Starting

I have a to do list, including a throw quilt, twin quilt and doll quilt...the trouble seems to be starting! (I have all the fabric, I've been focused on the quilt-along so far)  So today I'm going to start on the doll quilt :)  I had been thinking new york beauties, but I'm chickening out - I'm going to make some dresden plated with these Happy fabrics!
Keep me accountable - okay!?  I need to share some progress here really soon, so I can work on the rest of the list.
Blessings,
Amy

Doll Quilt Swap 9 Inspiration!

I'm excited to be in the next round of Doll Quilt Swaps on Flickr!  This is a great swap and so much fun to participate in.  Last weekend I learned that I was included, and this next weekend we should be getting partner information.  This swap is secret, which makes it even more fun - you never know where your quilt is coming from, or which one in the pool will be yours!

With that in mind, I made a mosaic to narrow down some of my favorites, and include some older ones, for my partner :)

1. rectangles with attitude, 2. Randomwork embroidery, 3. Poppy, 4. Aunt Millie's Block Two, 5. 1/6 of a zipper quilt, 6. Aunt Millie's Garden - Block 6, 7. Bricolage &Butter Bee - March, 8. DQS#8 from Isabel., 9. Doll Quilt Rec'd by TagEButt, 10. "285", 11. YIP 365.184:: Zen squares pillow, 12. Wedges!, 13. triptych, 14. Stained Glass Quilt, 15. Aunt Millie's Block One

Created with fd's Flickr Toys

Some of these I like for the pattern, others the colors, prints and solids are welcome, easy to intricate!  Really, I'm very easy to please :)  So, dear partner, just have fun creating!

I can't wait to start stalking my partner!!

Doll Quilt Received!

I've had the best round with Doll Quilt Swap! I love making little quilts for people and of course the payoff is a new quilt for me. For those that don't know, DQS is a secret swap, you never know who is sending a quilt your way! The fun is watching all the beautiful quilts added to the pool over the course of the 2 months. Some finish fast and others are still sewing at the deadline, so there is always something new to see! I love to leave comments as adorable quilts are posted, but rarely allow myself to believe that it could be for me.

Imagine my surprise yesterday when I opened the mailbox and found a package from Australia, containing this gem --

Doll Quilt Swap Received!!

Nicole of Craftapalooza, has been stalking around here getting to know me, and made this just for me! Each petal of the flower is about 3/4" across, and the flowers are not quite 2 1/2" total. Adorable, little details in each flower too! And this is something that I have yet to even try for myself. Joe thinks I'm a little strange carrying it around and running my hand over the flowers - they are just too beautiful!

+ a few extras :)

She included some great little extras too! Thanks again Nicole - I love it :) Just what I needed yesterday too - I was going on little sleep and feeling a bit down after spending the afternoon cleaning. Thankfully Emmalie has been 24+ hours without incident and at kindergarten this morning!!

Blessings -
Amy

Sew-n-Tell

I've been working to finish up my doll quilt all week. It needs to get in the mail Monday! But I think I will admire it until then :)

Flowers for . . .
I've titled this quilt "Flowers for . . . " I will have to update you with who the flowers are for once it is received. Now I just need to wait and see what arrives in my mailbox! That's the best part! Getting a quilt just for you that you had no part in creating :)

Flowers for . . . Detail
Here's a detail shot - I added a few beads to give the flowers in the center some sparkle, and hand-quilted the entire thing. I don't know how some of you only hand-quilt, my fingers hurt!

If you have something to sew-n-tell head over to Amy's blog and link up!

Have a great weekend~

Getting There

Hi there! Just a quick post to check in with all of you. This has been one of those weeks - you know the kind. When nothing is normal, and finding motivation is a challenge. Little Sophia seems to have a flu bug, and is currently asleep on the couch. I'm praying that it doesn't spread - say a little prayer for me too - k?

Yesterday I finished up my DQS7 quilt top - I really like it! Now to decide how to quilt.

Also from the list, the sample bag is half complete, and I'm half way around Sophia's quilt binding. I think I will go sit for a bit more with it now.

Many blessings to you today ~

Doll Quilt Swap 6

So I peeled myself away from the computer for most of the day and managed to get some quilting taken care of. Feels good too!

DQS6 - Complete!

For DQS, the partners are secret - it's fun as you never know who or where your quilt is coming from. I got some ideas from their favorites and slowly developed my plan. I love the end result!

DQS6 - Complete!

I also finished a quilt for the STUD swap I signed up for this month - but need to wait to share it :) Next up - my swap blocks! I've drafted my plans, I just need to find a couple of quiet hours.

Blessings ~

DQS6 Sneak Peek

DQS6 peak

This week of Spring Break has been great! No schedule, except for Owen's naps - don't want to mess that up :) We started the week with sunshine, however yesterday and today have been WINDY and rainy. Just as well, the colds have been going around with the kiddos - Owen and Emmalie are really congested, and Sophia still has a cough from last weeks ear infection. Just the way this month has gone! I'm so thankful that they are healthy otherwise.

I took all the kids to the dentist this morning - not to bad really! Ella and Em got the full cleaning treatment, while Sophia and Owen sat/laid on my lap while they got checked out. So now Owen is down for a late nap, and I am doing my best to take advantage of this "free time"! I had rented a flick for the girls last night knowing that it was going to be icky out :)

That's where these stacks of fabrics come in! Doll Quilt Swap 6 is in full swing - lots of creative people with beautiful quilts. I'm drooling over each new set of pictures posted.

I've gotten started, but without our usual schedule, it's a little more challenging to sit and create. I read somewhere about a mom getting up at 6 am to create - I can't remember where, it was just last night. . . I do love to create, but would much rather stay up until 2 in the morning than wake early :) But Joe's been making fun of me for staying up late, and I do need a bit more sleep - oh well! It all gets done eventually :)

DQS6 peak

I've had fun spiffing up this blog too! I would love to create a new banner, but haven't come up with anything that I like better than what I already have . . . so not yet - but don't be surprised when I figure it out!

Also - I was linked too from OnePrettyThing (Thanks again Rachel!) - Welcome everyone coming over! I hope you are inspired and encouraged as you browse around :)

Blessings to you ~ Amy

Doll Quilt Swap 6

This last week I stumbled on to John's announcement that DQS was taking sign-ups for the next round! I quickly made way over to flickr to get in on the action. Having done a few swaps in the recent months I was hoping to get in with DQS as they always seem to have beautiful doll quilts for each other. There is no theme, but it is a secret, so you have to "stalk" your partner without them know you are creating for them - fun!

Here's a little inspiration that I found on flickr . . . all the flowers and birds . . . pretty sure I'm ready for spring to be here :) We still have piles of snow, with a north facing home, it sticks around longer even though it has been warm (around 45) lately.
